George, one of the most hauntingly beautifiul things I've seen on the internet. Ever. This looked like a place that had also seen happy times....Christmas Eve's, pool parties, Sunday dinners, cold nights by the fireplace, Dodgers games on the TV, sunbathing on the lawn. The view from up there at night must have been breath-taking. THANKS for sharing a glimpse of another [forgotten] world, to folks like me, who woudn't otherwise get to enjoy this.

@@lyndareed563 No, the house at 10048 Cielo Drive was either completely bulldozed or modified to where it looks nothing like that now. The property now looks closer to the McMansion on the site where the murders took place. "Progress?" Search youtube for 10048 Cielo Drive and you can see real estate videos that show what's there now. Also, the houses weren't identical. You can find pictures that show both houses within the same frame. They are a lot a like, but some definite differences between the two beyond that the "Tate" house was larger.

She would have been a mega star if not robbed of the opportunity. Cielo Drive just speaks so much to me; the classic easy life of the stars, the view and the music you set to it George just adds to the imagery that I have in my head of that beautiful location, house and the star that lived in it.

If I were super wealthy, and I do mean in the upper 3% wealthy, I would buy that entire property up, locate and acquire the original blueprints, build sheets and schematics, bulldoze and that current monstrosity and long story short...rebuild 10050 EXACTLY as it was including surrounding landscaping, walkways, driveway, etc! And most importantly, return the house number to 10050 instead of 10066.

Such a beautiful home in a beautiful area. Yet the site of a horrible tragedy. I can understand why it was so hard to rent or sell but it's still a shame that the home couldn't be saved. What I like about it is that it's not some 50 room overblown palace,,but a nice warm normal house. Thanks for the photos and the video.

I’ve been to the Oman House a few times and have interviewed him several times. No hard evidence that Tate and others related to the tragedy haunt it. Even Oman waffles on the claim when pressed. That being said, Oman’s home and other structures in and around Benedict Canyon are said to have paranormal activity. Oman is the only one who has exploited it for financial gain. This isn’t a bad thing, mind you. Just take his claims with grains of salt. He uses Tate to pay his bills without any evidence that she is an actual presence.

You know, the monstrosity that is on that hill now has totally stripped the place of all natural beauty. The original home was far better suited for that hill because it sort of tucked itself into the landscape and became one with it. I just don't understand the necessity of tearing down the original house and building something that is so obviously garish and overbearing to the whole area. Villa Bella it ain't.

I don't think its a monstrosity, I think its a beautiful mansion, BUT, I think its TOO MUCH HOUSE for that plot of land, and I think it just doesn't look right in that neighborhood of just regular houses. Never should have built that type or style or that large of a mansion there. I bet the original house would have been torn down eventually. That's what they do in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Belaire, all the environs. They tear down perfectly good mansions to put up more modern ones. My husband likes to watch this show, which, I will watch once in awhile with him, but it just pisses me off when these two real estate agents/investors buy these really beautiful houses from couples wanting to retire and downsize, tear down the houses for NO REASON other than their greed, build even more beautiful houses but sell them for ten million or more. The people who sold them the house don't even make that much on the sale. But, anyway, that's what they do over there, and pretty sure, if it wasn't that guy who bought the property and built the mansion there, it would have been someone else.

I was almost 14 and living on the west coast. It saddens me even more today than it did then, such senseless murders, all because of being in the same house that Terry Melcher had lived in and, in Manson’s mind, representing the same wealthy elite that had not given “poor Charlie” that recording deal he wanted and entrance to their world. How could anyone be so cruel as to savagely murder five people so young and full of life, one still in his teens and one about to give birth and tearfully pleading for the life of her child.

most people don't know that house was owned by terry melcher before polaski. Terry Melcher (I think son of doris day) was a record producer in the early 60's and produced some of the surf and hot rod songs of the day. He was friends with the Beach boys, in particular, with dennis wilson. legend has it that dennis brought charles manson along one time on a visit and manson demoed some of his music.M Melcher gave it a pass. Dennis did record on of manson's songs. another legend is that manson told the family to go up there and kill melcher for the snub, they went there and polanski and tate had moved into the place. the rest is grizzly history

Incorrect. Neither Terry Melcher or Roman Poalnski owned the property - both were tenants. Melcher had lived there with his partner at the time Candice Bergen. The house belonged to Hollywood Talent and Entertainment Manager, Rudi Altobelli who acquired it in the early 1960s.

Manson had been there looking for Melcher and was fully aware who the current tenants were. Since he couldn’t get his revenge on Terry Melcher, he was willing to have his followers brutally murder whoever had the misfortune to be in the house that night, turning a woman’s hopes and dreams for her unborn child into a nightmare of sheer terror.

Great video. It has me thinking tho that the reason William Garrison turned up the volume on his headphones that night to as loud as he did is because he did hear the shots that killed Steven Parent. I was looking at the illustration that showed the grounds and I remember reading that there was a path that went back to the guest house that didn’t go right in front of the main house. Well looking at it it seems as tho it would take at least a few minutes to get back to the guest house from the driveway. Well unless Steven Parent sat in his car for some minutes before starting his car and leaving then I now believe that Garrison heard those shots on his way back to the guesthouse.

@mschierb1 Thank you for the beautiful comment. You are so right, she did love that house, and all the others as well, it is such a travesty what they did to that historic house. I miss it a lot. George

I have been sort of obsessed with this event the past couple of months, with the 50th anniversary coming up and all. Alot of nights I wake up at exactly 3:10 a.m. it must mean something. Today the thought struck me that that time would be 12:10 a.m. LA time, right when the murders were going down. I wonder if I'm picking up some vibe or echo from that night 50 years ago?

The picture of her on the bike at the entrance looks like it was taken from above like from a higher angle. Were there surveillance cameras around I wonder ?

So you do want everyone to know then??? OK I'll indulge you a little. So he was there for 2 nights and a full day and no-one still alive after (housekeeper, gardeners, visitors) noticed any signs of life in the room above the garage? No activity, no lights on at night, no windows or doors open in the daytime in that hot weather? The police didn't find any signs of anyone being there. When did he leave? Was it him who pressed the button on the gate and superimposed Tex's bloody fingerprint?
