Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

"The Canadian talent of self-effacement is such that it approaches mystical levels. Genetic research, psionic studies, nothing determines how Canadian humans walk undisguised amongst all sentient species. A hypothesis is their generating a disconnect between perception and realisation. Possible proof is that other humans say all Canadians are polite--which they are--until they declare war. What happens next is unknown. There are Shimsha who survived fighting Canadians. We would ask what happened, except those few survivors are hopelessly insane from fright."

I'm sure the aliens would figure out eventually, the objective of the war is what united humanity in that case. If it wasn't being conducted for enslavement or genocide, I suspect the other nations would be much more reluctant to mobilise. For instance, if the slavers simply formed their own privateers to directly fight the anti-slavers, the other nations would likely just get out the popcorn while a bunch of armchair military pundits would wax eloquently on the odds for either side.

since when was English latin based? heh. More anglo & germanic in there than latin, though i suppose Norman french did have a solid influence too (though that contains heavy scandinavian influence on top of latin). the point in the story still stands, mandarin/cantonese being very different from european languages, but still...

@@serineaaskold8428 save that the author of the log was speaking about how he could not 'pronounce or understand' the words, and that they were 'spoken in a completely different dialect from' the others. given that the words were likely being passed through a translator for the alien making the log too, the characters being shown on the earth created documents are probably irrelevant.

@@redactedredacted4080 as i said, there are norman french influences, however, latin is not the basis of the english language, not by a long shot. also, seriously, after high school, you think you've seen 'all of the inluence latin had' ... if you want to learn about English, try starting with old english, german, the various scandinavian languages, and then add in a little bit of latin.

Whaaaaat? British nobility, traders and merchants had slaves and slave plantations, and were slave exporters. It is true that most of them located them in various colonies, but Brits participated and benefited from the slave trade. See also: "How many British slave owners were there? 46,000 Britons A five-year project by University College London has compiled the identities of 46,000 Britons who owned slaves, mainly in the West Indies, on the day slavery was abolished in 1833 (1834)" " Britain was one of the most successful slave-trading countries. Together with Portugal, the two countries accounted for about 70% of all Africans transported to the Americas." "Who was the famous British slave trader? Sir John Hawkins (1532-1595) was one of the most notable sailors and naval commanders of the sixteenth century. He is known for his pivotal role in the maritime history of England and the rise of the global slave trade." "The historian Dr Brooke Newman, of Virginia Commonwealth University, has found that William III and Mary II made further wealth from the shares, as England's profits from slavery expanded."
