Jake Johnson (New Girl, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Self-Reliance) and Gareth Reynolds (The Dollop, also on New Girl) don't feel qualified to give strangers good advice. Most of their friendship over the last 15 years has been based around dumb bits, but they do (for better or worse) want to try to help people out. Like your friendly local bartender or your tipsy uncle at a family gathering, Jake and Gareth are on the caller's side and trying to help.

37:50 omg please do this kind of thing again!!!! I fucking love the authenticity and accountability and responsibility you guys demonstrate to the show and audience, even if it's stupid silly advice about stupid silly issues, both are very serious still emotionally to a person, it's only silly because from the outside we can clearly see how low the actual stakes are but can empathize with the ironic deep impact it has, and you guys take that dichotomy into account in your show and give dumb ass comedy structured advice from a couple of regular Joe's, but you give that advice very seriously, and make certain people actually do it and actually send some form or feedback/update, so the fact that when someone respectfully and kindly and calmly expressed a simple and understandable issue with the call, you guys showd the integrity and hutspa to go "okay fair enough let's make this right" and that's one of the things I know I love most about the show, it's not just dumb and gimmicky but it's also not just serious and formal, it's got it all and is done in such a committed and respectful way to not just the content but both you guys as creators, and us as fans/viewers/callers, so please please do more of these but as an opportunity to give yall some advice, make this the standard, only ever acknowledged the ones who were kind and genuine and honest like him and give them a moment like this, and then mention each time that you only did so because of how they did it and because you could see where they were coming from, etc. Much like how you make it clear you won't even continue the call let alone air it if they aren't gonna actually go through with it, and it shows just how much you honestly care about and prioritize the caller and if they truly feel a resolution, that's why it is now and will continue to be so so successful and why we love it so much and why I like the caller will be watching all my life

Wow, I didn't even mean to copy the line of giving yall advice when I made that comment I just paused as soon as the second half of the call started and made that comment 😂 can't help but notice that's as interesting a coincidence as the fact they split calls and the solution being slpitting the call, in a call that would make a great segment he recommends one you're doing on patreon already and before hearing that moment I pause to make my own recommendation to make this into one lol

The entire premise being two drunk guys in a bar “solving” your problems, I think the second call was completely accurate. 😂 I appreciate the follow up; I know neither of these guys want anyone’s feelings hurt. The vibe was weird (relative to the rest of the show), but the sentiment was sweet and genuine. My advice though to anyone calling in: You are calling two comedians who recommend taking a dump on a pickle-ball court to deter night-games. Your call is to provide fodder for comedic bits. You MAY come away with decent advice, but ultimately if that’s what you’re looking for, maybe don’t call the clowns. 😜

Right? The second caller didn’t understand the premise of the show, I think. If this was a serious advice show then most calls would end with a quick “ignore it” or “just talk to the person” instead of any goofy hijinx.

Gotta say, the Jake “sinking ship” bit was comedy gold and the caller was a part of something fun. While I can appreciate him not wanting to name drop, I think that the way to navigate those feelings would involve speaking up not leaving a sneak attack review afterward. Saying “I don’t want to name drop people, excluding people is what I’m trying to avoid” would’ve probably resolved the issue. No Real ill-will toward the guy, he’s obviously a very sensitive soul.

Huge fan of this podcast! Respect to the 2nd caller giving his honest opinion also. I did feel as though he was a little rushed and I do feel his question wasn’t answered initially. It was so nice of you guys to call him back, I have to say though that I find Jake a bit defensive. I feel like too much time was spent on how he could’ve phrased the question better. I think it would’ve been more effective if once you guys knew you had different interpretations Jake could’ve been like “ah my bad, I didn’t know you meant that” and then moved on to finding a solution. I’m glad you let him call back, it was nice to see you resolve his issue 😇

I think Jake’s reaction was quite normal given the timeframe of the situation and the fact the callers email felt a little… whiny? I mean for goodness sake he sent the review mere minutes after the call ended. The caller did say he needed help reducing the number of people invited, but if that wasn’t the main question then he should’ve spoken up. You can’t be the boat goat and not be able to speak up

Big time fan! Love the pod! But here's a critical pointer! Lately I also noticed, as the 2nd caller pointed out, that some calls at times feel kinda cut short or even rushed through. I'd say the first like 50ep, callers were really given time, creating not only comedy gold but also a feeling of satisfaction for everybody. Knowing how pod work, I still feel allowing 1 or 2 minutes at the end to really make sure who's calling feels satisfied it's the customer service side that really makes wonders when matched with the comedy bits! Aside from that, the concept, jokes and pitch delivery makes it my favorite by far!

I love the pod! But Jake's shouting on the 2nd call (albeit in good fun) became stressfull to me. That's a *me* problem, I know not all humor is for everyone. But I can relate to Brandon feeling a bit overwhelmed by the bit. Listening to feedback and being empathetic about the reaction is what makes these guys great. Please never stop doing this show.

I'm with Brandon. I literally had to skip the second half of the second call. Please, Jake. Start listening to the callers. I love Gareth so much I really don't want to stop listening to this podcast.

Much like how you make it clear you won't even continue the call let alone air it if they aren't gonna actually go through with it, and it shows just how much you honestly care about and prioritize the caller and if they truly feel a resolution, that's why it is now and will continue to be so so successful and why we love it so much and why I like the caller will be watching all my life 49:41 Wow, I didn't even mean to copy the line of giving yall advice when I made that comment I just paused as soon as the second half of the call started and made that comment 😂 can't help but notice that's as interesting a coincidence as the fact they split calls and the solution being slpitting the call, in a call that would make a great segment he recommends one you're doing on patreon already and before hearing that moment I pause to make my own recommendation to make this into one lol
