One thing to note about Kotkaniemi playing on the wing: it's how Rod Brind’amour develops forwards. Sebastian Aho started out on the wing at the NHL level so he could adjust to the speed of the game. Now he's one of the best centers in the league. Martin Necas is also a natural center but he’s been on the wing for the same reasons. So far, good results are showing for him as well. Rod’s trying to help Kotkaniemi make that same adjustment. Also, having consistent linemates should help.

Honestly, I think this the year we take that next step. The team is loaded throughout the lineup with star talent and great scoring depth. The blue line has really good pieces and is solid and Spencer Knight looks promising and if Bobrovsky plays like he did last night against the Pens for the entire season, this team will win a lot of games and should make a playoff push. It also helps that the normal contenders in our division aren’t as strong. Tampa lost a significant portion of their scoring depth, Boston’s core is aging and Rask and Krejci are gone. The team that I feel can match us is Toronto. But I feel our blue line and depth is better than theirs. We’ll see. It’ll be interesting to see how the season plays out. But fortunately our coaching staff has been there before and our players are getting more experience.
