I love that Auckland *finally* has a mayor with the courage to realise a grand-scale vision for the city. My only concern with the North Shore Rail link is that it completely bypasses the existing commercial centers, which are already clogged with traffic, and already have the population to sustain a profitable train line. (Devonport, Takapuna, Milford, Browns Bay.) It's fine to project growth around the route which hugs the Northern Motorway, but serve the existing population dense areas first.

So awesome! Lets make this happen!

This rail loop needs to happen. It will make trains go every 10 mins in the outer suburbs, eg papakura, ma urewa, swanson, henderson. Therefore making it more realistic to live in those places, rather than cram into the CBD, although this loop is also good for the inner city. Well done Len Brown.

This is an important development that is needed ASAP.

@philiproxs I think thats in the 2040 plan. In the next few years you should see high quality/frequency buses that link to Panmure rail station. Rail only takes 18mins from Panmure, while buses take twice that at least.

Its a start been saying it for years lets hope it actually happens being also German I know just how good this can really work for Auckland in time to come.

Absolutely need to be done, good on you mayor! Go or it. The Auckland traffic and current infrastructure is no good.

That iner city rail loop is extremely pointless there is already a train from mt eden to new market and britomart, there is also the iner city link bus which is free with hop and you can also walk/cycle.
