The trick I show you in here on how to EASILY get the oil pump drive shaft to line up with the distributor is credited to ‪@Myvintageiron7512‬ one of my all-time favorite channels that I've been watching for years. Check him out and see for yourself what a great guy and great channel he has going on.
Ok, so there is nothing more frustrating than trying to set a distributor down in the hole, only to find out that you are 180 degrees out, so in this video I do my best to show you the A Number One way I've always done it to not only avoid that, but how I correct it if I come across it. You can't go off of general information on this, because contrary to popular belief, Chevrolet pointed that rotor on that distributor in many different places depending on year, make, options and model in order to make enough room for you to "fine tune" it with the vacuum advance hanging off the side of it.
I'm showing you this on a Small Block Chevy (sbc) but you can use this on any make and model engine that uses the camshaft to drive the distributor.
Hope this helps you as much as it's helped me through the years and as always...... get out there and "Keep that Metal Hot".

The Chevys never bothered me. The hex drive for the oil pump on the Ford Windsor series engines drive me crazy. I takes me forever to line them up.

Hello there Allhailinternalcombustion good to see ya man! Yeah the sbf's can be a little tricky as well and for me my toes always curl just a little bit when I have to pull them. You get them almost our and you hear the dreaded "Thunk" in the oil pan because the drive shaft was stuck in the distributor until just now...... ug. And today I have to do this on that little "white" 302 Ford you see behind me in the video to plug that hole for storage as well. Mean time, I checked out your channel and you have some cool stuff going on there man. Keep up the good work.

You mean to tell me Chevrolet over complicated something that Ford didn't?? Say it ain't so! My dad showed me that trick with the oil drive rod decades ago. Made dropping the distributor in sooooooooo nice even on Fords. Good informative video!

I know.... Right! Yeah I done picked on Ford enough and figured it was time to pick on a Chevy a little. And Oh Boy, that distributor trick.... You Bet. I used to do Everything I could to avoid pulling a distributor because of that dad gum oil drive until I found out how to do it this way.

@5:56-- NO SIR THE ENGINE ROTATES COUNTER CLOCKWISE STANDING BEHIND THE DIZZY!!!! IT DOES NOT CHANGE ROTATION BASED ON WHERE YOU ARE STANDING!!!!
@BareRoseGarage
@BareRoseGarage Ай бұрын
As I said in the video and you can clearly see, I'm turning it Clockwise as you do on 99% of all of them. If it was a reverse marine engine or a Corvair I'd be turning it counterclockwise, and it would have a left hand threaded harmonic balancer bolt as well. I get what you are saying, but it's not what I am saying or showing in this.
