100 years ago, almost none of today's jobs existed. And almost none of the jobs that existed 100 years ago still exist today. No human being has the right to stand in the way of technological progress just to protect their own special interest turf. Technology makes production of goods easier which increases the standard of living for everybody. This is the way it's supposed to work. This basic level playing field between labor and technology needs to be appreciated and preserved. Nobody should ever issue a ban on any technology. If you can do better that it can, then all you need to do is demonstrate it, and there will be a demand for what you're doing. If you CAN'T do better than technology, then your job isn't necessary in society anymore, and you should find a new one.
@ebbyc1817

@@jedijones Acting and writing isn't a special interest turf. We all want, need, entertainment, that's why we're on KZfaq. Who creates it, people that create. Technology exists for us, we don't exist for technology.

@2Good2BeTrue45 11 ай бұрын
@jedijones sorry but that's sociopathic in nature. If machines end up doing everything and labor costs continue to get cut and people are being jobless en masse, then who is going to pay for the same goods and services these companies want consumers to purchase so they can continue to be rich and wealthy???? There essentially would be no more consumers at all. A.I and automation is not supposed to replace human beings. Everything in life is supposed to done under moderation and that also goes for so called technological advancements. People's lives shouldn't be just a number or seen as just a line of code, we are essential and intrinsic to existence itself and shouldn't have to compete for basic human rights, quality of life and to constantly feel under immense pressure to perform on superhuman levels and do things u heard of or essentially be left for dead on the street. This sociopathic mindset must end and im sorry but people like you with your mindset need to die out cause it's quite clear you don't value human life, much less your own. At the end of the day, we are all in this together. In order to A.I to even be as great as it can be, it takes money and maintenance to keep that going, far more expensive than it takes to keep a human being running and we are worth more than a machine ever will be.

She is so articulate, and correct. Greed is evil, but creativity is golden. Celebrating human creativity is important and treating people with respect for the work they do is important, executives are of very little value (often unpleasant people) and they can be easily replaced, copied, and extremely easy to better than. No executive in America has the value of one artists. I am counting street artists, and anyone in the arts in any way, ALL of them are better in every way then an executive.

@@endangeredspecies8441you are a fool. First of all, there is still fantastic art and media made. It depends on your tastes, whether you like Top Gun Maverick, Succession, Ted Lasso, Dopesick or into more obscure independent films/tv. In many cases, what you see and don’t like is because executives meddled too much, because of broadcasters and streamers have set requirements, because of greed requires them to sell more toys or merchandise. Writers and actors are working longer hours than ever before. They are being paid less than ever before. Ignore the $20m/film stars, these are the minority with significant leverage in contracts - this union debate is much more about all the non-superstar actors and writers on shows. Stop being an apologist for CEO’s who take home $30m+ / year, whilst actor and writer residuals have dropped by literally ~90% in the last decade due to streaming.

Good for you and your union supporters. Every impassioned word you spoke is all too true. Greed has corrupted and overtaken far too many industries from yours to retail to hospitality and beyond. We the workers have ALL the power needed to reverse this despicable state of affairs. Left unchecked, as corporations have been for far too long...the pendulum of equity has broken completely. If we do not use the templates that prove that all around benefits of fair wages and great working conditions provide plenty to all...then we must institute controls to achieve such goals. Profit sharing. Real accounting to provide real worker incentives and rewards consistent with their contributions to the industry that they build and maintain.

The American people have seen unions marginalized noticeably since the 1980's. The problems of Washington are symptomatic of what happens when working people have no prospects in the present and in the future. We can be easily conned into thinking the corporate elites are protecting us but make no mistake, if you work for a living, you are a worker. The corporate elite has crushed many unions; there are states where hotel workers have no unions, even teachers can lose their unions. Ms. Drescher has reminded us all what we have lost over time. Whose America is this anyway? Our biggest problem in the future is the income inequity across the nation.

There hasn't been a single strike by SAG or SAG-AFTRA where they didn't get the bulk of what they wanted. Studios have to give in a at some point because the public won't accept not getting new movies or episodes of their favorite TV shows. With the WGA on strike as well, AMPTP is over a barrel. Let's see how long it takes them to figure it out.

What they need is the Union for Technicians, Cameraman etc to strike in solidarity to ensure that even reality shows cannot make it air. The last big strike with writers and actors lead to rise of reality television 25 years ago, and that was the network's saving grace. Hit them where it hurts, If they want to starve writers out, starve them out first.

Bravo Fran! She is absolutely right when she says, that this goes far beyond the media/movie industry. I myself work in the offshore industry. How labor is treated there, is like slavery. And no, the salaries are far from what you would expect, especially considering the special conditions we are working in. But in our industry there is one other aspect - the safety standards are now worst than Oceangate’s at times. Thanks to greed. And who pays the price? The workers. And I am sure, that every blue collar worker in any industry/sector has a similar story to tell. Its time to stand up, and make Wall Street understand that they cannot exist without a strong blue collar foundation. This should become a movement throughout all blue collar sectors!

Now will the actors and writers ALSO fight to keep streaming services cheap? Because if their negotiated compensation is assessed and partly made whole via the profits coming in from streaming via subscriptions, then the companies will no doubtly look to raise prices for consumers. If those prices are too high consumers WILL consolidate and spend within their budget. My point, their compensation needs to come from where there is a surplus of money which IS at the top.

That's the studios fault. They made a huge mistake by allowing password sharing of up to 3 to 5 devices or people. I have Max, which is $15.99/ month, that can be shared and installed on 4 different households. They can make more money if they can cut it down to $6.99 per household × 4 = $27.96, $11.97 more in revenue.

Thank you Fran for standing up for what’s right. The lack of respect that We the people are given is disturbing. Retirement and 401k are non existent in this day in age because a lot of ppl can’t afford to think about the future when they are just trying to live day to day which is very difficult for a lot of us. And our government shame on them on both sides they are so busy putting money in their own pockets they have forgotten who put them there. This country needs a change from top to bottom. The amount of greed is insane and the money that 2 percenters have everyone can still be wealthy but we should not have one homeless person or child that is hungry. We can send a billion dollars to help others but we can’t help the ppl right here in our own country! I’m saddened by what will the future look like for our kids and their kids if we can’t figure this out now and get things on track.
