I just finished the Border Trilogy and I think it might be the best book series I've ever read. I thought Cities of the Plain was an excellent ending to the trilogy, though I can't say for certain whether or not I would have enjoyed it as much as I did without reading the other two books first.

Agreed! It’s one of my favorite trilogies, too! It’s certainly a fitting ending, and I can’t imagine on missing out of the richness the other two novels give these characters and the landscape.

Cities of the plain is the best book in the trilogy.

I’d give that to All the Pretty Horses (which is up there amongst my favorite books of all time). Cities of the Plain would be a close second though.
