The Dells and one of my favorites by them--“The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)”--edited clips of a 1972 live performance dubbed with the 1971 studio released version of the R&B Top Ten hit.

I know everyone talks about Marvin and Jc, but The Dells were a master class for any group needing to know how to sing backgrounds. It is called “background” for a reason. The background singers sit in unison and sound as one. Tone same, volume the same, movements in riffs the same, and harmonies tight!!!!

Where are the men who can sing like this...
@kellymccain34033 жыл бұрын
Ashli Yett .....The male singers these days are pretty pathetic. They spend their time singing about stacks of money, tire rims, sneakers and video games. The Dells lead singer Marvin Junior (the big guy) loved women, and it is reflected in the lyrics of some of the songs he either wrote or co-wrote for the group, songs like "I touched a dream" and "Give your baby a standing ovation"are his tribute to women. For some reason we just don't see that in today's music, they are too busy calling women bit**s and h**s. Before he died Marvin told a magazine interviewer that women were God's greatest creation. That was a "real" man.May he rest in peace.

One of the greatest voices of any generation is not even mentioned in the annals of the greats, in the hierarchy of singers. His voice levitates you to a place in the English language, too poor to describe. Now is the time to rise up and gave brother Marvin Junior his due. This brother never stopped being great, we stopped being grateful. It is raining outside, and we are crying inside, because we fail to capture the magic of this unapologetic gifted voice. Trumpets should be blaring...let the cannons fire. Let the balloons fly. Let the bird of truth reside. Let the Heaven fall from the sky. Just keeping singing Brother Marvin in that heavenly choir.
