Here is the unique dynamo sound of the typical NS train as it starts up from a station stop at Assen in Drenthe province.

That's what I was thinking, it must have a three phase drive.

Thats like the GTO-VVVF traction converters switching out resulting in the traction motors making that noise. It acts like a car transmission I think but I am not an expert when it comes to non-American trains.

@gwnlars_83062 жыл бұрын
It had a simmilar VVVF traction when they're built. But due to the high noise they swapped it with igtb/obis. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKhia7B3q-Cmnp8.html Fun fact: They were firstly called DD-IRM (DubbelDeks-InterRegioMaterieel, DoubleDecker-InterRegioStock ((Not used name for intercity)) ). But nowadays, after the extension with 1 or 3 wagons. They are called VIRM. (VerlengdInterRegioMaterieel, and if overhauled VIRMm1 or 2/3 ((VerlengdInterRegioMaterieelgeModerniseerd)).

Well it doesn't act like transmition, but it has similar principles in that transmition is designed to keep the engine at lower RPM's and the changing pattern allows the pulsing frequency of the tyristors to remain within what the technology is capable of.

Kenneth Felter Nope, this is a VIRM. No matter how many carriages it has
@blijecomputer90367 жыл бұрын
TrainplazaNL V-IRM stands for "verlengd interregionaal materieel" which means Lenghtened interregional rolling stock, DD-IRM stands for Dubbeldeks interregionaal materieel, which is double-deck interregional rolljng stock
@TrainplazaNL7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, right... but did you know ALL the VIRM trains have been made longer. Before that, those trains had 3 of 4 carriages, and they were called IRM's. The trains with 3 carriages have been made longer, by adding 1 extra carriage. And the trains with 4 carriages got 2 extra carriages. So all the VIRM's (except for the 4th generation, which has been built later (2009)) have been made longer, so they are all called VIRM.

Thats horrible. The high frequency pitch of the AC traction & inverters hurts my ears & gives me a headache. I much prefer the constant whine of 1500v dc motors

As an electronics engineer it is music to my ears. It is not so loud, impossible that it hurts your ears.
@Dutch3DMaster2 жыл бұрын
@@mauricevandelogt7554 I have a video on my channel from an exceptionally loud one that made people leave the car you could hear it in, and these trains were pulled out of service right after having been put into service because the railways received to much complaints about the noise.
