DIY E Bike Speed Test - This video is a speed test of the TOSEVEN DMO1 mid drive motor. We are stressing it at power levels of 3kw up a steady 4km climb of 8-10% grades. There is some commentary on the various aspects of this speed test. If you have any questions you are welcome to post them in the comments or on our discord channel where there is a dedicated section for TOSEVEN motors. highvoltagekits.com/discord
The upgrade kit being used with this motor is listed here. Currently its only available for the BBSHD. highvoltagekits.com/hv-shop/p...

Sweet! I'd personally feel more comfortable, at those speeds on a wet road, with a bigger contact patch like a 3 or 4 inch fat tire offers. It's awesome seeing the DM01 do so well in your tests.

Yeah. I will be switching over the the FatBike for most of the riding. Maybe I will swap over to a DM01. Not 100% sure the 110mm will fit. We will see. Am moving on to the DM02 shortly as I think less power will still be manageable.

At this stage I prefer the term like electric vehicle. Hopefully one day they will see the potential of such vehicles when made correctly and give us a path to be more legal with lights and proper regulations. Most of the time I do not ride at these speeds. But its nice to be able to run with traffic for brief periods when I can't access quieter streets.

Agreed about the points about running with traffic and also the need for a legal path to easily make higher power ebikes legal. @@HighVoltageKits

when you talk about hill climbing like that long 4km run it would be good if you also added the degree angle from level it would give a better idea of how steep the hills are that you're climbing... any thanks for the video

I'll try. I only have the one phone and it looks like it can't run strava and pull the data from the controller. It varies between 8 and 10% though. I'll see what I can figure out as you are right. It would be cool to have that.

Thank you for the informative and thorough videos! I want to check in and see what the current 'status' of this kit is as of Feb 2024. I see that the motor kit is available online for purchase - does that mean that many of the items in your older vidoes such as the poor cable routing from the motor and the excessive cable length etc has been solved or does that still remain? Additionally, I see that the kit on california cycle has brake sensors with it - will these work with hydraulic breaks? I am interested in pairing this with something like a Trek FX3. Thank you!
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the long cables still remain. The feedback was sent on though. I don't think much has changed beyond the firmware which has seen some improvements to the torque sensor.

It's not for nothing but to have a temperature of 7 degrees in summer I think that both the controller and the motor are going to get very hot.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 7 ай бұрын
The controller is not an issue. It was not in direct airflow as this build is a very much development. After I opened the side zip on the controller bag it stayed much more in range and once its mounted on the frame it will be no problem. The motor will always be a balance. I used to run the same hill with a BBSHD and past 25C outside you need to watch it a bit. But by that point it will be set to throttle. So in practice it should be safe. With the BBSHD we were able to do that. This is a new motor though so perhaps it will behave differently. Another option would be to run a kinder gear ration and accept a lower top speed up the hill of say 45 which would generate less heat. We try to not let the internal temps get above 70-80C which tends to put extra stress on the components. Good comment. Cheers

BTW. How often do you have to replace chain and cassette? Every 1000 km or less?
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 7 ай бұрын
I usually switch chains at 4-5k. At least that's been the case with my BBSHD. I have a chain tool to check them periodically. Unless your chain is really out of line the wear should be dramatic. If chains are failing early it's usually a problem in the drivetrain somewhere or really cheap chain.
@mikethomas6051
@mikethomas6051 2 ай бұрын
@@HighVoltageKits3-4km is good mileage for a chain on an ebike especially on a bbshd 😀 i use kmc 9 chains and they are outstanding.
@mikethomas6051
@mikethomas6051 2 ай бұрын
Be aware, you really want a high quality chain and cassette, also as your chain wears down and stretches, the cassette will also wear on the gears, often you will replace both depending.

I have one question. I'm gonna build a 3-wheel tilting cargo bike. What would be the better motor and also why? Toseven dm01 Or Bafang ultra G510 uart? I think you have enough experience to answer this with easy. Thanks in advance! 🙃
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 6 ай бұрын
I am assuming this is something you are building from scratch? If so then you are going to get a cleaner look with the m620. You can make the bracket as part of the design. The 01 is a bottom bracket DIY motor. Both will give you similar power. The DMO1 can go up to 60 volts. The DMO1 also has a less proven track record. Depending on where you get it from though it might be cheaper. Otherwise both will get you torque sensing. For an OEM look the G510 would give you a nicer final product. Hope this helps. Cheers

@@HighVoltageKits thanks for your answer. These are all the points I know about. But which one drives better? Which is smoother? Which one would be more reliable? The look is for sure better and cooler with the g510. But if the look doesn't matter what would you choose? 🤔

The BBSHD boasts a peak power of 4000 watts, surpassing the TOSEVEN DM01 which has a peak power of 3000 watts.
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 7 ай бұрын
I mean right now I have the watts limited on the DM01 to 3250. But I could stick it at 4000. But I'm pretty cautious. I'm in no rush especially heading into winter. As it stands this is the only DM01 with an external controller in the world. The bbshd has been tried and tested for years to reach the generally accepted 4000 watts. I guess the point is we just don't yet know the absolute limits of these TOSEVEN motors. Gonna be fun finding out tho.

When I listen to you take off from a light it doesn’t seem like you are shifting. Are you?
@HighVoltageKits
@HighVoltageKits 7 ай бұрын
For a large part of it no. I am mostly using the largest sprockets. The 32t gets you up to about 50kph the 28t is topping out at just over 65kph. The field weakening is giving it quite a wide RPM range. More than I was expecting. The 26t if you are up to speed you can get over 70 which is too fast really for the scenarios where I want to ride this bike. I am shifting quite alot more riding pedal assist with the field weakening turned off.
