The Lazy J 20 - Tweed Amp

4 жыл бұрынThis amp is a 2 channel, hand build, point to point wired amp, which delivers ca. 18 Watts into a 12”, 8 Ohm, Celestion Alnico Blue Speaker. The cabinet is built from finger jointed pine and covered with hand aged, lacquered tweed.
The amp is set up with a GZ34 rectifier and a pair of 6L6s in the power amp, and uses two 12AX7s. However, for a different feel and character, the amp will take a 5Y3 rectifier and a pair of 6V6s without the need of re-biasing.
This amp sounds like and works like a Bassman - just much better - and much lighter :-)

Merci pour ces instants de beauté sonore. Plus l’on change de guitare plus le son se réchauffe. Mais je préfère le son fenderien chantant et douçoureux du début. Question de goût e d’ambiance.

Comme c’est chaleureux et douçoureux. Au fur et à mesure que la guitare change cela devient encore plus chaleureux mais peu à peu on perd le son Fender du départ . C’est une question de goût. Mais merci pour ces instants de pure beauté.

The one major omission in the Lazy J videos is the price tag. If you have around $4,000 laying around, you can get one of these. Or, you can spend 1/4 of that and get a great, durable, reliable Fender tweed Deluxe. Boutique amps are rarely worth the price.

I try to offer solely amps which have a clean sound even at low volume. The Lazy J Amps are working like this :-)

It has a built in attenuator so you can get power tube distortion at a relatively low volume for home. If you live in an apartment where the loudest you can run a 5 watt champ is about 3 or 4 at night, you won't really be able to take advantage of the versatility of this amp.

@@jcsk8 It isn't point to point wired. It's an eyelet board just like every 5E3 circuit ever made. People always confuse point to point with handwired. The only point to point wired amps made today I can think of are Carr amps

@@jcsk8 point to point is when components are wired directly together with no board acting as an intermediary. You can also use boards like eyelet or turret which have holes or posts to wire components to. Fender general use eyelet whereas Marshall and vox used to use turret. These days most amps are PCB with tracks forming the circuit like modern circuits. All these can be hand wired if they are assembled by an operator not a machine or wave soldered.
