"Props" was Peter Cushing's nickname, because he loved inventing bits of business. He claimed that the climactic scene in Horror of Dracula was his idea : "I said why not do a bit of a Douglas Fairbanks ? Suppose I run along the table and leap for the curtains; they fall down and the sunlight pours in ..."
@andreastewart8871

Dead on with Peter Cushing. I would absolutely trust his Van Helsing because not only is he intellectual formidable but also insanely comforting. When he and Michael Gough saved that child from Lucy, I love how he placed priority on comforting the child. It was so warm and unexpected.

I smiled at your number one pick. In the script, Cushing was supposed to run up to the curtan and rip it open. It was Cushing's idea to run across the table and dive for the curtain. The bit with the crossed candlesticks was also Cushing's idea. Thanks for the memories.

I remember at around 7 years old I saw Bela Lugosi's Dracula with my sister on a late show one Friday night. The next movie I saw was the Gorgon with Lee and Cushing. Man, at that age the introduction music was so scary I had to turn the TV off after 2 minutes worrying the serpent would jump out of the screen. That music was dark and threatening. Lee was the Prince of Draculas no doubt about it. Hammer, along with Amicus and Trigon movies were pure quality. A goldmine of movies from late 1950s to early 1970s. Lee, the Prince of Draculas, and Cushing the ultimate cold ruthless Baron Frankenstein.....two mega legends of genius. But actually there was a third legend.... the third being Vincent Price....in the brilliant Dr Phibes series & Theatre of Blood. A great era of cinema when there were no computers to do the fancy CG effects you see today. Golden memories indeed.

I love these reviews. Thank you for them! One moment that springs to mind is in Taste the Blood of Dracula, where Alice (Linda Hayden) takes a spade to her father, William Hargood (Geoffrey Keen). In that moment, under Dracula's influence, she turned from a sweet and frightened girl into a murderer. However, I think it was more than that, Dracula just managed to tap in to something that was already there. Her father was abusive, controlling and terrifying to her, but Dracula managed to tap into her own shadow and unconscious deep desire to take revenge for all that she experienced at her father's hand.

Between Synapse Films, Arrow Video and Scream Factory ---- I've spent *so much* money on Hammer Films in the month of October. I'm talking *hundreds* ---- nearly thousands ----on films I already owned. Oh, the update to bluray/4k is a true dedication. I've been collecting these films since I was 9 or 10. I'm 39 now. I've owned them all in 5-6 different formats. I get excited when I see one released on a format that they've never been on. The wife? Not so much (only because of the money). But, she enjoys watching them with me. I'm just a sucker for these films (and one's like them). At any rate, thanks for the *superb* upload. Sir Christopher Lee was the spinal chord of Hammer Dracula movies due to his height, dignified style and face equipped with eyes expressions. Legend actinv Peter Cushing also justifed his roles in many dracula movies due to superb acting. Besides, Hammer dracula movies, Francis Ford Coppola left no stone unturned to make Brahm Stoker's Dracula (1992) wherein Dracula was very nice king and beautifully played by Garry Oldman , which was meticulosly made perfect in all respects and comes under 'A' category movies.

Could it be that Harper staked Dracula's bride first because she is the one who bit him, making her more likely to be able to mind control him? Or maybe he thought that by destroying her, it would reverse the process of him being turned into a vampire. After all, Harper was very knowledgeable on vampire folklore. He would have known this. Especially being Van Helsing's partner.

@@robinbailes5236 I was lucky as a child,i got to see my uncle working,at Elstree and Shepperton,i grew up surrounded by famous actors/actresses of the time,none of them blood kin,i was very lucky to have one as a godparent,Ralph Bates,he was such a wonderful person,when i was home on leave,we met up in london,he was doing the comedy show,Dear John at the time,i was so sad when he passed away.

Van helsing's destruction of Dracula in the 1958 film is one of the greatest villain deaths in all of cinema. The first time I saw it I thought, yes, take that you evil git!

Cool video. I love Hammer movies, they're so unique and special. I do get annoyed off when people refer to Dracula as 'Horror of Dracula' because it's not the title! I don't care if it was the US title it's still not the films title.

Another wonderful special - this manages to re-enchant the magic of the franchise even for the 'lesser' films - in particular I really want to revisit AD and Satanic Rites

Only Hammer could bring back Cushing without Lee and Lee without Cushing and make it work. In Brides of Dracula and Dracula-Prince of Darkness they did just that. Thank you David Peel a d Andrew Keir.
