The FREE Hondamatic CB400A Gets a Makeover #vintagemotorcycles #motorcyclerewind #cb400
Welcome back to Motorcycle Rewind! In today's episode, we're rolling up our sleeves to give our 1978 Honda CB400A Hondamatic-a classic we road-tripped all the way to Okechobee, Florida to snag-a total makeover. We're diving into everything from deep cleaning and polishing to a full-on tank swap. But here's the twist: we're tackling stubborn oxidation with Toon-Brite, a cleaner originally designed for pontoon boats! Curious about how it turned out? You won't want to miss this. Whether you're a vintage motorcycle aficionado, a DIY garage warrior, or just love a good road-trip-turned-restoration story, this episode has something for you. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments. Happy riding!

Yes it can. It is incredible how a little elbow grease can go a long way.

Definitely a road trip in order. I did it with mine long ago, so it can definitely be done. No need to go to Colorado or anything...believe me, after a hundred miles or so on that your butt will be begging you to take a break. Hands and feet will be tingling too.

Planning a local trip through Cajun Country. That way I get to share some of the great state of Louisiana. Right now it’s a 2 day trip a total of 400 miles.

Great video! I'm surprised the shaft seals aren't leaking oil like a seive. My wife's 78 leaked worse than a Harley.

Just a thought on the front brake - I used to swap the calliper with one from a Honda CB125TD which had a twin piston calliper that had much more stopping power than the single piston one that the N range has as default. It is a match for the mounting points so it a straight swap and works well with the standard master cylinder. Add braided hoses and you should be able to stand the bike on its nose if you have a decent front tyre (Metzlers were my favourite).

I love the amount of videos you're putting out there. It's impressive. Just don't burn yourself out. : ) It seems like your subs are going up, but I can't remember where you were when I first started watching. Either way we need to help you grow the channel. You should have more than 5.72 subs. (Now this comment can be a future marker as to how many subs you had on September 4th 2023) Every time I have something to do on my bike, wether it's changing tires or oil, or putting an electronic ignition on a bike, I think maybe I should shoot this on my phone and post it on KZfaq....but when I get started I don't feel like dealing with a camera and lighting and getting all the shots. One of these days I'll try it. I know from my own experience, even with simple jobs, sometimes seeing someone else do it in a video is more helpful than just reading the manual.

Thanks so much. I love the posting schedule I have now. It keeps me focused. Anything you want to don’t help grow the channel is greatly appreciated. With regards to you doing videos. I say do it. Just have to do it. I look forward to watching them. Thanks again for your continued support.

Yo - lemme axe you sumpmm. Does wet sanding /buffing ever work for plastic body parts? Mom had that bike in the 90s and loved it.

Just curious if you have any worries regarding the pressure washer vs. wheel bearings and electrical connections? Looking good so far. 👍

Haven’t had an issue so far. Thanks for asking. I like to go through all the plugs and add some dielectric grease to the plugs.

Just FYI, my wheel bearings are sealed....(78 model year)
@kenbowlus2995
@kenbowlus2995 11 ай бұрын
If yours are hermetically sealed, then that's great. They must make them differently nowadays. A good pressure washer can blow the grease out of normal sealed wheel bearings from the 1980s and '90s and strip the rubber right off of tire cords. @@goneapetuono

I had that disease, Sort of like the crazy cat lady but with motorcycles. You see them abandoned and un-loved and say to yourself "Just one more won't matter" Then you are known in the neighborhood as that crazy motorcycle guy.... Sadly there is no cure. You are destined to have dirt under your nails and the smell of stale gas follow you for life..
