"Life is always going to be hard. It's just a question of where do you want that hard to come from?" YES. I've had that exact thought/attitude since I was in college. I was amazed how many people around me seemed to think if they just avoided whatever hard thing they currently had, that life would be easier all over. In my 30s and I still get surprised how many people still think this way. Thanks for the validation!

I hear you so much Kayla... my first son was born when Jackson was born and I now have a six month old girl. So they are not even two years apart. It has been the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life! When my firstborn was brand new I went through almost the exact same stuff at the same time that you did with Jackson. You were like a friend to me that I could share stuff with and identify with...and you still are. Thanks for showing how much you adore your kids and at the same time being honest and not leaving anything in the dark about the hard stuff. Hugs and kisses from a German follower! 😘

What gets me through tough times with my 1-year-old is: Staying plugged into KZfaq mommies (like you) binge-listening to audiobooks from the Libby or Hoopla app and of course prayer. For mental health, I binge watch a lady on KZfaq called Therapy in a Nutshell and I practice all of those skills regularly. I would love to be a friend to you and part of your tribe/support group. Books that I recommend are: Parenting with Scripture by Kara G. Durbin, The Duties of Parents by J.C. Ryle, Parenting in Christ by Christina Dronen, The 5 Love Languages for Children by Gary Chapman, and I am currently listening to Sacred Parenting by Gary Thomas.

Started my 2 kids journey with 2 under two 😳 and I was terrified!! Now ones 3 months, my other just turned 2. The most difficult for me is when he has a sleep regression, sometimes the crying fits happen when the baby is also crying. Then add breastfeeding and pumping in to that mix. The screaming is overstimulating! I think them needing me at the same time, less sleep than I got before, bathing time and lacking time for more one on one activities are tough. I long them both so much, but yes it can be fun 🙃

That's also the absolute hardest for me - them needing me at the same time. Our kids are very similar in age difference. It got easier for us when the baby started robbing and rolling around. Now they can often distract each other and the baby can get what she wants mostly by herself. Wish you luck

Love that you shared this video and hearing all your thoughts and experiences. I relate to so many things you mentioned. My daughter is 5 and my son is 2. I personally think it was much easier for us (my husband and I) bc my daughter was 3.5 when my son was born. She was very independent at that point which was very helpful and prevented some stress. I personally found the hardest thing (and still do) is making enough time to spend solo with each child. It is difficult to do anything 1 on 1 or with my husband/I and one child.

Kayla this video is super helpful! I currently have an 18 month old daughter, and am debating whether or not to have baby #2. As much as I want her to have a sibling I don’t know if that outweighs all my other concerns. I feel like people glamorize having kids close in age, but I don’t know if I’m cut of for that. Your honesty is refreshing and it’s nice to see a more realistic perspective.

Thank you for this video and your honesty, currently have a 2 year old daughter and am pregnant with our second and have been stressing about the future day to day with two in the house (our 2 year old is getting more active and curious and loves to explore, and imagining a newborn in the mix, remembering sleepless nights and regression, what toys are appropriate XD the stress is real lmao) but you hit a lot of great points, and I really appreciate your candidness.

The "fights" over toys my sons had (two years apart!) got resolved somewhat by using a timer. It got set for 5 minutes, then the toy was exchanged with the other children. Something my mom used on us 4 kids (and I used too) was a prize given for the child who could ... Not Talk.... for the longest. It worked well if not used very often. It stopped the noise and gave mom a break at least temporarily... Also, if the children all try hard, everyone gets a prize. Also, I LOVE your waitress comparison!!! Its perfect!I've been a waitress 😉 Prayers are an outstanding tool for parenting! And everything. 🙏 ❤️🙏

I started following you when you were pregnant with Jackson and I was pregnant with my second child. Those videos you made staying up all night with Jackson helped me so much back then 😭 my second baby was very similar, super fussy and never slept. I agree with everything you said about having 2 kids. I also have a 4 and 2 year old so I can relate a lot. With one kid I could pretty much do everything I did before but 2 kids you go to full mom mode. I now understand why people say it’s so different to just have one kid vs multiple 😅 it is such a struggle but so worth it

I have a 2 year old toddler and I’m always thinking of my mom because she had 6 of us. I’m just in awe of her. It was me and my brother for a very very long time and we are two years apart and I remember always fighting with him but there was also a lot of love you know. So I was 14 and my brother was 12 when my mom told us she was pregnant and it was so weird but then she had the next 4 back to back all two years apart! I don’t know how she did it but she did. And she always tells me if I can do it with all your brothers you can do it with just one. I bow to all the women with multiple children so close in age. You are amazing for that.

I totally feel you now that my youngest is 1, my 3yr old is now very independent for some stuff that my 1yr old is not ready for. And the mini fights starting now, but the newborn phase was surprisingly easy, she slept a lot and was quite a chill baby compared to my 3yr old. I only struggled with a lot of mom guilt for not spending as much time with my oldest. But yes won’t change it for the world 🥰😍

I clicked on this so fast. I have a 17 month old daughter and I go in to have my son on May 31st. My daughter will be 18 1/2 months old when my son is born and I've never been more terrified in my life. This video did help me more mentally prepare myself and know more of what to expect. I really just can't over think it because thats what I'm really bad about doing. I know I will figure it out but I know there will be really hard days where I feel like I just can't do it. Even in the hard moments with my daughter at her age, I try to tell myself that this stage is only temporary and oddly enough, someday I will miss it. Thank you for the this advice Kayla! 💕

My daughter was 18 months when her baby sister was born and I remember feeling the same way! But I can tell you, it really does all work out. It's crazy bcuz my 2nd born jus turned 10 months and I thought to myself wow, I really have this whole routine with 2 babies down, like it all jus becomes natural after awhile. There are crazy days, not gonna lie, but overall I feel like as my 2nd is crawling now and almost walking, they entertain eachother and it's so beautiful to see them together. Now if i can jus get my first born potty trained that would be awesome lol! Just give it time and go with the flow. God's timing is perfect and they are close in age for a reason 💜🙏 you were born for this 💗 Prayers for a healthy, safe delivery.

My second is still only 9 months and my oldest 25mo so we don’t have actual fighting yet. There is a little of it but mostly just from the oldest, but the struggle of doing activities with kids that are at such different stages in life is real. And the guilt that you’re doing fun stuff for one and not the other. One is always left out. I feel you on the noise too. Mine always meltdown at the same time. It’s real fun haha 🤪 But so far the hardest thing for me besides just juggling them in general is once my second started solids. Feeding my toddler is enough of a struggle and now I’ve got to make a separate baby safe meal. By the time I’ve got the second meal done the first child is ready to be cleaned up. It’s just a non stop cycle of continuous needs which why I’m always so amazed that you’re able to get so much done professionally and with no help. Truly impressive!

I definitely think it was harder going from 1 to 2 than it was 0 to 1. And every single issue you mentioned, I have and currently deal with, especially with then wanting to go do two different things in different rooms or if they do want the same thing, there are arguments lol I also am dealing with the EXACT same with schooling because I am homeschooling my 4 year old, and my 18 mo. Old wants to do everything she does, which is not always age appropriate or she's trying to get my attention by standing on her sister's workbook pages while she's writing, trying to rip up her papers, etc....I love teaching her and will continue to homeschool, but geeze Louise is it stressful to teach a 4 year old with a curious, attention seeking 18 mo old 😆. Glad I'm not alone, everyone else makes it look so easy!!

I also find it really tough to navigate fights/arguments between my kids. I feel like I often want to ask my oldest to “give in” to her younger brother just bc she’s older which isn’t fair. I don’t want to referee all their disagreements/fights either. It’s so tough to navigate how to handle it and it’s a daily occurrence!

I think one of the best things I’ve done with my girls (2 years 9 months apart) is not assist with a new activity until the first is picked up. I don’t bring down a new toy until the first is put away. Another thing I’ve just begun with my older daughter is to say, “would you treat your friends this way?… [no]… then let’s treat sister like we’d treat our friends.” I do a lot of “let’s say it this way” or “we say this” with the girls. If they say “give me the toy!” I’d respond, “say, can I have that please when you’re finished?” This redirection is my whole life. It does seem to work though.

Having them be 2 years apart do you think that’s a good age gap or what do you think is ideal? I have a 2 year old girl and considering the idea of getting pregnant next year once she’s 3. Having another one while she’s closer to 4 sounds like an ideal age gap for me since she will be a little more independent and not as needy.

Maybe once he drops to one nap the older can have quiet time. Activity time is def hard. And now I feel like I have so much brain fog I’m trying to figure out how to teach my older one things and do those activities but also do that for the little one. Plus the little one is always putting things in his mouth. Ugh It’s hard. But we do the best we can.

I have 4 children (8,4,3,7 month old ) all girls and I remember going from 1 to 2 and chilleee I was nervous now I don’t even remember having just 2 kids, I went from 2 to 4 quick 😩😂 but I remember the transition was emotionally hard . Not physically but emotionally . Now going from 2 to 3 was easy and normal at that point and I had a more structured routine . And now I have 4 and I’m drowning emotionally at times but at the same time I’m even more organized . It’s weird lol my fiancé (been together almost 9 years ) works over the road so it’s hard at times because I’m on my own and I’m working full time again (so happy) , but it is very hard for sure . Especially keeping up with the house. I’m stressed y’all 😂 Oo and yes the kids argue all day long . Especially having all girls lol chillleee 😩😩

Momma to 2 year old twin girls and while I don’t have to deal with them being in different stages, I can totally relate to everything else! Especially the fighting, the emotions and the noise! Oh the noise! We are at the stage where they constantly just torture the other one and we are learning to deal with our emotions which is resulting in biting and hair pulling when we are angry 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have an almost 21 month old son and pregnant with baby #2 due in August. On one hand I’m less nervous this time around because I’ve already done it once, I know more now. I am worried about juggling 2 with my own health (I struggle with migraines). I have also wondered how could I love another baby as much as I love my son, but I heard a line from a show called Call the Midwife that stuck with me. It addressed the issue some moms face with going from 1-2 kids and not knowing how their heart could expand. And the line from the show was “Love is not halved, it’s doubled.” ❤️

I have a two year old and a 10 month old. When my 10 month old wants to play with a toy my 2 year old has and my 2 year old doesn't want to share, I tell her ok baby then what can your little sister play with? Can you give her a toy to play with? Or I tell her, can she play with this, can you give her this? And it works at most times. It kind of teaches the older one to share her other toys and to also think about the feelings of the little one. And of course as my 10 month old grows I will work on teaching her boundaries and to take turns, not just grab at toys her sister is playing with. Just some random thoughts. You probably have tried this, I kno all babies are different. Your doing an amazing job 💗 love your videos!

I have 2 close in age like you. My first born just turned 2 and my 2nd born jus turned 10 months. It was harder when my 2nd baby was around 3 months old but now that she is 10 months old it is much better. It gets easier as they grow. I'm sure there's more challenges as they grow but they are more independent and they will play with eachother more. I know it's hard,, especially with not much help..I'm in the same situation. Hang in there 💜🙏 you got this!!

My kiddos are almost 6 and almost 2, my oldest was 3.5 when her brother was born and I swear it made it so much easier. I felt the transition to 2 was WAY easier for me than my transition to 1. But I feel the age difference helped me, and with my 1st I was a working mom and was in grad school, with 2 I was a stay at home mom. And we were in a pandemic so for baby’s first like 3 ish months we couldn’t go anywhere and no one really came to visit 🤣and it was great honestly
@melissaferguson7630
@melissaferguson7630 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I will agree the time was definitely a change. I was so used to just dealing with 1 kiddo, my daughter stopped napping right after her brother was born so finding time to do anything was tough. Also I feel like my house is NEVER clean 😑 no matter how much I do during the day, at the end of the day there’s always more that needs done. My daughter is also active in activities or therapies so we have lots of errands to run, entertaining a baby in the car for hours is so not fun- so sadly we’ve had way more screen time than I ever wanted to but it works

Probably the reason why I made my mind before I even had kids: I cannot home-school my kids and they will be in school. I will keep my career. I just don't have the patience and the sanity that you all SAHM have. Super high respect for you all, I just can't do it. The 15 months straight being home with toddler while working full time, because of the pandemic, killed me (in term of sanity). You moms are doing great (to the best that you can)👏

I’m still on baby #1 but the baby fever is strong to give my son a sibling. My issue is even tho he’s an easy going baby and toddler, I’m exhausted and don’t know how I’ll survive splitting my attention with two kids. It was “easy” when I just got to focus on one feeding schedule and diaper schedule and I can’t imagine keeping track of two separate agendas. But I sure want to 🥴

A hard part of having 2 kids so close in age for me was not comparing them. Things my first born did so quickly or easily that my second didn’t, I had to teach myself that both kids are different. They learn different they eat different, they have different personalities, they hit milestones at different times. I’m still learning to go with the flow and try to enjoy them while they are little even through the difficulties!

Happy to report, no longer crying! 3 months in, some days are harder than others. The biggest shift has been the reality that everyone needs something…even I need something! I’m also a mom of two, and my kids are 10 years apart, so I don’t deal with the being split in two directions type of stuff. He’s old enough to be independent (he’s 12 lol), so there is no fighting or jealousy👍🏼. That being said, It’s more that I was overwhelmed with my second child because she was so different from my first born😵‍💫 My son was an easy baby, an easy toddler….my daughter was not and is not lol. So for me it’s more I’m shell shocked because she is so much more difficult and I was clueless that that could happen to me lol. In my head, other toddlers were just overly difficult, but MY kids weren’t going to be like that right🤣😂🤣 Jokes on me lol

Omg Kayla!!!! I'm only 15 minutes into the video, but I had to stop and comment. I can totally relate to EVERYTHING that you have said so far!!!!! I have two boys, one will be 3 in July and the other is 14 months. When I found out I was pregnant with baby #2, I was so surprised and actually felt guilty. I wasn't trying for another baby and it was a happy accident. I was so worried about how I would love another baby the same way as I did my first. And then I felt guilty about having another baby while my first was still so much a baby. My oldest was only 19 months old when the baby was born. I felt so guilty about how can I do this and how can I split my attention. So I can totally relate. And now omg the noise and fighting over the same toys (even if I have 2 of the same toy) baby bro only wants the one big bro is playing with. And you are totally right on in that they both feed off each other. All we can do is try to do our best but it's rough and totally hard sometimes. It's definitely hard and we can have hard days and complain but it doesn't mean we love our littles any less. Thank you for this video. I needed to see this today.
