THE LAST EVER
😔
It is with great regret & sadness that, due to circumstances beyond my control, I must announce the end of this series
For 8 Years we have been documenting life on board a ship in some of the harshest conditions on the planet. We have featured in everything from local newspapers to Hollywood blockbusters and other big screen productions.
We would like to thank you all for your support and engagement especially those in the oil industry who have support this page and seen their job from the other side, those who have submitted their own photos and films or taken part in our competitions. Our Bigwavemaster1 hoodies & polo shirts have been sent worldwide and Our Albert has become an international superstar.
We have all had a lot of fun and enjoyed sharing our experiences with you.
Please continue to support our KZfaq channel and take a look at at over 8 years of laughs and high seas drama with some of the largest waves ever recorded at sea.
All the best from Bigwavemaster1 captains, crews and cameo extras of both past & present. 🤗
Experience life at sea on board a North Sea rescue ship through the eyes of the crew.
An ERRV is an Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel. We are a dedicated rescue vessel to two oil platforms 100 nautical miles North East of the Shetland Islands.

@@Bigwavemaster1 Captain, do you know how thick the front windows are on the bridge? I image they are heavy and sturdy.
@Bigwavemaster1
@Bigwavemaster1 2 жыл бұрын
@@AgentRafa They're about 1/2" thick. The seas in this video are quite moderate compared to those some of my other videos where the windows take a real pounding. These days our boats are made to handle the sort of extreme weather we experience in the North Sea. Our vessels have very high bows and it's very rare that a lump of solid water hits the windows. This was not always the case. Take a look at the wave at the end of this video from a few years ago. By the way, I'm the 1st Mate, not the captain :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbZ-hLmCzNjbkqM.html

These are wonderful videos. I’ve only just found them and sorry you can’t do anymore. Still a whole back catalogue to go through. It’s great to see life at sea and how hard you all work, I have a fave in Albert who spends a lot time looking calmly out to sea as if he’s seen it all before but still is fascinated by it. I started my career doing accident analysis and human factors work at Warsash maritime centre so know how hard you all work. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Thanks for finding us. Albert tends to be a bit if a favourite and has become a reluctant, but not too reluctant, celebrity. I started putting the Month at Sea videos together while on my previous vessel as a way to show our families what we get up to. They started as 1 second a day but people wanted to see more of what was going on. Gradually the oil industry started to take an interest and I received request to show film of them at work so that their families could also understand the risks they took to earn a crust. Unfortunately times have changed and concerns have been expressed about my content. It has been said that I have become a victim of my own success 😂 Here’s some videos that may be of interest to someone of your particular sphere of expertise. kzfaq.info/sun/PLG-lkGl9kpwQ-yljvMU8c1py1gtFlHnZy

@@ManxAndy The night sights are ship’s equipment and very extensive. Not even in Albert’s wildest dreams would he spend money on such things though he would happily waste money on cheap crap that was not fit for purpose. @@Bigwavemaster1 "Office politics". Sad. In the last year, I've seen at least half a dozen KZfaq channels, covering the "behind the scenes" aspects of various specialty industries from manufacturing, to shipping to aviation, fall by the wayside due to "office politics" or policy changes. It seems like front office types just don't understand the benefits of sharing the wonders of their industries with a curious public. Thanks for all you've done. I was in Adak, Alaska, on a crab processor back in early 1980’s. On the Eastpoint working for Queen Fisheries out of Seattle. The Eastpoint was a 178 ft. long WW2 cargo (or something) ship, converted for crab processing. Pilot house in the stern. She was a real tub to look at, but comfortable enough to live on for a couple of months. After the King season was over, there was no more offloading, processing (cooking), freezing then storing in deep freeze holds. That took a month. Then we cruised up to Kodiak and stayed there for another month which included Christmas and New Year. It was a fun and interesting trip. The best part was the trip to Kodiak. It took four days (?) to get up there, and it was stormy seas, lots of rocking and rolling. Standing wheel watch, the ship would be in the bottom of a trough, nothing but huge seas coming toward, then crest the waves and you can see all around including other boats and their lights. Then down into another trough. Rinse repeat. The Eastpoint sported two six cylinder diesel engines. One was out of action, the other was down to four cylinders. That got us to Kodiak, piled high with crab pots. I finally got seasick on the third day not bad for a landlubber in his early twenty’s, grabbing for handholds as the boat constantly rolled. Captain Peterson, on the other hand, had his sea legs, walking down a passageway, him leaning one way then the other through a range of at least 40 (total) degrees, hands in coverall pockets. He used to say in a deep Norwegian accent “by got we’ll make a seaman out of you yet”. Good times.

That’s quite some story and gives you a good yarn to spin. Filming people walking down the companion way in rough weather is really hard to film. It requires being in the right place at the right time but not letting them notice that you are these. If they see that you are filming they either disappear or worse, start acting it up and ruin the shot. I’ve managed to catch it a few times over the years. We film some of the largest waves ever caught on camera. We work with 2 oil platforms that can accurately measure wave height so no guessing or exaggeration. Good luck with your interview. This vessel only works at one location NE of Shetland so the furthest we venture is Norway, Shetland & Aberdeen. Yes. The crew are great which is the main part of the job. This ship is a different breed from the one in my earlier videos that had the smashed bridge windows. Over the years a few lessons have been learned the hard way. Unfortunately there’s a downside and it’s far more difficult to film a decent sea from this one.
