The mandible, or jawbone, is the only movable bone in the skull. The mandible is composed of two halves that meet in the front at the mandibular symphysis and diverge posteriorly to form a V-shaped opening. The proximal ends of each half are joined at the temporomandibular joints.

muscles of mastication are four muscles:
masseter muscle
temporal muscle
medial pterygoid muscle
lateral pterygoid muscle
the mandibular nerve consists of trunk divides into anterior and posterior division.
nerves arise from the trunk are nerve spinosus and nerve to medial pterygoid
nerves arise from the anterior division are buccal, masseteric, deep temporal and lateral pterygoid nerves.
nerves arise from the posterior division are auriculotemporal, lingual nerve and inferior alveolar nerves.
