Panasonic is so good about long term support it’s actually insane. They could have held most of these things for a new camera and instead we get it for free

First time camera buyer here (S5iiX), I really appreciate them doing these updates. Its things like this that will make me a lifetime user, especially since I wont be chasing the crowd by buying the newest camera body every product cycle (I'm only a hobbyist).

You've been single-handedly selling me on the s5ii/s5iix.. is that a Wendy's candle?

PRO TIP: Don't forget about the firmware updates for your LENSES too! Once this body update is released, be on the lookout for the corresponding lens updates... They did this for my GH6 and the AF went from "just ok" to "almost PDAF level". I can't even imagine how good the AF will be once the body AND lens updates drop!

E mount compact primes are what stick me to Sony but all that you said plus the great 1.4 L mount Sigma primes make it hard to not switch. Thanks for nice video.

Really excited to stress test the improved autofocus.

Sony should really take a good look at this, those features are really making me jealous. I think there might be some big updates in the new cameras soon. Like they did when the a7s2/3 came out it was always the new generation of video features which they than rolled out to all the others. Now every model has at least 4k/60 10bit etc. For the next big I hope we'll get open gate formats that's so useful. My dream would be a a7v with similar features to the s5ii. Put the 33mp sensor in there but make it stacked. Then opengate/30, uncropped 4k60 and s35 cropped 4k120 should be possible

I’m thinking of going to the S5IIX from my Canon R6 for hybrid shooting, bc the video specs are so awesome. However, on the photo side, I’m hesitating bc the Canon AF & tracking is so good, I don’t want to feel I’m downgrading on the photo end. This firmware update definitely helps matters, but still on the fence. 🤔 Any suggestions?

how is the color reproduction on Lumix cameras? I've been pretty deadset on getting a Black Magic camera once I have the money for it because of the Image quality and color rendering (plus a slew of other reasons). However, seeing this makes me thing this might be another solid option?

Did they fix the terrible overshapening, the noise reduction build in or the digital noise when you plug a microphone? I have the s5 original and I don’t understand how any “KZfaqr” can find the difference between this 2 cameras in terms of image quality

Have you tested the touch tracking? To me that is the biggest area that Lumix hasn't gotten the AF working quite right. For interviews the AF is dependable 95% of the time, but its inability to track an object and stay on it prevents me from trusting it for b-roll.

My only major issue with the S5 II is the HDMI lag, even with sound turned off. I don't if it could be improved by firmware, but it really makes a fantastic camera unwieldy when trying to use manual focus

Would you pick the S5iix or fx30 for first camera? I feel like the body+lenses+no crop is what is edging me towards the fx30 but other than that, s5ii.

I love the Lumix s5iix. Ive had no issues with autofocus. Love the colors, 6k open gate, Ibis is awesome. It's time to focus on the content.

As the owner of two S5IIX I can say the only downside of this camera is crop in 4k50fps. But at the same time, this made me learn to shoot most of my footage in 25fps which I think made my videography even better as slowmo was always easy way to make my videos more cinematic which is bullshit :D Now I plan my shoots better. Those are great cameras!

Lumix always takes care of its users. These new futures are in a camra body that cost less then 2k. The Proxy feature is a great idea. Make me smile as i have always been a Lumix user and said it would one day be a brand that would shin more then the Sony or Canon brand

I wanted to buy the Sony A7 IV, but I'm currently thinking very strongly about the Panasonic S5 II. I used to have a Panasonic G9 and even shot weddings with it. Autofocus almost never fails. How is it with the S5 II - especially if there is a group of people in the room? In my country there is currently a promotion - S5 II + Pana 24-70 2.8 for about 3000 dollars - should I still hesitate or?

Skipped that "preshot" for burst mode wich is a game changer functionality

Does it still have the annoying lag when you press the photo preview button? It’s so odd that such a big brand like Panasonic isn’t able to give its camera a quick startup time and the ability to preview photos without waiting a couple of seconds. It definitely isn’t the processing power holding that camera back.

does this update improves af in 1080p 50 fps and 100 fps mode???? currently it uses contrast detection af and its very poor in 1080p mode otherthan 24 fps in full frame field of view.

You're right about how quickly they update things with Lumix. S5 is no longer supported because they updated the whole camera.

I'm on the market searching for a full frame camera that will suit my needs, and I am personally torn between the Sony A7 IV and Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX. I have multiple E-Mount lenses. On the other hand, the Lumix S5 IIX open gate, HDMI output record 12-Bit RAW, and the SSD drive record features should be great to have. 😅

What I can’t understand is why DPreview gave the S5II/X a 90 Silver rating and placed it below the Canon R6II with a 91 Gold score. I have mainly been a Canon shooter but I cannot see how the S5IIX’s superior video features cannot put it in top spot, at the very least based on value. The only big advantage the R6II has is 4k60 uncropped. Not enough to overcome the S5II/X strengths IMHO.
