Unlike the Eastern Conference, the West is a gigantic dogpile of teams vying for any semblance of playoff relevance. A relentless fight full of parity, developing franchises, revivals, and headaches aplenty. For every Los Angeles, there's an Edmonton struggling to gain traction. Not to mention off-ice turmoil for teams like Arizona and Calgary leaving their futures in their home cities in question (Calgary's is pretty surprising, to say the least).
For these sixteen teams? Anything goes. Except for Seattle, who've just shown us that they're an expansion team. Vegas really fooled us as to the potential success of first-year teams, didn't they?

Yea it's crazy had this happened to say the Sabres everyone would have just rolled their eyes and said oh those guys and everyone probably would have forgotten about it next week but this was the Blackhawks .... who not that long ago were one hell of a team winning 3 cups in a span of 6 years but because of this revelation of their past its really tarnished that dynasty and its sad for the fans who dont deserve this

The Kraken are having a rough season. That's no secret. Can we acknowledge that this team swept the Panthers? That's the highlight of their inaugural season so far at least. Oh well, I can still be glad that Seattle is a part of the NHL. Climate Pledge Arena has been rocking on every Kraken home game. Not to mention their snazzy uniforms.

All in all it's not a complete tire fire, at least off the ice. Went to the AZ-SEA game last night and by God that arena is outstanding. The fans that are there are some of the loudest I've heard and they sure know how to put on a show. I hope to see a playoff crowd in climate pledge someday

Unlike Seattle they hired a decent first head coach who was stupidly dumped by Florida. That same panthers team that let Marchessault and Reilly smith go to Vegas and both were key contributors in that first season along with Karlsson and Fleury in net

The owners of the Panthers and Golden Refs are West Point brats and the my had an agreement to give Vegas all three of those players. Plus they play like thugs and never get called for it.

Being a Hawks fan fucking sucks because we all feel betrayed by what happened, and we all feel so pissed off at what happened and how the organization handled it. It’s despicable, and all I can say Is that I truly hope Kyle Beach and the other victims of Brad Assrich get Justice, and can find peace.

As a Blackhawks fan that title card can not explain the frustrations of this season. I remember watching Kyle Beach in the AHL. He had the skills to become something good. It was a shame of what happened to him.

The Sonics were Seattle's best team, but Starf***s, I mean, Starbucks sold them to an okie carpetbagger with David Stern's evil blessing. Now we have the failed dynasty with the moody, midget QB; the worst baseball team ever; and a couple of not quite major teams who almost nobody cares about. Yes, that means the Sounders, too. I don't care that 37 die hards and a few thousand hipster bandwagoners apparently go to their games. Nobody really cares. This is the reality which the OP referred to.

when i saw their expansion draft i immediately thought that's what they were going for, since the 2022 and 2023 drafts have high end talents that would help them build a strong youthful team for a long time instead of trying to be a short-term contender like vegas

The Blackhawks have lose respect with the fans. Local media don’t talk about the team much since the allegations came out and seeing how fucked up it was it will be a very long time before they gain the respect of the fans again. Then again, Rocky Writz’s recent blow up to the open house media that happened last week didn’t help one bit. The future of the Hawks looks very bleak.

Dallas is in such a weird position. They honestly feel like the 2019-20 group with a worse defense. I'm not very confident in the team, they need to get rid of Bowness and go for Bedard next year if they really want to be competitive long term.

Every time I see the news about the Blackhawks, my stomach DROPS. I already hated them because I was obligated to as a Wild fan. But this...holy fucking shit. And the fact that Toews and Kane, their flagship players for what, at least 10 years, defended Bowman over their own teammate?! FUCK. THEM. THERE IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR EVERYONE IN THE BLACKHAWKS ORGANIZATION. I have NEVER felt such unbridled, MALICIOUS glee in watching a franchise collapse in such a thorough, unmitigated fashion.

Honestly Seattle is a really good team in terms of forwards and defense. Their team save percentage (found on Moneypuck) is god awful (.850 last I checked). Fix that goaltending and they’ll be similar to Vegas

The Kings are at least a full year ahead of schedule. They actually look like they're building a sustainable foundation which they have never really done including the 2012-14 run. The Danault signing looks better by the day. Bright times ahead for LA

Atlanta is a larger media market than Phoenix is, if that's all the NHL cares about. So is Houston. It would have been better for the Yotes to go back to Winnipeg and keep the Thrashers in Atlanta, with later expansion to Houston and Seattle.

The team was hemorrhaging money and were in a similar spot with their Arena as the Coyotes are now… but the people who were trying to boot them from Phillips Arena were THEIR OWNERS. Arizona Coyotes -> Winnipeg Jets, Atlanta Thrashers -> Houston Aeros, Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights is the best case scenario

@@Charles_Groebs Judd Brackett is the real MVP, Guerin is great for just letting Brackett do his thing (and of course do what's needed to get the guys Brackett targets) In just two drafts, Rossi, Khusnutdinov, and Wallstedt, along with D prospects that the Wild were sorely lacking (O'Rourke, Lambos, Peart)

I'll say this even if the preds don't go deep and they all flame out, I've enjoyed them a hell of a lot. They're playing tough and gritty hockey and have some big bodies willing to throw. I don't envy whoever has to through them.

The flames poor stretch in mid december - mid january is mostly due to not having enough practice time and not being able to play often (thank you covid). This is a season where honestly things feel vastly different as a fan of this team. The Flames just needs the bottom 6 to score more and maybe work on the power play, and you have a contender, maybe a favorite for the cup.

Honestly they need to bench plugs like Richardson and Ritchie and play some of the talented youth in the minors. No one can convince me that Philips and Pelletier aren’t better options on the 3/4 lines than Richardson and Ritchie.

@@PhoenixRiseinFlame While I agree with you in terms of Ritchie, I don't think that Richardson has been terrible for the flames, especially since he's had a very strong forechecking game. Ritchie might have lost his confidence considering his play over the last few weeks, so if either of them get called up, I hope they take ritchie's spot until he finds his game again.

I'm thrilled with the Blues so far and I think they have the forward depth to be dangerous in the playoffs but they gotta shore up the defensive depth. Maybe make a move for Chychrun or Klingberg to round out the top four? Glad you mentioned Parayko cause he might be the most frustrating player in the NHL. Sometimes he looks lost out there, and yet there are times like the 2019 NHL playoffs where he looks like an MVP candidate. Whichever Parayko shows up will go a long way towards determining their playoff success.

I'm honestly surprised at this point that Bettman is just like "yah, guys, sure, play in a *5,000 seat* arena. That you have to share with a college CLUB HOCKEY team." Seriously, he'd much rather have them essentially starve to death in the slowest way seen in sports than take advantage of a practically guaranteed 1) relocation fee, wherever they move, and 2) the expected boon in attendance and attention. Seriously, does the governor of Arizona have some dirt on Bettman or something?

I've always been a loyal fan to any team I chose to be a fan of. The Chicago Blackhawks are the exception. What that team did and allowed to happen was unforgivable. I'm no longer a Blackhawks fan, and I hope they never see the Stanley Cup again. Go Blues.

Realistically I never expected much out of the kraken for at least the first few seasons, they are a new teams so you don't expect immediate success but unfortunately vegas smashed those expectations and some people expected seattle to be a playoff team ,I don't expect them to make the playoff for at least 4 seasons, I hope to see success from this franchise but I won't be fooled by thinking they Can do what vegas did, at this point I'm just glad that seattle has a team finally gives me a team close enough to root for

I kinda think part of Vegas's early success came from it felt like the gms generally didn't take it seriously. And many teams were still looking great at the time. Several teams were in overhauls during the Seattle draft, so they didn't have as many great options to pick from, and the gms felt like they did more to protect their cores from the draft

Mangiapane has been great for the flames, but 3 Flames are having potential award calibre years. Gaudreau (Hart), Lindholm (Selke), and Markstrom (Vezina) are all being slept one. If they can continue their strong play they could win some nice hardware

I said it before and I say it again after everything that the Blackhawks have done I can't look at 2010 ever again For a young man who lived in Gary Indiana for 13 years and it moves to Indianapolis and finally sees a team they used to s*** on year after year with a championship in 2010 It was a blessing to see but that championship is forever tainted like I can never forget them for this is going to be a while before I start rooting for them again As for this season as a whole they deserve every bit of karma that comes their way as a Blackhawk fan contact your franchise How about revamp your goddamn franchise

Feel the goaltending in Colorado isn’t such a problem anymore and will only continue to solidify as Francouz continues his solid comeback putting some pressure behind Kuemper. They could have a top 5 tandem come seasons end if they continue to trend in the right direction.
