This video explores why the genre of Christmas movies seems to be declining in quality and meaningfulness. It also focuses on how 2023's The Holdovers combats this issue in our current storytelling landscape. We explore why the Christmas movie died. Then, we analyze how the Holdovers reclaims the genre in a meaningful way through its story and cinematography. We also see why the movie must situate itself in our current cultural context through the lens of post-secularism.

While I appreciated the content generally, the music looping and not progressing anywhere, and perhaps due to its volume relative to your voices, ended up being distracting to me. Perhaps with more dynamic vocal presentation and setting the music volume a little lower overall may make the looping less of an issue. But, that said, thank you for bringing a new film to my attention, and doing so in a way that makes me want to watch it.

Christmas horror films are true classics. Black Christmas, silent night deadly night and Christmas evil bring us back to the spooky nature of Christmas when they would tell ghost stories. Christmas at its core doesn’t have anything to do with Jesus….Christians tried to make it their own like Halloween to “justify” it. Christmas is pagan
