The holy grail of ebike motors? Differences with BBSHD and CYC vs TOSEVEN DM01

Have been testing out the DM01 from TOSEVEN at 72 volts. What is impressing me so far is the ability to use pedal assist at 72 volts without overrunning the cranks. This is early days but it is promising. It could mean that we can have a road legal ebike that is functional to ride and then with the push of a button unleash its power when it's acceptable to do so. More information will be on our discord. highvoltagekits.com/discord
The upgrade kit we will be looking to develop for this motor will be very similar to the one we use on the BBSHD highvoltagekits.com/hv-shop/p...

It will be very interesting how it develops. The reduction ratio makes quite a difference. I will try and do some videos on taking various parts of it apart as the internals are a bit different to the BBSHD especially the sprag clutch area.

I love my DM01. Have been riding it for 150 miles so far coming from a tsdz2, the torque sensor feels as smooth as OSF on the tsdz2 but with way more responsiveness and power coming out of the motor. Really hope this motor succeeds in the market so there's parts and community support for a long time.

Mr. high voltage i do not want a free asi beta controller kit. I wlll gladly pay for an unfiniished test product that'll help with the development of this motor! Thats what I've been trying to say haha. Seriously though. I have a 60v battery, which is not a voltage I've seen you running in your latest few videos. If you'd allow, I will be your 60v test dummy once cali ebike sends me the dm01. Just want to be part of something major and i think this is my window of opportunity. Thanks for your time ✌🏾

The testing and time you and your team put in provides a huge benefit to the DYI community; it's obvious this is a work of passion not a work for profit undertaking. P.S. Really glad to see this coming together. I reluctantly bought the CYC photon, as I really wanted that torque sensor, and the Tongsheng seemed even less robust and capable. The BBSHD with a torque sensor really is the dream. I hope this manages to land on that sort of combination, especially with the sort of shenanigans CYC has been pulling, shipping half backed products.

This is a great project and the goal here is pretty much exactly what I have been looking for. I am surprised that no one yet has offered such a motor with torque sensing and also the ability to go full blast on throttle. To date everything has been a compromise biased one way or the other. Now the coming BBS M635 may change that, but I don't know enough about it yet to know for sure. But this DM-01 with your upgrade kit would certainly fit the bill... at least once the torque sense is resolved. I'll be following along... and maybe picking up a DM-01 in anticipation.

I've watched many, many of your YT videos and am a subscriber. Do to an injury, I no longer have full strength in my left leg for pedaling. I'd like to convert a 2012 26" Disc Trucker into an ebike for paved trail touring 90% of the time. I have a good mechanical aptitude, have confidence and own many tools. I've viewed posts on EBR on DIY builds. i know I'll have to figure in replacement bars, stem, cables and some hardware. Long story short, I'm looking for the most reliable kit capable to reach 50kph at present. I stand 183cm and 104 km. I used to be fairly athletic and am a mild risk taker. Goal: Build a nice bike that surpasses a commercial version near the $3k-$4k US price range. a build recipe would be great and would consider paying for one. If you'd rather communicate by email that's very good with me. Thanks Tuna

Looks like a nice motor I have a concern w/ the gear reduction though. Not sure if it's grounded in reality or not. But it seems like with the higher reduction, you'd be trading chain speed for chain tension. And running it on smaller sprockets gives fewer points of contact for that tension. Any concerns about excess chain/sprocket wear, especially with the gears? Honestly, I love my BBSHD. Once I got the settings dialed in for my PAS, it rides very comfortably but can still send a decent bit of power to the rear wheels. Running the open source firmware on mine. 33a/52v. Hope to pick up one of your kits someday. Been eying them for.... shoot... A year and a half now.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 8 ай бұрын
Cheers. I am not 100% is the honest answer on the tension. The gear I am in most of the time at the back is a 28t The biggest is a 32t. I would like to have something a bit more balanced. No more concern than with the BBSHD really. I mean at higher power things move faster and thus wear faster but I did not burn through chains on the BBSHD so I don't expect to here. I will monitor things though. The BBSHD is an awesome motor and if this pans out even 75% of that with a torque sensor I think it will be worthwhile. You are welcome on our discord and you can upgrade anytime you want. Maybe this will be a proven motor by then. Cheers

Oh dang that’s what I was hoping to get with the BBSHD fatboy build I was going to start working on for Christmas. I want to be able to use the electric bike part to get me to the trails. Then, turn the pedal assist down to where I can ride the bike as if it doesn’t have the weight of the motor and 72v battery strapped to it. I should hold off buying that until I see what this can do. So far I’m leaning this way to the DM-01

The widest is 110mm so potentially. I'm not sure it will work with the fatboy frame. I use the 120mm bbshd on mine. It's funny we are the opposite. I'd probably use the pedal assist more about town till I get to the offroad part.

Thats a good question. Based on my interactions the company is well established in the hub motor market with many products. These are their first mid-drives. But by the sounds of it they are serious about them. So I am pretty confident parts will be available although until the dealer network is fleshed out it might be a case of getting them sent directly. I am hopeful they will be robust like the BBSHD and not need much repair or infrequent anyway. Early days though. I will ask some questions on parts and see what the situation is.

It's pretty close with the chainline. I was able to hit the biggest gear on a 10 spd cassette. I think 5 or 6 is really all that's needed with this though. Ideally an igh that can handle the torque but non exist at reasonable price.

This is so intriguing. I thought the Photon was the answer until I saw the bottom bracket interference and then the phase wire issue. Thank you for your honest reporting and in depth analysis. They may still be a contender someday but they need to get their quality under control quickly. This Two Seven has even more potential. I too want an assist motor to extend the range by pedaling and give me the excercise I want (need), but there are roads here where huffing up a hill below 10mph is just not safe. Sorry pal, it aint "The Holy Grail", of motors, lol. You just prvoed it in this video. People that want to build a powerful ebike don't care about peddal assist. I will personally never use it. I have a normal lightweight bike for that. It's called excersize. And not being able to 1:1 ratio with no gears means it cant possibly beat the BBSHD. And fuck 750 watts.

Clearly it does not appeal to you mate. Thats cool. Glad you don't mince your words and say what you mean. I am not sure how many people you speak for though. Lots of people struggle with normal bikes for exercise. For them having an ebike means they can exercise. Where I live the idea of riding a regular bike around town with 10% grades everywhere is just soul destroying. But with an ebike you can be very precise about the level of exertion. If its 30 out and I don't have to work about over cooking it as I can up the pedal assist. With this you can do that and go for a crazy rip all on the same bike at 3000+ watts. With that 750 watts you can greatly extend your usable range. For me that would be ride through town with the pedal assist out to the outskirts and then ride at higher power. In terms of the BBSHD and the 1:1... you do lose that. So if that is exactly what you want then that's exactly what you want. That's your ideal electric bike. But my Holy Grail going back to when I first started doing this stuff with the NXT was to make PAS more functional as well as being able to deliver at higher power.
