Finally, Abi has been my number one from her audition on, that's why she won the platinum ticket and got the prime spot last night! She killed both songs last night and also showed her juggling skills! She is my favorite to win and have a great career!

Jack is definitely the one performer week after week that is bringing it.

I feel like nobody is talking about how Abi reminds us of Angie Miller from many seasons ago. Right?! The cracks and falsettos in their voices. So many similar vocal choices. Angie was underrated for how amazing she was.

I attended last night's show live. I sat with the contestant's families which Is always fun. Overall, the performances were entertaining. In person, Jack was on another level. Abi is "professional." That "equipment malfunction" and how she deftly handled it was amazing. I have no idea what they showed on TV but the judges literally went crazy first bumping and celebrating. But the problem with Abi "the professional" is that she sacrifices "soul" for technique. I was disappointed Emmy made it through over Julia. I don't want to be negative but all of this "your coming out of your shell" stuff has gotten really old. She is the grand daughter of a Country legend and has even performed on stage with said legend. That has given her exposure and opportunities other contestants could only dream of. During the dance numbers, she poured cold water on the crowd. Sadly, I knew Julia could not recover from her dance number. It just didn't work. Her Adele song was powerful and her voice was powerful. Will was far more important to the show than I expected. The way he worked the crowd and smiled before his performance created a "hell, son, let's get this party started!" vibe. I was certain the "Adele catalogue" would be his undoing... nope.

My favorites by far are Jack and Abi 🤍

Abi’s version of Hello was gorgeous and so smart and perfectly executed. There was a Tori Amos vibe going on there with the piano accompaniment and in the way she used the softness in her voice at the onset. I was really impressed. She made it so effortless and natural that it would be easy to miss just how brilliant the whole thing was. It was SO smart to not try and compete with Adele’s voice. Obviously, Adele writes her music for her own voice and I think people don’t realize just how agile you need to be vocally to sing her songs well. She flips between her registers at a rapid fire pace. The lyrics themselves and where she places them against the music have a sway and a pulse to them that you have to nail perfectly or it all falls kinda flat. She has such a rich, wide, powerful mixed voice and her broad natural speaking accent places inflections in a specific way … it’s just hard to make an Adele song sound as good when yo don’t have Adele’s entire vocal tract lol. Abi has a powerful voice in there but the timbre of it is a lot brighter than Adele’s which can make it really difficult to get the *punch* out of the lyrics so she just didn’t try and compete with that and she placed the vocal emphasis on different parts of phrases and lines that still translated that powerful emotion but in a totally different way. I could geek out about this performance for a while. It was just brilliant. Very rare to see someone this young with this much insight into the power of arrangement to do all those things: keep the emotional integrity of the original but constructed to allow your voice to be the vehicle instead of mimicking the original. It’s the best Adele cover I’ve seen since Chester Bennington did Rolling in the Deep.

abi is on a league of her own both on vocal quality and on musicianship. jack is a solid #2 but abi should win hands down.

Emmy over Julia is a travesty. Jack B absolutely blew the shi-t off the ceiling with his first song. I can no longer listen to the judges. They speak gibberish and nonsense. When everyone gets a standing O every time, standing O’s lose their meaning. I miss the days when the judges gave actual critiques.

Emmys vocals have such a special quality much like Julia Stone. Many people don't get it but those that do know she's special. Her tone and style is very emotional and translates well to an emo / alternative vibe. She can definitely make a mark in the music industry and most likely will. Not every thing on the billboard charts is about hitting and holding high notes and doing runs. Emmys a damn good singer.

Clark you know it is country idol now. Will and Triston have the strong country vote. They should do a separate country idol show.

Abi’s Adele was unbelievably beautiful. 😭❤️🌟 She really should win the whole thing. I can’t even watch Will, Emmy or Jack, but Triston is cute and is at least entertaining.

Out of the remaining contestants JACK is the most exciting and versatile for me, his voice is kinda magic for me. I would go to his concert tomorrow! He’s shown the most growth of any of the contestants IMHO. I hated to see Julia and McKenna leave the show last night. I just don’t understand how Tristan is in the top 5. For me, he should have been gone a few weeks ago.

As someone who loves songs that move or inspire me, I love Abie the best. With the Adele song I was moved and with the Fall Out Boy song I literally played it over and over for my workout.

Abi has been my favourite for a while. Mackenna was my No 2, but she's gone now unfortunately. I think Triston is in over his head since he's so young and hasn't experienced the things he's singing about. I'm so not into country music, but I think Will will be the runner-up to Abi. (I only get to see what's posted on KZfaq since I'm in Australia, so I've probably missed some of the shows.)

When I heard the announcement of the Top 5, I went to look for this video (which probably hadn't been posted yet) because the FIRST thing I said out loud was "Well, this is exactly what Clark Beckham was saying!" You are a very astute commentator and your channel is always the one to check out. I was disappointed we lost Julia, but I agree with what you said about the first song choice. Now she's gone, Jack or Abi would be my preferred winner, but I think we've got a country winner this year, like it or not. Probably Will (the Adele song "Rolling in the Deep" was amazing - reminded me of Jace Everett a bit).

I thought Triston's version of Go Easy on Me was completely asleep. No emotional coherence with the lyrics, and that's a VERY straightforwardly emotional song. I was a bit shocked. Am I alone in this?

I always find your commentary very interesting… Nobody that I ever thought should win the show has won the show… But that doesn't stop me from rooting for Jack… And maybe Willl also… they thrown out anybody else I cared about... but I always thought it was because I wasn't a musician or a singer and I just didn't know what I was talking about… But the thing is as an audience I know what I like

My criticism for Emmy is that it feels like she’s having to learn the “I’ve got to not be timid” lesson every week. It just doesn’t feel like she’s improving as much as everyone else.

Some of the greatest vocalists in every era sang dance music. Donna Summer alone has more than enough powerhouse vocal songs to be it's own night on Idol.

Abi is my fav. Will is second. He just sounds like he should already be on the radio. I really like Emmy, and I can't believe they've pushed her towards Jewell!!!! I think she would kill Jewell's catalog!

As soon as i heard McKenna talk at her audition, i knew i was gonna like her singing style. I didnt like it... i was freakin spellbound by it. Deaf tone people just dont get. Im guessing their music preferences are basic and mainstream. McKenna has that ability on stage to never look away, pull u in and make u feel every lyric she sings. That sultry, smokey, rasp and cry in her style are more of a rarity and those singers are the ones that cut right through to the bones. I expected McKenna's run on Idol to end at top 5... because the voter base is more represented by country and belting pop singers. But millions of people know exactly what makes McKenna so special and those r my kinda people. Im glad she stayed in her lane and didnt try to sing more dancing, upbeat fast songs that just aint her. Makes me appreciate her even more. Im not excited anymore about Idol, but ill be rooting for Abi now.

If this popularity contest isn’t over already it will be if either Jack White or Lukas Nelson shows up to sing Van Lear Rose with Emmy!

Love Jack! He's my winner! He's been more consistent than anyone else imo and he can sing anything! Can't believe Mckenna and Julia got cut! Should have been Tristan and Emmy imo. My top five, Jack, Abi, Will, Tristan, Emmy. My biggest disappointment of those who have left was Mia Matthews. I think she has something special and we will see her in the country music world eventually. She's a little unpolished and inexperienced but I think she's got IT! My contestants that I choose never make it either so don't feel lonely! I am shocked that Jack and Abi are still here because they were two of my original choices. But I think you can safely expect Abi to win because she is blowing Jack out of the water with you tube views. I think if Abi were to not win she will still be picked up by somebody because she is amazing and current. That being said, Jack is still my pick!

I will miss Julia and also will miss McKenna's unique tone. Jack was almost Michel Buble style with his suit and calmness in the Adele dong. Abi still the best though I think Evervescence was her best performance.

My favs of the night were Abi & McKenna’s Adele’s songs. I really liked the start to Will’s Adele song w/the dramatic lighting and cool guitar…he should’ve held onto that a little longer. He did well this week tho. I can’t quite figure out what kind of artist Jack Blocker will be. He seems retro rockabilly; maybe he’ll revive that whole 1980s Stray Cats vibe? I think his concerts would be lots of fun. Out of the Platinum Ticket winners I feel like the last few weeks Idol has put A LOT more effort into Abi’s stage show (smoke & fire) than Julia’s. Kinda obvious who they’re pushing.

I’m not saying Emmy is bad, but why is she still here? Is it really just because of her grandmother. Emmy is GOOD, but McKenna should’ve been in over her. McKenna almost always has some of the best performances and she makes me FEEEEELLLL!!! She also has a unique voice. I’ll miss McKenna a lot.

My personal issue with this season isn't the fact that the best singers are gone, because my absolute fave this year was Kayko (who was good, but far from the absolute best vocals of the year), but more that taking risks doesn't pay off while playing it safe and doing samey performances each time does, which makes for a not very interesting show. Because I admittedly didn't like Julias performance for the "songs that make you feel like dancing"-part, but I'd rather see someone trying something new and fail than see someone phone it in. And there's a lack of energy in most of the top 5, a lack of that feeling that it really matters to them, and I felt that from Jayna and Roman and Kayko all the time. Of the top 5 I feel like Jack and Abi is the ones that are the most interesting and my hope now is that they get to the finale because I would personally be very bored from a Triston vs. Will top 2 that seems more and more inevitable.

Clark, the show hasn't been about "best singer" in years. You should know that! And especially with the live voting the past few years. People are literally voting before the performances! So it doesn't matter if one has a bad night, like Triston did. Or a great night like McKenna did. It. Doesn't. Matter. It is now a popularity contest and with a large voting block of Country fans. Mark my word, it will be a Will and Triston finale. p.s. It is very difficult for a girl to win Idol anymore.

First of all, Clark, I’m pretty sure you had Jack at number 1 two weeks - and it had me so scared for him lol. And Will is still in it, because you keep putting him last. Just joking about Will - I feel he is who he is, and he is doing great at it. Triston (and I hate to say this about a 15 year old) I have been losing something the last few weeks. I would be interested in what his future sounds like. I think Emmy has been getting so much stronger and has a special tone and lane. Abi is great, of course! I would go to a concert by Jack before Abi, but would probably buy her album first. I am really sad to see McKenna and Julia go, as they were two early favorites of mine. By this point of the competition, super good people go home.

I hope that Julia will continue on as a solo artist. She's a powerhouse vocalist and I think she could become a big star. I worry because now that she's off the show she keeps posting with her boyfriend and talking about how they'll be putting out music together. She does singer songwriter more low key type music with him which is nice for them, but I worry he's going to hold her back.

I don't get Abi. Julia's Something In the Orange, Jack's Always On My MInd, and Mckenna's The Story, I still remember (from the top 7), but I don't get Abi. I also, don't get Emmy. I'm trying not to be too set in my likes/dislikes, but there you go...

very generic cast this year no real standouts. Abi has the best voice of the remaining contestants, but Will Mosely will win even though his win is predictable and will just boringly remind everyone of the bible belt's hold on this show. I like Jack and am psyched he's still in the competition and sticking his nose in the fact that the judges really have to clue how to identify talent. He'll also carve out a creative niche in alt-rock, alt-folk that I'd really be interested in following.

I love your commentary. But for some reason I can’t get on the Julia train. She’s got power and emotes well, however I find myself losing interest. I think Emmy needs to get off idol and go into a studio- do some writing and recording in a comfortable place. She’s hard to watch perform on the big screen. (Though her look was fantastic last week) Abi’s got it all. But I’d like to see her dig a little deeper into her own story. Maybe it’s a bit late in the game. Will and Triston make sense for the way the shows been since good ol Scotty

Oh God don't pick Abi as your #1. If she goes next week you are going to get blasted. She is my favorite. Sorry don't think Emmy is that good but then over & over the country singers go through. So over oh she's shy that the judges always bring up but she went through and two good female singers went home. Triston is the country & teenager favorite so he might win. I really wanted a girl to win this year. I think Will should be #3.

Jack is the class of this show. He is very versatile (as opposed to Abi's same performances) and has the voice to suit each genre he's mastered. They make him perform first because they know he'll fire up the crowd so Abi can ride the draft. The judges seem to be doing what they can to promote Abi. I like Abi; she sings well, but I can listen to a song or two from her and probably hours of Jack. The show needs Jack to be the A. I. I'm afraid they'll have another disappointment in Abi's future, as good as she is.
