When it's done well, nothing hits quite like a beat switch in a rap song. While this isn't a comprehensive list of every single one that I love, here I'm gonna share some of my favourite examples of hip hop beat switches with you guys from producers such as DJ Premier, ATL Jacob, Christo, DJ Scheme, Kal Banx and many many more. I think he has a rule of one song per artist. Tbh I think Raydar has a harder switch considering he drops so many and every beat hits. He even raps consistently over some of those beats. That second beat in particular is immaculate.

Matt Ox’s “unorthodox” ep is literally a project where each song has 2-3 beat switches, and it’s fire. “Revolution” and “infinity” my personal favorites off it, highly recommended checking it out. I feel like he isn’t talked about enough, for as young as he is, he’s uniquely talented and dope.

Kenan vs. Kel by Peggy is what I go to when I think of a beat switch. It starts off slow like other songs on AMHAC but when the beat switch hits, it goddamn hits.
