That's a shame it's overblown online like that because I've moved here a year-and-a-half ago and my husband's been hesitant to check out the downtown because what he used to read on Facebook so I'm glad to hear that it's over exaggerated because I've wanted to check it out.

I don't mind Red Deer. Use to play hockey against them in highschool. Lived there for 2 yrs. It's alright.

you should have added, along with the hospital, that there isn't a single doctor's office in central Alberta that is taking new patients. As well, there are very few walk in clinics and the wait times there can be up to 8 hours, or be told they are full for the day and to try again tomorrow. As for the park system, you got that exactly right !!!!! I would say Red Deer has one of the best park and trail systems in the whole world !!!!!! I've always loved that about Red Deer !

There are actually lots of great places to eat in Red Deer if you're looking for variety. If you like Korean BBQ, there's Foodie Bros. or Gangnam and Coco. If you're into Vietnamese, Pho Thuy Dung is the best in town. For Thai there's Ruon Thai or Blue Dragon. For Japanese food, I always recommend the EKA of Japan, or Shiso for sushi. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, Las Palmeras or Tacoloft are great. Hash or Murph's for a tasty breakfast. For great pub food, Bo's or Murph's are great and so is East 40th. It just seems that restaurants don't always have staying power here, but all of the places I mentioned above are both affordable and delicious. You're right about the nightlife, all the clubs closed down and it's a drag if you're younger. We do still have two exotic dancer clubs, two video game arcade bars, a tabletop gaming lounge, and a VR arcade. There are two bowling alleys open late, and there's tons of live music and art culture to take in. There's usually some sort of event going on at Bower Ponds, where you can rent paddleboats in the summer or skates in the winter. Sylvan Lake is ten minutes away and does actually have some decent bars on the Lakeshore Drive strip. The trail system of course, is by far the best thing about RD. All in all, some great points. I recommend The Vat Pub or Bo's for any kind of live tunes, or head downtown and check out Ross Street Patio or Capstone when there's an event going on. Red Deer may not be massive in size, but there's a huge drive towards developing a real sense of community that I think a lot of people tend to be ignorant of. I hope this supplemental info helps anyone new to the area.

I’ve lived in Alberta 16 out of my 17 years and it’s honestly not bad but the homeless population is rising and has made the quality of living change and our housing costs are pretty high, the average apartment is 1,000-1500 a month for rent and housing is regular cost of 300,000-700,000 depending on where you want to live, in my area we have good walking paths I’m not far from the river and it’s all around pretty nice but like anywhere else it has its own problems and downsides just how it has its upsides like recreation and stuff to do

Looking forward to start my college here in polytechnic in January . I have one question , is it easy to get part time jobs during the winter season in the months of jan and feb ?

I literally live in Lower Fairview or as we call it, lower harlem. It's fawking *brutal* down here. Red Deer can be amazing but DO NOT hang out after supper downtown or in Lower Fairview/Riverside Estates. The worst parts of town. I do have to say the food options here are amazing and plenty though.

Red Deer is a nice city. I've never had any problems with anyone there. Just to give the heads up, it is being turned into a S.M.A.R.T. city. S-urveillance, M-onitoring, A-nalysis, R-eporting, T-echnoĺogy.
