Another one from the archives, where we compare and contrast how three nations tried getting a bit more life and value out of their aging bolt-action Mauser rifles by rechambering them for the modern 7.62mm NATO (.308 Win) round.
Here we have a Chilean M1912/61 made originally by Steyr, an Israeli Kar.98k produced in Czechoslovakia, and a Spanish FR8 that began life as an M43.

I love the late Mausers - I have an FR8 I purchased from you (thank you) and another - a FN Israeli (post war 7.62) - an FN Moroccan 7.62 - and a Columbian 30-06 conversion - they are great!!

I really enjoy the videos about the old bolt action rifles. Have a modest collection myself including an unissued TGF 1950 Mauser.

I have one Mauser rifle , a Chilean modelo 1912. Two groove barrel. My stock has dents and dings everywhere. Original sling but no cleaning rod. Mine is marked Steyr. Fun shooter, the two groove barrel works well with my home cast "boolits" and Hercules 2400 powder plinking loads. Thanks for the historical information on my rifle.

The Chilean Barrels were shortened at the shank, rebored and rechambered to 7.62x51 not 1903 barrels. They just cut 2 grooves riflings. Like the 03-A3 but not.

I appreciate that you'll make this type of video even though they don't get as many views.

Gonna have to try to get my old Spanish FR8 back. I also have an 1898 marked receiver Steyr rifle chambered in 7.7 or .303 British. Barrel marked 1950s with a cool muzzle device. Great video as always

I have the 1912/61 long rifle. The conversion was done bit differently on those. They put spacer in magwell, and removed barrel. Then, they shortened it from the rear, maybe half inch, and rebored to 7.62, and reamed for the chamber.

I saw one at a shop in late 2019. At the time, I didn't realize it was actual military surplus, I thought they were just commercial offerings.

always loved these! while on the topic of bolt actions, i just picked up a Hexagonal Receiver Mosin Nagant from 1933, made in the Izhevsk factory! came with approx 400rds of PPU's and Russian Silver Tips along with a handmade leather cartridge holder on the stock.. super awesome 😎

Thank you for sharing your awesome collection and extensive knowledge. You're making my OCD kick in with the title however. It's DUTY, not Duety. Thanks.

Are people in Serbia nervous about what is happening in Ukraine? How are people there framing what’s taking place? I’m just curious.

That Chilean Mauser is gorgeous. Can you tell if the refinishing is "official" or hobbyist? I sure do regret not buying up a few of the FR7s and FR8s back 20+ years ago, when they were cheap and plentiful. The trigger guard looks thicker and heavier than other Mausers, almost as if it belongs on a modern scout rifle. Are you aware if any "official" scout-type conversions? Are these Mausers still coming in occasionally?

That Chilean rifle is beautiful. Reminds me a lot of my M24/47, but with a much nicer stock.

My 1912 Chilean is a real accurate shooter. I can get 2" groups at 200 yards and I don't shoot it that often. Looking for the front sling hardware for a 1912 Chilean Steyr Mauser. Any suggestions are appreciated.
