A good idea for a novel derived from this sequence of events could be based on scheming by Hawkish elements in the political and military leadership of the Federation. This could take up the story from the Klingon-Orion alliance of 2394 @ 4:40 With galactic war rumbling in the background - especially with the exposed involvement of the Undine - hawks in the Starfleet brass (with supporters in the government) are pushing for drastic changes. These hawks could resemble the personalities of Admirals Cartright, Benjamin Maxwell, and everyone's favourite potential military dictator Leyton.

Very nice! I am intruiged by the mention of Miral's kidnapping as part of the storyline. I can only boggle at the scope of Star Trek online's story- for a completionist like me, it's enough to threaten one's sanity- and I suspect there is a whole other set of Klingon missions that you haven't tapped into, as well. But if (assuming such a thing is even possible) you ever catch up with all the current content of the game, might there be any chance of a 'lost missions' series looking at some of these adventures that were in earlier versions of the game, albeit not there now?
@TymersRealm
@TymersRealm 4 жыл бұрын
The reason for Rick's comments about Miral Paris' stuff is those missions have been pulled when the first STD content updated, IIRC. Which sort of sucks. Most of those missions were fun and interesting. And dealing with the Guardian of Forever was a treat too.

The Miral Paris missions were pulled because the graphics need updated, they want to add voice acting to every mission, and a lot of people (including your humble correspondent) were experiencing crippling lag on the surface of Rigel IV, especially when facing away from the sunset (which is most of the way from the landing point to the building the diplomats were in). They may well be added back in later, if only because they explain why B'vat is no longer in the Council pushing for expanded war against the Federation. (I also wonder if it's going to turn out now that he was Undine, because I always wondered about that one line on Imaga - "There are no innocents. There are only the strong - and the weak.")

If you examine the situation post Dominion war *this whole scenario doesn't really gel with the state of the Quadrant.* The Klingon Empire was too weak to be a threat and wouldn't be up to strength for decades [Slone's _honest_ assessment] due to Gawron wasting so many resources (ships and warriors) when the Klingons were the only ones immune to the Breen damping weapon and had to hold the line themselves. And the Empire itself was still dysfunctional (Dax's assessment), Martok would be pushing for far closer ties with the Federation post war, using the argument that outside forces (usually Romulans, plus the Founders) keep trying to break them apart. He's right, and many Klingons also know deep down that their society is corrupt and he's the only leader in generations that didn't seek out the throne and isn't a power hungry manipulator. Any attempt to push Klingons and the Federation apart will automatically be assumed to be a foreign plot. Besides Martok likes humans and understands them, sometimes better than they do themselves. And the average opinion of Starfleet is good amongst the Klingons as they have demonstrated themselves to be formidable warriors that won the Dominion war. Besides, humans, being human, there'd be a lot of Klingon Human hybrid kids at this point. And Starfleet is so much tougher, the Defiant class is being mass produced and they have all that tech from Voyager to use if necessary (border dispute, a bunch of Defiant class ships coaxial warp in with amour generators that make them incredibly tough, plus Dominion Tachyon beams that make cloaks useless), plus whatever new developments they have come up with - Starfleet got a massive power up to the point that they could conceivably invade the Gamma Quadrant and win, they went up decades or even more in tech and have been battle hardened. The Scimitar incident would have also given them a scare and they would be even more militarily prepared. As well the Betazoids may be more militant after their occupation and full blooded Betazoid Starfleet crewmembers completely change the power dynamics, making subterfuge and cloaks incredibly difficult. The only other power that could possibly be anywhere near the Federation is the Romulan Empire, and they are about to be *_seriously nerfed._* The real situation in the Alpha Beta Quadrants is any tensions between the Klingon and Federation will automatically be assumed to be the manipulation of a outside agency (Romulans and Changelings will be the first suspects, but they will go down a list and the knowledge that 8472 did once plan to infiltrate is there), no doubt Section 31, and telepaths as well will be checking. And well, suggesting going to war against the Federation will get any Klingon who makes it killed as a traitor. Besides which the Empire knows that the new Starfleet would kerb stomp them and now has the will to do so … admiral Sisko?? So there won't be a breakdown in diplomacy, and Starfleet will automatically assume it's a trick and take the Undine suggestion seriously (fool me once…). And if they say to stop fighting, well the fighting stops because no local power would dare risk a confrontation with them (besides the Romulans trying a decapitation move, which Starfleet is now on guard against after Shinzon). So the Gorn roll over when Starfleet tells them to hand over the "rogues", and the Klingons stay their hand after the Hobus supernova if the Federation tells them to "think how great it would be for the Empire…the strength, to have the Romulans humbled by needing your succour". And now there's no one in the Quadrants that can even come close to Starfleet in raw military power. Plus it won't take them long to work out who's really behind it, Starfleet is also much more cynical and pragmatic. That's the most realistic outcome given the situation a decade or two post Dominion and the Undine/Iconian actions. Now let's wait for the Picard serious to make STO non canon.

@tomasr. 4 жыл бұрын
Funny thing, all your idea is based on affirmation of notorious liar Sloan. The Klingons will be doing very well, no doubt they devote a lot of industry to weapons and the rapid recovery of the army. In STO lore, after Hobus supernova, the klingons immediately attacked the Romulan Empire and seize several stars. The Federation did nothing. In 2409, the time of STO, the klingons are comparable in power with UFP. Both sides of conflict do not give even a third of what they could, and that conflict is limited to several border planets and colonies.

To me, exploration was the heart of Star Trek. Other than entering fluidic space, what is the final frontier in Star Trek Online? I remember Geordi modified censor arrays, resulting in trans-dimensional abductions by creatures who made clicking noises. I wonder if Borg, Klingons, or other major powers ever encountered them. Perhaps trans-dimensional travel is the next frontier. Q seemed to hint at this. I think that might have been the episode Q gave the Federation a sneak peak of the Borg. Furthermore, Q said something about wonders that await. I always felt TNG fell short of Q's promise. TNG always seemed more about diplomacy than exploration. Maybe STD will fulfil Q's promise. STO theoretically could too, though I haven't seen much of that. What made TOS great, was that there were constantly new adventures. The crew frequently encountered technology far beyond their own. There were frequently powers that toyed with Kirk and his crew. The Federation imposed their morality on others. Far more powerful entities imposed their morality on The Enterprise. It was always personal. Subsequent series captured what gave TOS its charm, through a single entity, Q. Yet, consolidating adventure to a single entity could not be further from exploration. TOS was just more alive than subsequent series. In addition to exploration, romance was what made TOS seem more alive.

No, if the Klingons had actually provided evidence and not had a known history of being warmongers willing to fabricate excuses for war, the problem could have been avoided. The Federation was right to not trust the Klingons claims; they make wild claims and get angry when pressed for evidence and are known to fabricate reasons to go to war (and were trying to start one with the Federation already). Recognizing the Klingons flaw and unreliability has nothing to do with being "smug and sanctimonious". It's debatable if most of the Klingons even believed their own claims. The Klingon after Ambassador Sokketh didn't seem to take it seriously, considering his claim was just a ploy to buy time for his own escape.

It did seem like The Federation was the only major power in the alpha quadrant after that. Also, Janeway traveled through time, causing the Federation to have a 30 year leap in tech. Which enabled a single ship in STO to take out a Borg cube. I remember in TNG, a Starfleet captain went rogue, and easily eliminated multiple Cardassian ships. Picard commented how much more advanced Federation tech was over Cardassian tech. I'd imagine by the 25th century, the Klingons would be even farther behind Starfleet tech, relatively speaking. Even their cloaking tech would be obsolete. With trans-dimensional censors such as those which caused abductions in TNG by creatures which made clicking noises, and subsequent exploration of fluidic space, cloaking technology would seem quaint by comparison.
@robertbarrows6687
@robertbarrows6687 3 жыл бұрын
@@InfiniteUniverse88 Yeah. The Dominion War left the Federation the only dominant power in the Alpha Quadrant, with the Romulans being relatively untouched in the War due to their late entry being the only one's capable of keeping up. The Klingon Empire was crippled. The Cardassian Union is eventually absorbed into the Federation. The Tholians become even more isolationist. Stories post-Dominion War where the Klingons can keep up really isn't feasible. Especially if they don't grow out of their Hat and begin diversifying. The only two powers within the Milky Way that can challenge the Federation are the Borg and the Dominion especially since post-Dominion War (hell in Picard too) the Federation probably has grown from the 8000 lightyear size to twice or three times as much to rival the size, economic base and industrial base of the latter two.

Don't you mean 2nd Klingon war? STD Klingork war *never* happened otherwise we would have heard of it in The Original Series but like Burnham, and the NX01 never existed. So it shouldn't be recognized by any actual Trek fan. Outside of that I like the video.

Martok thought the Federation would be down with invading Khitomer and the Gorn? Don't buy it out of character. The timeline after DS9 got STUPID.

Ahh yes, STO's 'story' The only thing more incoherent is STD

It's only incoherent because of missions that've been removed or rearranged to "improve the experience". If you can manage to play things in order and not skip around just to level up new toons to farm Dil or hold stuff, it's a reasonable story...except for you going from Cadet to Fleet Admiral in a year.

Sounds like very very bad fan fiction..... I'm glad I haven't wasted any of my time with the online game.

It seems like if a single Federation ship can take out a Borg vessel, the Klingons would be relegated to a minor power. Unless the Klingons somehow benefited from Janeway's time traveling. What was it, a 30 year leap in tech she enabled?

You got to have wars and big events to keep a playerbase. It's a fundamentally different medium with different needs to keep an audience.

Well it is said during the Klingon version of the Spectres alot of Klingon R&D is partially fueled by Starfleet leaving wreckage in space.
