Primal Movements... we think of squats, running, climbing, lifting something up from the ground. But one of the movements our ancestors did way more than us was interact with the ground. Ground interaction can help mobility, core strength, awareness and develop a more confident, pain-free body. Whatever gets you close to the ground whether it's animal movement, natural movements, primal movements...will benefit your body immensely.

In Eastern cultures the ground is an essential part of the day, but in our own western culture it almost seems try to avoid the ground as much as possible. Well here are four reasons that Josh and Trevor believe we need to rethink our relationship with the ground that may just surprise you. Do you touch the ground daily? Do you take your shoes off and feel the earth? Consider integrating the ground in your daily life and let us know how it goes for yo. These are functional movements that we should all be doing... the forgotten primal movement.

Great video with a lot of unconventional wisdom and valuable tips. My favourite is the Turkish get up - but I also do a lot of yoga which gets me spending more time on the ground than I would otherwise. Lots of ideas now on how to optimise my life and work space to make it more ground friendly!

Dancing the Argentine Tango. The interaction is through the shoes and with our partner. Still, it's a great fun way to exercise our core strength to stay well-grounded while challenging our balance with interesting partner interactions. The primal movements that you promote help us to become highly functional dancers.

@@TheTamrock2007 I'm 59 almost 60 and it hurts, but I try. We have had to overcome levels of discomfort in various ways all our lives. Not everyone can work past discomfort. As a former Activity Director in a nursing home, exercise was my main activity. My program became so popular that I ended up visiting many homes in the county. Seeing first hand how much falls impact senior citizens is disturbing, it's also expensive, costing my state alone over 60 million dollars annually. ( hospital stay, family members taking time off work for care) so keeping the core strong and being acquainted with the ground is a must. Seeing seniors that were permanently disabled because they fell and couldn't move for hours is heartbreaking. Everyone should practice these moves in preparation for aging. Thanks for the awesome video!

I work with the geriatric population doing home health physical therapy. Most of the people I see are stiff, in pain, and unsafe. Just getting them reacquainted with functional movements and increasing body awareness does wonders for them. Then they start getting stronger and moving better and feeling less pain on a daily basis. It is wonderful to help people feel more empowered and be more independent simply by teaching them to move more.

I have been practicing a crawl using just my hands and feet keeping knees off the floor. It took me almost a year of just holding that pose to be able to "crawl" without hurting myself. One day, I just did it. Now I can go for about 30 seconds crawling through the house. I think I saw it on one of your videos. Doing the floor work to learn this has made a huge difference in my strength and pain levels.

Continuously amazed at how well you guys deliver these beautiful nuggets of movement. I'll admit, I started spending more time on the ground after your squat video months ago. Now I'm hooked on stretching while touching the ground or floor. Whether it be my wrists, knees, calves, etc, the more time I spend on the floor, the better I feel when I do these stretches or exercises. In fact, I started goofing around more at the climbing gym by doing shoulder roils and back falls in a controlled manner out of the blue. Having learned much of this years ago when I was a kid in martial arts, it all came back to me once I developed a more intimate relationship with the ground, pad, or floor. Kudos guys!

When my first kid was 18 months we moved to a fixer upper with hardly any furniture. We ate sitting on the floor and of course played on the floor. When my oldest was 2 year old, I got pregnant. There is so much truth and validity to this! I love your comment about something to the affect that the easier we can get up off the ground the longer we will live! It seem so logical! I spent 20 years thinking yoga was all I needed! But I was wrong! These stances are indeed commonly used in South-East Asia and a routine especially for Silat practitioners. For instance, you started with the Buaya stance (crocodile) and moved to Kucing stance (cat) to Kucing buka (open cat) stance (i.e., your "tactical get-up"). You just miss other stances there like Kuda-kuda (horse) you quickly go through after your tactical get-up or Harimau (tiger) or Kura-kura (turtle) when you get your back round on the ground... Anyway, very good stuff here!

I’ve been a fitness instructor for over 20 years. I’ve had a bad low back for many years (degenerative discs). I have learned to live with it. Broke a hip 10 years ago but healed quickly & have minimal issues from that. One is that whole side of my body seems to have shifted. It’s “off.” Example, in order to lift my right leg behind me properly, I cannot put the rules of balance into place the same as I do lifting the other leg. My feet / toes must be slightly pointing to the left & I have to tork my leg & twist my foot downward as I lift that leg. That said, I’ve noticed over the years I have about 3 things I must do in order to get up off the floor; whereas not too long ago I would always pop right up & I’d wait for my participants to rise. Watching your video makes me want to work harder on popping up off the ground or floor. Your rolls & evenly-distributed body strength are so fluid. This made me realize this is what I don’t have . Upper body & one side of my body are stronger & more capable than the other. This is so frustrating. Also, weak low back & the weak hip from the fracture propose the unbalanced strength/ abilities. I do notice when I do a lot of core strength exercises or Pilates, that I feel stronger all over. However, I have to be careful I do not finish incomplete. In other words, I need to be sure I work everything equally. Sometimes that means working my weak areas with a couple of more reps. Even though that’s anatomically incorrect, is it possible this can be correct for my imbalanced state? Thank you!!

What I love about strength side videos the most is there duality. These guys know how to show viewers instructions from a nice cozy modern home (which says to the more civilized of society that they're not cave men) while going out side and getting down to the nitty gritty with very important primitive movements and exercises (which speaks correctly to us more rugged and primitive types) who prefer less modern living and like to do things more natural and manual which is more effective in our environments. Awesome video guys. There needs to be two Xtra like buttons on this one as far as I'm concerned.👍👍👍 Keep up the good work!!!

I love this video! I can’t tell you how many people I tell, “You have to make friends with the floor or it will become your enemy and punch back.”

Brilliant, please can we broadcast this at my mother's nursing home whose staff constantly forced my mother to wear socks and shoes. Mind you, my mother grew up in India barefoot for 38 years of her life, and has late stage Parkinson's disease and based on my experience with her is far more stable when she is barefoot in her room. The nursing home looks at me like I am an alien b/c I always remove the socks and shoes

I am in looove with floor movements!! They have helped me become flexible, aware, stronger, and grounded. Crawling is my go to!!! But a nice 15-20 minutes flow is best!!!🧘🏽🙏

Very inspiring! I immediately placed my laptop onto my chair and watched the video while moving on the ground. I also want to add the push-up to the list. It might be a common exercise but it is also a way to interact with and get up from the ground and I highly prefer it over benchpress.

Hey! I want to say thank you for incredible stuff what you are doing. I have been following your videos for a month and recently subscribed for Guided program. I had lower back pain for 3 years after my baby was born and this is the first week when I wake up and can get from bed with no pain or stiffness in the lower back😊

I work with children so getting up from the ground is a must. Demonstrating how to do it without causing injury is a good idea. My body always aches after a day working with my kiddos.

Thank you love your videos. Since you asked my favorite on the ground movement is happy baby yoga pose with a lot of improvising side to side rolling and stretching. 65 years old and trying to keep mobile

IT'S more so a State of thinking. We just call it life! I have ten grand kids.. most under the age of teen, I'm big on ground Play with them. I've pushed it as a way of playing. Mist Young parents, have no clue as to this teaching. Glad to see it in a video, because that's how the new generation is learning. ✅🎯✌️🤠

Judo warmups, jujitsu and submission wrestling fundamental movements.. my comfort zone is in judo and assuming the uke role during fits and practice throws alerted me as to how kneejerk reflexively scared I was of being thrown, especially on the ogoshi hip throw.. one instructor assigned me specific drills to overcome the fear. For what its worth, randori put me in a position where I had a fragment of a moment to figure out I was about to lose position, take a fall and know which direction to go..there wasn't time to be afraid.
