Super!!! Pozdrawiam

In case you didn't understand the sudden drop in population in 1600's: this was basically a century of constant, neverending, and mostly defensive wars between PLC and almost all of it's neighbours (Mostly Sweden, Russia, Zaporosian cossacks and Ottoman Empire, but also Brandenburg, Hungary, Krimea, Moldovia, and internal rebels caused by succesion disagreements and Lithuanian betrayal during the Swedish invasion).

Man, I felt so sad when it showed the population dropping insanely fast under the Nazis. I'm glad to see how quickly it rose to over a million afterwards though. It hits hard because I'm half Irish, and there was the potato famine (said to be a genocide of sorts too) which reduced Ireland's population from 8 to 4 million in ~7 years. Unfortunately, to this day it has not recovered to its previous level like Warsaw did

@mefjumcz29222 жыл бұрын

If you are mocking the fact that many Poles are quick to criticise the system of the People's Republic of Poland then you should know that they usually have valid reasons (political repressions, almost constant lack of consumer goods, soviet imperialism, to name a few). On the other hand hardly noone disputes the fact that socialism allowed for a quick rebuilding of the ruined country, achieved a high degree of industrialisation and urbanisation, vastly increased the literacy rates, created opportunities for social mobility for the lower classes, and allowed for other developments. We can see that even though the shock therapy and the hectic transition to liberal capitalism caused suffering initially, today Poland has a much higher standard of living than the non-EU post-soviet states; and is relatively well of in comparison to other former-eastern-block-EU-members as well.

@dv62982 жыл бұрын
@@TikKracee According to this video at least, Russian rule seems to coincide with an explosion in population
@lookash30482 жыл бұрын
Beneficient in what? Warsaw grew a lot during Russian period because Russian administration revoke many city titles from smaller Polish cities after 1830 and to keep their townmans' rights their inhabitants had to move out to a few cities which kept their city titles. In 1864 tzar Aleksander revoke also serfdom what cause mass migration of peasnts from overpopulated Polish countryside to overpopulated Warsaw. Warsaw during Russian rule was crowded, stinky, ugly city. To be honest only II world war solved Warsaw's problem of overpopulation in very drastic way.

XIX century was age of dynamic population growth in almost all of Europe.
@adamsukowski4074 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the partitions caused the city to massively expand, giving them considerable funding in comparison to the rest of Poland, mostly bcs of growing population after abolishing serfdom and to centralize his administration, hopefully russifying the region.Except this backfired, and Warsaw became the cultural center of Polish nationalism, leading the next uprisings and shaping Polish ideas in the following centuries.After it was destroyed in ww2, there was a plan to make Lodz a new capital, a manchester-like industrial dump, but fortunately this didn't happen.
