Brett is giving great advice! Don't come here with no plan and little money. Unless you are prepared to go back home again. Take a realistic look at your own capabilities. Always have a plan B. Then if you feel good about everything. Go for it!

I found you because of your video on CM Chinatown. I lived in CM for 13 years ( 16 yrs In Thailand) and worked online all that time. I see a lot of great advice here, advice that certainly was not available to be when I started working online in Thailand. I became a bit disillusioned with Thailand after 16 years, and a lot of people who live there that long experience the same thing. Believe me Thailand was very different 20 years ago, but it’s still a great place to start a new life!

Ive been living in Dubai for 7 years and moving to CM later this year, and you are spot on about speaking to people back home. When I go home I feel like I dont belong there. Id be doing the same old things if I had stayed. Looking forward to getting out of the rat race and a more free life in Thailand.

@James Alexander All the best with whatever you decide. I am loving Chiang Mai so far. Much more chill pace of life. If you can work remotely or have an income its ideal. There will be other places you can do the same but think Thailand offers a lot. I still have stresses but they're no where near the level they were in corporate 9-5 or Western life. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Nice video Brett. How is the atmosphere in Chiang Mai now? I am in Vietnam right now and feel like it's a bit disappointing compared to before Covid. Less friendliness, feels a bit "cold" compared to the past.

I click your vids as soon as I see them. More of an immediate goal for me is to work from home (which I've done before), but still as a 9-5 while I study to get into web dev. Living in London at the moment and the next desired phase after getting into tech would be to be able to live anywhere in the UK while being able to work without having to be at a specific place. Although you're often not talking directly to someone like me, I think your advice is pretty relevant to my goals. One of your points that struck me is about 'stubbornness'; I've never asked for help, and used to be proud of it. But recently I got some consultation help that my company paid for; made me realize just how much I didn't know. Now I recommend 'getting help' to anybody who is willing to hear.

Great tips. Removing mental barriers is key, and also removing those little micro barriers and distractions in daily life is also important, those little things that pull your attention away and stop you getting stuff done. Two good videos on this that helped me along are Alex Becker's video "How Biz Gurus keep you poor and stuck" and Sam Ovens "Death By a Thousand Cuts" videos. Bottom line - cancel Netflix, put phone down and in another room, turn off PS4 and sell it, and just learn to focus on your project for a period of time, without anything else pinging off distracting you.

Yes, patience is a huge one! I started my KZfaq channel 2 years ago and I'm still trying to get monetized. I'm going to spend a couple of hours this morning writing another script, then another 6-10 hours editing in a couple days. It may be another year for me, who knows, but you can't expect to make money online right out of the gate. You gotta put the work in.

I’m in my mid 40’s and in process of the same thing… Don’t let any societal nonsense creep in and make you start doubting. Just keep at it… I think I’m finally on track to be “free” and out of the US late this fall. The last two years really forced me to focus on a long term consistent income stream from anywhere with good internet. So no more coming back to work jobs in a career field I don’t care for anymore, to fund my next adventure.

I could see myself out there once my online Counselling Biz takes off. Im starting my MSC Psych this year, and will have it completed by mid next year. After that, because of the way of the world, online options have opened up, and with webcam/speaker/mic tech the way it is, I could literally run my biz from anywhere in the world, without technically working in the country im chilling at. This is why I always keep your tips, and channel in the fore front of my mind, you seem like a down to earth fella who has it right figured out, and I agree with you on pretty much everything that you put out there. We will see if the world opens up to the unjabbed again considering all the new knowledge coming out into the mainstream.

Awesome! You said the hell with it and just took the plunge. I’m booked for Colombia in September and do not want to come back to California. I was in Thailand November 2019 and didn’t want to leave. Felt so at home in Bangkok. Then we got hit with the pandemic. But this is the year I’m working diligently to make this happen…finally become a digital nomad operating a location independent business. God willing!

Hey Brett, weird question, do you ever get used to the tropical climate? With everything going on in the Western world, political strife, inflation, etc., I've been thinking of packing up and moving to Thailand, at least temporarily. I'm just concerned about adapting to the heat and humidity of a tropical country. I live in the southeastern US so I'm no stranger to hot weather, but Thailand's weather just appears to be on a whole other level.
