You pointing out how a color pallet doesn't equal sexuality makes me kinda happy. My main OC is pansexual, but has a pink, purple, and blue color scheme. I have thought multiple times that when I show her to the world one day, everyone will be confused on her sexuality, especially since most of the people she has any interest in are female, and not to many male or genderqueer characters.

Pony manes are just technicolor and shit in MLP because it makes them stand out, in comparison to if they were all colored like real life horses. Is why we don't have many ponies with earthy colors of coats or manes. That said... I am willing to die on the hill of arguing Twilight is bi for reasons beyond the mane claims. She may never fully and explicitly engage in sexual or romantic feelings for any mares, but it ain't gonna stop me from making a case for it.

I love that non-heterosexual characters are being normalized more and more in (children's) cartoons, however I dislike when authors suddenly reveal one's sexual orientation without any basis/hints, it feels so cheap and a pathetic attempt to get brownie points. Then of course the author's intention could always be for one's character to be non-heterosexual but either denied permission to insert the necessary hints (e.g. Gravity falls)or the author just failed.

I love that this show tries to be representative, and it DOES have its rep, but I see posts from animators for the series who say they apparently try to make the characters be fruity, especially in EQG, but I don't see it?? Not in the way they claim is all over the place. Except with Curlywinds and Wizzkid, Lyra and BonBon, and sometimes Rarity and AJ. But everyone else is hard to see. Like the Dazzlings were apparently suppose to have some relatable vibes to them for LGBT, but... how? And Twi and Sunset usually just feel like good friends, nothing directly romantic ever actually happens between them. Blushing does NOT always equate to romance or being gay.

I feel like for the analysis to make sense you have to consider the EG characters separate from their pony counterparts. Pony Twilight is straight (based on her canonical crush on Flash Sentry), Sci-Twi may be bisexual or lesbian; to my recollection she never showed any feelings for Flash Sentry. On a side note it would be mighty awkward for Sunset if she got into a relationship with Sci-Twi and started having feelings for pony Twilight LOL.

To be fair on the Twi point, a color scheme doesn't dictate sexuality, the moment you mentioned of side-Twi and Sunset doesn't seem to fit at all in context as 'romantical'. But.... I have to disagree on the scene in Rainbow Rocks. I don't personally ship them, but the scene could be lookked through other lenses, and it would still work *and* change nothing. The key point here is that unlike with side-Twi, it doesn't truly matter between Sunset and pony-Twi because they don't see each other a lot. Soo.. that's my only defence. Otherwise, I don't see it.

Speaking of 3:39, you didnt include this, i know (per say?), but not only gay characters, but G5 also has a non binary character: in the Bridlewoodstock comic, there is a pegasus named Cherry who goes by they/them and talking of non binary, she isnt the first. that honour belongs to Dust Devil the abada from the Season 10 FIM comics (i think Dust is the first confirmed)
