Allicent had one hell of a episode. Husband died. Found out everyone was conspiring without her knowledge, had to endure Littlefoot, then screamed at by a dragon.

I believe the coronation ceremony is held in the building that sits literally on top of the dragon pits. That’s why Rhaenys smirked/smiled as she was being led like the other folks into this large building. It was built specifically to house the dragons and is likely the largest building in all the realm including Kings Landing. They probably thought to hold the coronation there instead of the Red Keep because it can hold tens of thousands of people

Something that easy to miss, is the princess, Aegon's wife/sister has been saying for two episodes "There is a beast beneath the boards." out of nowhere. She also said something about Aemon losing an eye before he had it cut.

Notice how Cole is dressed exactly like Rhanerya and Aemond is dressed like Daemon

With just one word the whole show really could've ended right then and there!

I also like how hollow the coronation felt, it was so fitting for what I expected a post-Aegon the Conqueror Targaryen coronation to be like. I feel like House Targaryen after what Aegon did struggled to live up to that major achievement. There were obviously some epic Targaryens since then but they all seemed to want to live up to Aegon the Conqueror's legacy. I'll miss Tom Glynn Carney as Aegon until season 2 when he will really become unleashed. I'll also miss Olivia Cooke as Alicent. I hope her and Paddy get nominated. This was definitely Tom Glynn Carney and Eve Best (Rhaenys)'s episode though.

A lot of people do not realize that last episode wasn't the first time that Viserys talked to Alicent about a dream of his that he thought was a prophecy in which his son becomes King. He said it to Alicent in episode 3 by the giant bonfire. If you connect it to the misunderstanding from last episode, it makes it more understandable why Alicent easily believed that Viserys did change his mind about the succession.

I'm glad they kept the much despised Criston putting the Conqeror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born. What the show's doing really well is the details, down to locking up the servants to talks of splitting the treasury to Otto’s ruthless purgesa. Beesbury passionately pleading his case against treason. Usually the heated debates, the sense of treachery & the heartbreaks are glossed over. We only see the regime change as a "fait accompli". This brings to life the mechanism of political intrigue that would historically go behind a palace coup like this, which I would assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I actually love the conflicted & agonizing Alicent more than her steadfast book counterpart. Makes it all the more flesh & blood to me. We see her vacillating until the last moment but ultimately her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a doomed gamble.

Love the show, buy maybe we're too addicted to shock and twists, for me, that coronation scene, the detail, costumes, the music and the transformation of Aegon was already good enough, a banger set-piece. They could have had Rhaenys escaping on Dragon back in her armor and it also would have been great, without her having to burst through the floor or confront hem.

I want to applaud y'all realizing that was Rhaenys' answer to Alicent. So many others focused on her not killing everyone. Those people were still her family and I think she admired Alicent a tad for stepping in front of her son. I also think she had Viserys' last moments still in her mind. She had also told Rhaenyra that she would just watch as the greens brought her down in a previous episode, so at that point, I think she was just glad to be able to return to Driftmark by her own will and not needing the power of another to get her there.

Rhaenys hasn't read Fire & Blood to know of horrors to come. So her pre-emptively nuking half her own family would've been OP. Having said that, the Rhaenys bit was to give audience a 'send home happy' moment which wasn't necessary. The coronation was fantastic in itself. But gawd forbid the ''bad guys' are on top in one episode. Those who thought lowborns of KL have any obligation to support Rhaenyra are in for big disappointments. Aegon claims his birthright from popular King Jaehaerys' Great Council stating king's firstborn male son is next king. Viserys himself won it over Rhaenys like that. Best part of this was the politics, less dragons the better. Despairing mom version of alicent does highlight her humanity more than the colder iteration of the actual green council. A well needed adjustment imo but also a continuation of her Harrenhall or knife scene mistake. They've constantly shown subtleties in her character which audience wilfully ignores since we're watching this as a team sport and gotta cheer team lovable manipulative dad. Her being more humanized shouldn't be an issue unless one wants the show to remain grotesquely tilted towards Black (Laenor death,Rhae-Vaemond)

Its worth noting that Aegon had always felt resentment from his parents and (perhaps as a result) found "love" elsewhere. Which is why when the crowd went bonkers for him, he soaked it in... he never felt that level of love and admiration. Another point is the reason why Alicent wanted Aegon to wear that specific crown (unlike Viserys'), and carry THAT sword is because they were all the OG Aegon the Conqueror's. Hence, it was an easy crowdpleaser to have the new king have the same name as the Conqueror's and don his attire - and it worked.
