Funniest parts of the movie for me 1. The Grinch- I'm an idiot! Echo- You're an idiot! 2. The Grinch- Taxi. *Taxi avoids him* The Grinch- It's because I'm green isn't it!

There's one thing this movie severely lacks; it's explaining the origin of the Grinch's dog, Max. He hates how the Whos just throw everything out, so THAT'S what Max's story should be about. A year long before the Grinch ran away, another young Who went to his parents to say that for Christmas he wanted a dog for his own. Christmas time came, and a pup they brought home. The little young Who was excited and glad, but the novelty wore off, more than a tad. He got bored with the pup, and then quick as a flash, he threw out his would-be-friend with the trash. Meanwhile the Grinch found himself a new home. He was angry and sad and completely alone. Then what to his wandering eye should appear but a puppy who whimpered and whined in fear. He then saw the Grinch, and he smiled with glee. 'Will HE be my friend?' the pup thought, "I shall see!" With no fear in his heart, he sat down by his side. From the Grinch, the pup felt no need to hide. But the Grinch was still hurt, his heart filled with dismay. He looked at the pup and he shoved him away. The pup wasn't vexed by what the Grinch did. He sat down once again by the green, hairy kid and nuzzled him, which said "On me, you can depend." Not long after that, the Grinch called him "Friend".

In my opinion, Jim Carrey was pretty entertaining.

While the Jim Carey adaptation will never replace the animated original, I don’t think it’s that bad. BTW… this was long before Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy-Lou Who in that adaptation, grew up to front a rock band called The Pretty Reckless. She’s come a long way from that!

"Seriously, we're letting the brat sing in this?" What's ironic about that line is that the kid would grow up to become, pretty much, a good singer.

My favorite moment in the whole movie: "This is NOT pudding." "Then what is it?" (No answer) That line was great. Jim Carrey was his usual self, although like Doug said in Cat and the Hat, he does a really good job under that much makeup. Christine Baranski's always great, and in this movie she's also hotter than she has any right to be, which sends my gonads mixed messages. I think Doug's right about everything else. This is enjoyable at times, but it's not Seuss's work. It's not even a good adaptation of it.

The Grinch works, as long as you view it as a parody of the story, and Dr Suess generally. It fails as a straight up adaptation, but as a spoof it's great.

you have to give Jim Carrey credit here. he spent eight hours in makeup getting it put on and getting it taken off. not to mention the yellow contacts he had to wear the covered his ENTIRE EYE. He said in an interview once that those were super painful and he had to take pain meds like 5 times a day just to be able to deal with it and he still performed well imo.

I can't believe you rhymed the entire thing thats crazy, the movie could barely do a couple of lines it was so lazy.

I actually liked it, still kinda do, It holds up, despite a problem or two. Just admit it, the movie would not be as merry If someone else played in it but Mister Carrey. Such as Rob Schneider.

I actually liked this movie, but this episode is hands down, one of the best Critic Episodes.

Fun Fact: The real Dr. Seuss actually hated the original Chuck Jones adaptation.

It could have been worse in two ways because... 1,) - There's definitely a faithful set designed of Whoville that generally feels like a Dr. Seuss Architecture Illustration. Including arched stairs, bulge windows and door, sprangle roof tops as well as convolution balconies. This movie could have done just a cheap town with straight lines, similar to Mike Myers' Cat In The Hat movie. At least the Stage Designers instead went all out in replicating the movie's setting. 2,) - This movie had a lot more footage of around thirty eight minutes more with even just Jim Carrey's proformance alone. Until the movie was edited down to one hour and forty five minutes. At least the Editors had more effort in consolidated the movie's run time.

Fun Fact: Dr. Seuss Hated the original Animated Grinch. I'm still sure he'd hate the Live action one. He never seemed to assosiate himself with his characters personally.

Gotta love that the girl who played Cindy Loo Who (Taylor Momsen) is now the frontwoman and head writer for the hard rock band The Pretty Reckless. How times change.

This movie is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, mainly for Jim Carrey's performance. And I love the rhyming from the Critic.

Hey Critic, the live action is great. As well as book and cartoon, loving them is our fate. As you read this, it must be understood. By 2018, prepare for animated reboot.

I admire the work and care that went into this movie. Even Jim Carrey had a passion for the story as he grew up with it just like a lot of us did. It's been a Christmas tradition of mine for ages to watch the Chuck Jones & Boris Karlofl one. BUUUT---I won't lie, not only am I a huge Jim Carrey fan (grew up watching him, looove Liar Liar and The Mask), but this is a guilty pleasure movie as I know it's not for everyone; just like Jim Carrey. However, watching the Behind The Scenes footage, you really come to appreciate the labour of love this movie was for the crew, Ron Howard especially---and while some of the make-up on the Who's can come off as uncanny valley, to me that's few and far between, I still think it's an amazing interpretation from what little details we have in Suess's simple drawings. Then there's the Grinch design! Don't even get me started! The level of make-up, 2.5 hours in make up every single day, hours taking it off---the suit, how hot it was. JIm Carrey said it was like being buried alive every day. They even hired a CIA operative to train Carrey in torture to help Jim Carrey endure the makeup and costume. Now come on, THAT'S some dedication! You've at least got to admire that at the very least! Knowing that, plus the amazing set designs really makes the movie even more endearing and awesome to me. Stay Grinchy.

Sure it's not great, but the acting is energetic, Jim Carrey alone makes it worth watching, and the absolute MOUNTAINS of effort put in by everybody who worked on it from hair and makeup, costumes, set design, props, so much went into this movie. It's nice to just watch it and see what tiny details you can pick up, like the Christmas trees on the currency.

I'm not a fan of the movie, and the backstory's OK, but my mother loves this movie in an unnatural way. I choose not to comment and keep my thoughts to myself, but it makes as much sense as an Elf on the Shelf. Jim Carrey is funny, I'll give my mom that, and at least this movie isn't Cat in the Hat. I never liked this movie, even as the child. The jokes weren't too funny and the story was mild. Though I did like Jim Carrey and some of the sets, the characters are greedy and the backstory made me upset. But it's far better than Cat in the Hat, I'll give it that.

I watch this review EVERY year on Christmas, and every year I'm amazed at just how animated Doug's face can get. You're incredible, you could've been a great actor.

My hat off to you for managing to do it all in rhyme. Unfortunately, I had to say I did like the Jim Carrey one, but as a movie in itself not so much the works of Dr. Seuss. The animated one of course was the faithful adaption to the book, whereas the Jim Carrey one is just for funny comedy.

Wow, you have my respect for rhyming the whole thing! I watched this movie once, and I thought it was fine, but it didn't really grow on me, and was kinda annoying at times. I don't get either why so many think it's a big Christmas classic, but I don't think it's horrible either.

A guilty pleasure, to be sure. Jim Carrey was great though.
