Simon Belmont may not be the first Belmont in the timeline but he is the Belmont that introduced many players to the horrors of Castlevania, picking up his families legendary whip and hunted the night. With him being the first Belmont in the series Simon also acted as a blue print for the series going forward in more ways then just design.

@@blumiu2426 i disagree with that. The belmonts are superhuman so age likely wouldn't have the same impact as a strength sapping curse. Christopher would be able to at least retain some of his prime strength through regular training

@@d.n5287 You're allowed to disagree, but you're just giving speculation on the matter. I agree aging wouldn't make him like an average middle-aged man, but that's stating the obvious. No one thinks an aging athlete is the same as aging average man. However, compared to the supernatural creatures he's fighting, Christopher is going to struggle more. Simon having his strength sapped I think would be more crippling too, but I never was debating a childish concept of "who has it worse". I was pointing out both took on a challenge in compromised positions. Recall that Belmont's usually retired by Christopher's age as Soleil was in process of inheriting his father's place. And you can't retain your prime past your prime. If he's in his 40's, he's well past the diminishing returns point as that starts around mid 30s. Both Belmont's took on feats in conditions unexpected and still overcame them. People are taking Christopher being the first to do certain things as a slight against Simon. It's irony because for the longest time people thought Christopher was Simon in the West.

You need to look up the games again. He didn't in Belmont's Revenge, but there were like 4-5 stages in the first place. More a limitation on the handheld it was on. Crazy thing too is that Simon is really one of the strongest Belmonts. He killed Dracula twice, technically three times and once even while severely crippled by a curse. What's crazy about that is that Simon didn't inherit the Belnades' aptitude for magic like the other Belmonts after Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades merged their bloodlines in marriage roughly 100 years prior. So, Simon relies solely on his whip and combat abilities rather than any magic. He and Christopher Belmont are the only two Belmonts that defeated Dracula twice, and Simon did it only with his whip and instincts.

personally, I believe the reason the currency for subweapons being hearts is because the subweapon itself is a spell, and the Belmonts are capable of alchemizing their own blood in order to create these weapons to better play into their history in alchemy, and they would be finding 'hearts' as a way of basically saying they've found more blood for their body, and you would find such easily within a vampire's domain. the amount would likely represent how much they can spare before going into lethal territories.

Something i think is also really cool about Simon is how comparing him to Trevor, his main inspiration, ended up painting a surprising picture of his actual personality that was somewhat carried forward into future games Trevor is regarded as a legend not just for being the first man to slay Dracula and restore honour to the Belmont name, but also for travelling across the land and saving villages and people from Dracula's forces before ever making it to the castle despite their previous persecution of his family, giving the idea that's he an honourable and kind hearted man but when Dracula was revived in Simon's time, he immediately rushed to take on the castle by himself and did so, but it resulted in him being cursed from his wounds and pushing him towards death Comparing the two, Simon is painted as an almost monstrous force, but one that doesn't really stop and is the most dedicated to Leon's rage filled cause. Even his appearance in non-mainline games like Judgment and reimagining in LoS carry this unstoppable but slightly headstrong personality for the character, and it shows that he's not just the face of the Belmonts for his actions but also how he embodies both the best of the family but also the worst, being their one-man at a time centuries long crusade that both curses the rest of the Belmonts like Christopher and Richter, but also makes the world too reliant on them (at least that's how i interpret it)

First timer in ur channel here! I am one of the biggest fans of Jonathan Joestar, and Simon by extension. They gained their powers by pure training, discipline, and sheer fucking will. Similar to Jonathan, he is the powerhouse of his bloodline; not gaining them because of heritage, but because they sweat their blood and soul in their training. No magic spells and skills, no buffed ghosts with funny poses that punch far beyond the speed of sound, just unflinching determination. And yeah, other Belmonts may have also had similar training, but as we have seen in later entries, they already have knowledge and exposition to their powers, and gained many abilities from their ancestors, making their grueling quest of killing Mr Tepes easier and easier, like we saw with Richter (and Joseph in the case of JJBA). But oh well, kids are meant to overcome their parents (also the consoles, LOL), I mean, look at freaking Juste, that dude is a walking nuke! _He shines!_ An interesting point is that he may have magic abilities due to the Belnades inside him, as you said in the vid, but he never used them. Now, console limitations aside, maybe there was no one to mentor him? Was the knowledge lost at the time? He was unable to use magic? We'll never know. The former, because an adaption of Simon's story is nigh impossible, as nowadays, selfless, altruistic heroes like him, Jonathan, Superman, Cap and many of the old guard are vilified as "boring" and "uninteresting" and would get either He-Man'ed, or transformed into something unrecognizable, as many of the characters in Netflix's Castlevania adaptation, because Heaven and Hell forbid a strong, altruistic, straight, cis male get any kind of exposition , but I digress. Personally, I prefer Simon not to be adapted, to be kept as he is, a Myth, a name that just by being uttered brings despair to the very creatures that do the same exact thing to mankind, a beacon of light that shines in the distance and pierces the darkness. A figure everyone looks up to. But above all else, a man, a mere human who did everything he could, with the only resource available at his time, being his body, to save everyone. Instant sub and bell activated, gonna check the rest of your content. Keep killing it bro!

The Simon Belmont animated story could be made with the Simon's Quest Curse on the Belmont Clan and tied to the land. With this Simon whom had decided to strengthen his body to not depend on the magic in his Belnades blood being the source of his strength, he becomes the legend that he is as a template for his descendants, and a proud staple of his ancestors. Perhaps, even when given a partner in his story he embarks on his quest alone pushing himself to the brink to cure not just himself of the Curse, but to heal the land that is tied to his demise and the return of the horrendous creatures of the night. I guess Medusa, a possible reincarnation of Camilla can be the Antagonist Vampire, and even though Simon is alone, he will need perhaps hidden assistance or even training by maybe Alucard and part of his Belnades family members. The story should be handled with Simon tied strongly to the fate of the land and the rise of the creatures of Darkness, and perhaps instead of raising Dracula (based on the animated story) what he raises is the Dark side of Dracula, not Dracula himself, the entity created by Chaos and Evil that was part of Dracula and became separate and sentient after Dracula was resurrected with his wife.

Simon not having magic in and of itself isn’t true. Simon has magic, given that he is a Belmont, all Belmonts previous and after all have Holy Magic innately coursing through their veins. Sypha’s marriage into the family made the Belmont’s innate magic much much stronger. Which is what makes Simon even more terrifying, he has the already insanely powerful Belmont blood coursing through him, and then that was mixed with the insanely powerful Belnades blood as well. But with his lack of understanding of how it works, even though it’s natural so he could still do “Crash Attacks” much like his ancestors could, but his main reasoning for not doing so was because he wanted to prove that he was worthy enough to be part of the Belmont family. Especially since he grew up on stories about Trevor Belmont, who was not only the first Belmont/Person to kill Dracula, but was the first Belmont to get the Belmonts out of their exile, and since Soliel got mind controlled, which in turn got the populace to turn their backs on the Belmonts again, Simon, just like Trevor, wanted to prove to the populace that the Belmonts could be trusted. So, not only does Simon have the combined bloods of two extremely powerful magical families coursing through his veins, but he instead decided to train physically so that he could be even stronger. So, Simon was already extremely powerful, but he felt like he needed to be even MORE powerful just so that he could regain his families good reputation back and so that he could be heralded as a hero. But, his thought process changed after 1698, when he almost died. He realized that he brashness and need to prove himself almost got him killed, which is why in Grimoire of Souls he’s much more humble, especially when it came to talking about Trevor, as again, Trevor was his biggest inspiration. Also, as for Richter, he didn’t necessarily curse the family Bloodline, as he was still able to use it, as we see him doing a year later in 1798 during the events of Nocturne of Recollection. And despite being embarrassed about it happening, he still held his head high and didn’t let anybody disrespect the family. The Belmonts gave up the whip however due to the Nostradamus prophecy, which had been known by the family ever since Trevor was around his 60s or 70s. Richter more than likely didn’t give the whip up until Alucard told him too, since after the events of 1798, Alucard studied up on how to permanently kill his father, which was linked to the Nostradamus prophecy, which said that the last Belmont to kill Dracula needed to give up the whip since the Belmonts couldn’t be allowed to use the whip again until 1999, which was when the whip would’ve been given back to the Belmonts, through Julius.

Funny thing about Simon, he is, as far as I can remember, the one Belmont who wnyt through without any direct help, Leon had Rinaldo, Trevor had everyone lol, juste had maxim (kinda). Richter had Maria, I cant remember if Christopher had assistance. But Simon did it all on his own. Tho I may be mistaken. Not to mention the fact that he took on Dracula and his minions whilst basically falling apart due to the curse.

It's because they want to use Alucard as the linchpin between the different eras and he doesn't appear in Simon's era. Hence they skip Simon over. The actual priority here is Alucard, not Richter or Maria, just like in the first show it wasn't Trevor or Sypha. They adapted the Castlevania 3/CoD era since that's where Alucard made his debut. Now they skip over to the Rondo of Blood/SoTN era since that's where he makes his next canonical appearance.

I do think it would be harder to make a compelling story for a walking power fantasy like Simon than it would for Richter, who already has more going on. So in my opinion, it's a good choice. After all, we wouldn't want them to sully the image of the straightforward Simon.

@@evangedeon2194 Trevor is every bit the walking power fantasy that Simon is and they gave him an... interesting makeover. To the point where Netflix Trevor is nothing like game Trevor. This isn't about Simon or Richter or their specific stories, it's about Alucard. They are skipping Simon solely because Alucard doesn't show up in his era. @@claytonrios1 I'm not optimistic about Richter's adaptation, especially when he's placed into the French Revolution for no reason whatsoever. Netflix doesn't handle settings and dates well at all. For example, it tried to set the first four seasons in Wallachia, only to make Dracula not be Vlad the Impaler, thus completely losing any reason to set the series in Wallachia as opposed to Transylvania. The series also repeatedly used the Catholic church as an antagonist, even though Wallachia in the 1400s was predominantly Orthodox, not Catholic.

I allways thought hearts was a refrence to the church, just like in the standard 52 deck of cards with the suits being nobility(spades), the merchant class (diamonds), the peasants (clubs), and the church (hearts). Here they mean something like the love of or for God. In castlevania, the weapons are things like crosses and holy water, making me think the hearts are to represent faith in God, and/or love. This also explains why it is found in the lights that illuminate your dark journey, making it less literally collecting something, and more the abstract invigorating effect of glimmers of light, that may bring sparks of hope, that empowers the struggle against the forces of evil.

Simon truly was a beast of a Belmont and the design makes sense when you factor in his ancestor, Leon Belmont. Leon was a baron who waged holy wars but abandoned his duty, lands, and title to save his wife who had been kidnapped. In his quest he gained the Alchemist Whip the predecessor to the Vampire Killer. Upon finally saving his beloved he found she had been bitten and was about to turn into a vampire herself. There was no way to save her and the whip was to weak to do anything to a vampire but found from the whips creator that should he kill his beloved with that whip it would absorb her soul and gain the power needed. He didn't want to but she had overheard and begged him to do so eventually convincing him and having her soul bound to the whip, creating the Vampire Killer that Simon and all Belmonts down the line would use to destroy Dracula whom was also revealed to be Leons closest friend who made a deal with the devil to achieve immortality and cure his weak and ailing body

Symphony, the more beloved style? Maybe by some, but felt like the downfall of the series to me. I always felt the journey through the countryside to reach the castle in Super IV, Rondo, and Bloodlines was far more interesting and immersive than spending the entire game locked away in the castle. Symphony was great as a standalone, but also the beginning of the end of the pure gameplay style established by the first Castlevania, which was replaced by the same repetitive castle-crawl, accompanied by whatever new gimmick they could come up with.
