My nephew has a real scar and he hates it. He literally bought the thing because he loved it in MW2. The thing is a nightmare to clean and the vast majority of parts/accessories that fit nearly all other rifles don't fit on the scar. To clean it you have to fold the stock. Well a lot of states in the US don't allow you to have a rifle with a folding stock. The state demands the stock be bolted so it can't fold. So essentially you buy a gun that you can never clean legally.

For those interested in what an irl Bolter could be like, the weapon is heavily based on the Gyrojet (the channel Forgotten Weapons has an informative video on its history).

If you want to see just how much an M2 Browning is a real life bolter, check out the Raufoss Mk211 rounds that are one of the most popular bullets to put in them. While they are expensive ($75 a shot), the bullets are incendiary, high explosive, and armor piercing. They work kind of like a backwards bolter, where instead of penetrating first and then exploding, it instead deflagrates first on impact, softening up the armor and using the shaped charge to propel a fragmenting tungsten penetrator and a cloud of zirconium sparks into the target at 4000 ft/s. The International Red Cross has been quite insistent that militaries try not to shoot Humans with these. While they only detonate 50% of the time when you do (they're designed to shoot holes in armored vehicles), when they *do* explode the results are...ugly. First, the explosion is designed to be subsonic (it deflagrates rather than detonates), meaning that it will usually have penetrated 30-40 cm before really going off. As such, it will often explode *inside* the body, just like a bolter does, a process which renders that body part into little more than a cloud of pink mist and glowing sparks. Second, the penetrator will still fragment from the explosion, spraying a cone of tungsten fragments through the target and into anyone behind them. Ironically, you're *worse* off wearing body armor when hit by these, as they seem to go off basically every time if they hit an armor vest.

GW writers didn’t know Wtf they were doing and thought “DURRRR HYDROGEN BOMBS GO BOOM SO MAKE BOLT ROUND FULL MAKE BOOM BIG!” and really they should have used uranium or ya know, ANY metal or radioactive material. Not hydrogen that’s useful for fusion 🤦🏻‍♂️

I assume Hellfire Rounds work due to it having “Mutagenic acid” either causing the targets genes to melt or a acid that is constantly changing.

To be fair, the combi-bolter and storm bolter have some differences. The combi-bolter, as the name implies, are 2 bolters modded to combine and fire under one trigger. Due to this, it has some subtle differences. The first being the fire rate is strange as it doesn’t fire both barrels in sync in a way, one barrel will fire and the other will fire 2 milliseconds later, along with one trigger pull firing 5 or so bullets at once. Making it good for short range spray and pray. Also it requires 2 separate magazines to reload it. A storm bolter can be said to be a refined combi-bolter, as it is built as one weapon and not the combination of 2. Due to this, they are more accurate to an extent as the gun fires in sync, allowing the operator to use it more effectively and conserve ammo. Along with the fact it uses one magazine. Which is why many loyalist terminators will prefer the storm bolter as you won’t have to reload as often when compared to a combi-bolter.

Combi-bolter and Storm Bolter while basically the same thing are technically two different bolters. The combi-bolter was essentially two bolters strapped together and was used by both loyalists and traitors during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. The storm bolter was designed to be a better combi bolter and was made after the Horus Heresy. (EDIT: I found that the Adeptus Custodes did use a type of storm bolter called the Lastrum Pattern Storm Bolter, but that might be a retcon or an error in lore since the Lastrum Storm Bolter was introduced in the Horus Heresy: Inferno, the Seventh book of the Horus Heresy game series that came out in 2017. The writers might have forgotten that piece of lore or did a retcon, since Lastrum Pattern Storm Bolter sounds better then Lastrum Pattern Combi-Bolter) That is the reason why in current 40k you see traitors using only combi-bolters and loyalist models that come from the Horus Heresy using them as well

The traitors secretly developed a new standard round that was better at penetration on armoires targets. This is why early Horus heresy battles often were heavily in favor of traitor forces

I absolutely love how the Ultramarine at the 33 minute mark has named his bolter Ultra. His Ultrabolter to go with his Ultrasword while traveling on his Ultraship. This is fact and nobody can convince me otherwise.

On the Hellfire round: the acid works on the physical from of the target, rather than its specific makeup. As long as theres squishy bits inside, the acid can work. The Nids COULD evolve slmerhinf that doesnt need those but it would make a terrible combat bioform

I would like to remind everyone that the imperial navy uses megabolters who’s ammunition fires rounds with a 1km blast radius and it’s supposed to be an anti starfighter weapon. Granted space is really big so you need to cover a lot of ground with a lot of explosions. Also if I’m not mistaken the Vulkan megabolters fire 150mm shells if they’re literally “larger than a human skull” but I take that with a grain of salt.

Point of Metal Storm Frag Shells is that there's proximity detector in it so it explodes in to shrapnel few meters before the target kinda turning the bolter into a shotgun in a sense.

8:30, some reasons why people don't like the SCAR-H are that it tends to misfeed/fail to eject brass often, the standard barrel is long as shit so you wouldn't really want to clear a house with it, and the charging handle being that far forward. If you hold the rifle by the magazine well instead of a gangster grip or a smaller foregrip your thumb is probably gonna get smacked by it. Plus with it being a 7.62 caliber, that larger ammo caliber (from 5.56) adds weight to it fast and yes I know the H in SCAR-H stands for heavy.

There's one official-ish description of what bolter shells do to astartes armor from the Space Wolf books that stuck in my mind. The rounds they took from a traitor marine didn't penetrate, but they did _crack_ the plates from the sheer force of impact. Ragnar and his squad fixed the damage with some kind of ceramic cement stuff but it was mentioned that this was only a temporary patch-job and the whole plate would have to be taken off and fixed in a dedicated workshop later.

Franky on the storm-combi bolter thing GW also uses both in their datasheets as if they're different guns, but they have the exact same profile.

The real reason we primarily use M4s and other AR-15 variants over the SCAR is that the AR is just a more modular platform. Also because until recently it had a reciprocating charging handle and those suck.

Absolutely bomb video gentlemen thank you for being the heroes we needed. One thing I will contend personally with is that there's actually zero reason for you to need to have ammunition that would blast a normal human's arm off, and that it doesn't need to be that big reasonably for .75 Caliber. My primary reason is: we had .75 Caliber black powder handguns that people regularly shot, and their arms did not blow off! There are modern .50 Caliber handgun projectiles like .50 GI that you can shoot with normal human arms and not have them blow off. There are videos of people out there hip firing Barrett M82's because the massive compensator on the front of the thing and the reciprocating barrel takes most of that felt recoil away from you. With a .75 Caliber round that's controlled via rocket, you don't even need to fire the projectile at supersonic speeds. That all can happen once the actual projectile (I refuse to call it a bullet) leaves the barrel, via the rocket fuel in the round. I do love the idea that it's just a sugar rocket on steroids. Feel like most of the issues with reliability would also stem from the fact that the firearm is ridiculously proportioned and they're too afraid to open up the M12.39 version of Autocad and whip up a wholly new design that isn't "okay now this but the bullet does fire also please"

Some of those "backwater humies" were more technologically advanced than the Imperium and had bolters themselves.

A standard bollter shell is basically a Mk 211 Raufoss combined with the old Gyrojet system and then upscaled a bit.

Also regarding the "depleted deuterium core": It's something also known as "Metallic Hydrogen", which is hydrogen compressed so much that it starts to act like a metal rather than a gas. You get it in the hearts of gas giants...and in every single standard bolter round. It's a.) very dense and b.) extremely explosive. Apparently it's a byproduct of the fusion reactors everything in 40k uses.

MAGS! Dang it! Clips hold so many rounds and are usually fed from the top or bottom. Example: M1 Grand. Bolters have magazines, which hold more rounds than a clip like any other semi-automatic rifle or SMG or pistol.

Man I sure love combi bolters

Honestly I think Space Marine and Boltgun got the sound of the bolter absolutely nailed. It's punchy, it's meaty, I love it. As a gun nut you guys actually do pretty alright with the firearms knowledge, most of the fundamental stuff about logistics that you were spitting was correct. The FN SCAR is a good example too; a rather finnicky weapon platform from what I understand, and being a gun made by FN, it is of exceptional quality. Whereas a gun like the Sten could be literally built with 90% hardware store parts and shat out by a dude in a shed for a fraction of the cost of main-line rifles. Completely different generations of weaponry but good examples nonetheless. Edit: it is indeed the M2 Browning; the venerable M2 or Ma Deuce has been in service for over a century, as it entered service in 1921 if I recall correctly. Also you should drag DK to a range sometime and do a lil video of it, that'd be sick and I am NOT biased.

If you fire a bullrt into most military grade explosives, it just breaks them, not explode. Military spend a lot of time and money on RnD making sure their explosives only explode with a proper detonator.

Bullets will not go off if it gets shot most high explosives are very stable. From being struck. If shot. They typically need a very specific order of events to go off in an explosion
