In a SHTF there is a good chance you won’t know what is going on. Human intelligence is some of the best.

Even small local papers are crap now :-/ or at least, where I've lived they are... Edit: by crap I mean heavily b i a s e d and supportive of the uh-jenn-duh...and they focus on stupid meaningless drivel, such as high school sports and whatnot.

Well, thank goodness for that. I've seen bogus news articles going back to the 1800's. Here's a weird one-find the original article about the Monongahela Monster.

I have TMobil, and lost connection with my phone for about an hour yesterday. I do home care and let my patient watch her programs, Bonanza, My Three Sons etc….she was so sad! So was I! She’s 81 and enjoys those so much. I pulled out a deck of cards and we went fishing..🤣😀♥️

They are getting people used to it being out now so that they won't assume anything bad is happening. They'll not be alerted unless it's face to face and that will face a lot of disbelief. It's the old , make the dog bark until they tell the dog to shut up, or set off the alarm repeatedly until they turn it off and then rob the place act. Glad you brought it up. Good to have reminders

Remove the communications, and the element of surprise becomes infinitely more effective. I believe you are totally correct that communications will be the first casualty and the rest gets clipped from behind immediately following. No way to be standing at the ready if you have no heads-up what's coming your way.

Might I suggest that more people explore their options with HAM radio? It is a ground level resource with large numbers of participants. Equipment costs can be downright reasonable, and you can go as far as you want with it. Something to consider...

I remember when Phantom Menace came out. I was maybe 13 or so (quite sheltered) and thought it was smart of them to jam the communications. I know a lot of people didn't like the prequels, and many still don't, but I always liked them. Looking back, boy oh boy the foreshadowing (aka predictive programming)......

I am not someone who’s connected at the hip to my phone. But a couple months ago I was without my phone for just a few days and with having my internet connection also coming through my phone I was internetless. I thought no big deal. But wow did I find out just how hard it is to accomplish things without internet now that I no longer have a phone book, newspapers, maps, etc. I guess it’s along the same lines as shutting off your electricity for a week to see if you are as prepared as you think you are for a grid down. Or use only stored water for a week if you think you have plenty stored. The idea of surviving a SHTF is much easier than the actuality.

Dollar tree sells telephone directories. Put names, addresses, telephone numbers, email acct in them for anyone (not just family and friends). Include repairman for house, plumbing, car, doctors, dentists, schools,... Also get the names and addresses, internet names, email addresses etc of the sites that you watch on you tube, IG,etc. It'll be there at your fingertips. I've also included names, addresses, phone numbers account numbers of monthly bills too. If system is down electronically, mail service or being able to drop off PMT physically might be available.

P.s. for maps, since we are in summer months, get a hold of tourist dept of states and let them know you're visiting and would like info and maps. Even if there's a fee, you have a physical map of area You're interested in.

You can laminate your maps at home using clear contact paper. Any notations you want to be permanent, write on before the contact paper. Anything you want to be temporary, write on after w/grease pencils, erasable marker.

It might take a few days for the panic to set in, but once the power goes off and no one knows when or if it'll come back on things will start to get interesting. I suspect they'd have to impose martial law in a situation like that because the major cities would explode.

Really good advice. I'm going to share that with my family, because there are ways to gather information face-to-face, or through locally produced newsletters, etc., that provide a way to work around communication disruptions that might happen if we are attacked.

Went to ATM at bank location to withdraw. Invalid Pin. Ok. Tried ATM at a chain store. Invalid PIN. Wife tried her card (same bank, completely separate account). Invalid PIN. Woman behind could not make transactions; didn't ask what bank she used. Return to bank, more Invalid. Teller insists it's a problem on our end. Make withdrawal at teller window. Help desk says, "I see no problems". No problems, but neither accounts can be accessed at ATM. Okay...

I prefer word of mouth myself, especially face to face. It's odd, though, how many people get annoyed when I ask for suggestions or recommendations. You'd think in a world where people can't get enough of spouting their opinions on every little thing, they wouldn't say in an irritated voice to "just look it up." I'd asked my 69-year-old neighbor his favorite way to cook rabbit the other day and he told me to go online. SMH. This happens to me all the time. And maybe it's them trying to get me to do things for myself (if they knew me, they'd know I've spent my whole life doing just that...including something as simple as tying my shoes...no one taught me), but for Pete's sake...is it really so much to ask for your opinion/account of experience and 2 minutes of your time?? Especially when no one was born knowing anything so at some point, they had questions too... Rant over. Sorry lol But this is a big part of why I'm subbed here. You are calm and kind in your approach to teaching people how to do things. I appreciate it. PS- in case anyone is wondering, I made half the rabbit (not half OF A rabbit...there was 1.5-2 in the bag I had) in the slow cooker with some veggies and homemade gravy and the other half got deep fried. Delicious both ways 😊

@TUKByV Nope. No it wasn't. Not the first time, either. I suspect it's largely due to the fact that I'm a "Yank" "city slicker" who came here with my "big industrial dollars." Yes, he really used all those words......Except for the facts that 1: we moved here from semi-rural Upper Midwest (NOT the "Rust Belt" part, mind you) due to aging in-laws who moved down here almost 10 years ago 2: my husband makes just under the "average" income for the US 3: we have made it abundantly clear we aren't here to screw anything up, and we keep it respectful (not nosey, not loud, not rude, etc). Southern hospitality, my azz. Oh well. Bless his pea pickin heart.

I'm telling you, this is WHY I live the way I do: as dropped out as possible and ready to be cut-off completely. My husband had to tell me there was a war in Israel months ago. we don't have TV, I don't read newspapers, I have never had a cell phone, I had NO idea there was a cellular interruption. I'm watching this 2 weeks after you posted it. My husband does watch news on internet and keeps up, but I never have any idea at all what's going on. Guess what? When it happens, I'll hear about it, from people. Meantime, I'm going to keep needing less and less from the world so it will be easy to have nothing and be fine. People are trapped by all these conveniences and push-button world and smart things, tech, and too much information, too fast, and ALL the time. That's no way to live. They'll kill you all with the cortisol rushes you get every time you hear "something important" that gets your nervous system on alert again and again and again all day long, every day. Throw out the stupid phones. You'll be happier and healthier.

Great vid and thank you for the info. Have heard that it might be well advised to set up meeting places on certain days/times/certain locations to check on family, etc, bring info, pertinent supplies if needed to exchange. Havent got wlkie talkies, ham radios,cb radios and dont know how effective those would be in certain scenarios. What are thoughts or effectiveness of certain systems? Yes, there will probably be chaos or possibly m. Law so caution is advisable no matter what. God bless you and everyone..
