C’mon, it’s a great song! A nice little story about two people that got close by meeting at the bus stop and they finally got married.

I’m only 68 years old, and I’ve run out of digits to count all the concerts I’ve gone to. One of my favourite all time concerts, was the Hollies. Small venue and front row. The band would take turns telling the stories of how the songs came about, then sing them. Incredible show…

An excellent song and one of The Hollies' best tracks. The Hollies were always known for their distinct harmonies - a wonderful blend of Allan Clark's lead with guitarist Tony Hicks, while Graham Nash providing the high notes. As others have probably mentioned, Graham Nash would later be a founding member of Crosby Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young). I'm also sure others may have mentioned this song was written by Graham Gouldman, who wrote a large number of great '60s songs and was later a founding member of 10cc.

The things I always observed about the Hollies was that they were unmistakeably Brit, their tight harmonies and the way you always knew what you were going to get: On a Carousel, Stop All the Dancing, Look Through Any Window; and later there was Long Cool Woman, He Ain't Heavy, Air That I Breathe. One of the reasons Graham Nash left the Hollies (apart from being totally seduced by the American pop-rock-soul music explosion -- and a pleasant fling with Joni Mitchell) was that he'd written a song the Hollies felt they should not perform because it did not sound like a Holies song: Marrakesh Express. But put on a copy of Hollies Greatest Hits and you'll get your fill of that distinct sound, a sort of time capsule of 1960's swingin' London hitsville.

The Hollies were a huge band in the 60’s , especially in the UK. Graham Nash left the Hollies in 1968 to form a new band called Crosby, Stills and Nash. Another great Hollies song is “Look Through Any Window”.

Love that one! I also like a sleeper of theirs that never really caught on. It didn't even reach the Top 40 in America anyway. It's their cover of "I Can't Let Go". 😊

Those harmonies sound great on an AM radio. That 12-string guitar slays and the backing vocals are sung by Graham Nash, who went on to form Crosby, Stills & Nash. Pop music from the fifties and sixties resonated throughout the seventies and eighties. I remember hearing this song on the radio in the eighties while driving around San Diego listening to the "golden oldies" station coming out of Tijuana -- XTRA "extra gold" -- in the old work truck we used to run errands at the place I worked.

Apart from the catchy melody and trendy Eastern-inflienced instrumentation, what makes this work so well is the economy and simplicity of the lyrics. 'Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say'. Scenario in eight words. Add to that the clear, edgy harmonies of Graham Nash and Allan Clarke and you have the perfect 60s pop song, ideal for AM radio and the transistor radios we all carried with us everywhere, just as young people do with their cellphones today. Try to embrace the musical context for better appreciation. Sometimes ears alone are not enough, Angela.

I think we as subscribers or viewers need to realize that as well. I was disappointed she didn’t like the song but the same time I don’t like every song out there. It’s all a matter of personal opinion. I don’t think her generation values traditional marriage much either, so while we have certain emotions listening to the song, she doesn’t feel that.

Ha, yes, interesting. I’ve always liked this one, still do. I hear the Monkeys and Stones similarity, but smile knowing Graham Nash is in the harmonic mix. Cross-reference LovinSpoonful’s “Rain on the Roof” and the Police “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”. Oh, and Prince “Raspberry Beret”. … and John Sebastian “Magical Connection”. Something about rain and love… or something close to it… 😃

It's an odd song for sure kind of off beat and very popular in its day. The rhymes are a little weak and it hasn't aged well. Still a nice nostalgic choice so I'll give a thumbs up as I know many are gonna love it so.
