What an absolute joy this episode was, Amy! From the card at the beginning to the poem at the end. Your creations are gorgeous and I loved hearing how your dad would tape stories for you to listen to and how you and your niece bonded over LOTR. 🥹 I remember how much my son and I enjoyed His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman when he was a young teen. Texting him right now to reminisce.

Another fabulous podcast Amy, thank you. I love the colour of you top, I remember that Jess brought out the colourway for the 10th Anniversary . It has been really cold and stormy in the Edinburgh area, its great that you are getting the wear out of it witb layering it up. I really love Thegither cowl, it's fantastic how you have achieved the tartan look knit. I would like to knit one of those for my husband. The names McNeill and McLean are in our family . I used to work in Burberrys , The,Scotch House on Princess St when young . We wore a kilt and sold tartan kilts, and yardage. I'd like to knit one for my husband , I love the reds , just gorgeous. The stick sweater looks great too . I love how you and Rebecca incorporate Scotland into naming your patterns. You are both doing a great job, very inspirational. Thanks again and take care Xx

Thank you Amy! I love you're reading of the card and it feels particularly meaningful to me as I have recently quit my job and sold everything and took a 3 year position in the UK! As a divorced empty-nester who loves yarn, sheep, and most everything about the UK, It felt like a dream come true, but also a scary, risky move as well. And now here I am, listening to my favorite podcast in my tiny flat in the UK knitting away. You're podcast has really encouraged my adventure. Thank you again! And the Gither cowl is spectacular!

Thank you for another lovely episode. The poem was so beautiful, and the words ruminating in my mind, along with the music from the museum exhibit, was touching. It brought tears to my eyes as I think about some of dear friends. I love your brioche pattern, especially since I took an online brioche class recently and am declaring that I will become more confident in brioche knitting. Have a wonderful few weeks, and I will look forward to the next time. ❤

I have ancestors from the Borders, now I need to look up their tartan colors so I’ll be ready when your pattern comes out. I love your card reading at the beginning. And that deck looks lovely. I collect Tarot and Oracle myself, mostly for that very reason-potable art! I have put aside my 1/2 and 1/2 wrap which I’m knitting for my granddaughter to work on my Corrie In poncho. I love this pattern. I was also impressed with your Brioche shawl. Those colors are lovely. I hope you are planning to introduce this as a for sale pattern. It will be my first brioche object! That will motivate me to learn the stitch. November will be perfect. It’s my birthday month too! And this October will be my first Rhinebeck so I’ll buy my yarn there. I love this “new” color coding for one’s season. Way back in the day, 70s or early 80s (?) that was really big. (I was a winter, by the way). Then the whole thing went sort of underground. Now it’s back again. Sounds like it’s got a bit of a twist cuz I don’t remember a “sultry winter” category. Loved the poem. Thank you.

Another lovely thoughtful video. Love the new tartan design, stunning. Audio books are great when knitting too, though at first I would either miss some of the book or make a mistake in my knitting. Great for something like the garter stitch wraps. Stephen Fry is my favourite voice, but Philip Pullman is a very close second. The Coorie In is going to be my get ready for winter knit. I am so looking forward to it, it will be fabulous to wear walking on the beach here on the south coast of Australia in winter. No snow here, just terribly windy!

Thanks for your podcast! After your last one, I watched The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. When you said you were going to watch, I thought oh! Why not! And so I did. I certainly see why they are a popular re-watch. Such a lot to them. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion! Very enjoyable. Somehow I had never watched them before (and I’ve been around a long time, now) and now I’m checking out His Dark Materials on Audio. I’ve watched 2 of the three movies but the books are often well worth it. So thanks for that suggestion! 😂 all the while knitting knitting. 😀

Hi Amy, if you do the three needle bind off differently it will be less bulky: you knit in the front stitch and purl in the back stitch, both sides have the knit side of the stitch on the side you do the bind off and the purl on the other. so you don't see a purl bump with its bulk.on the bind off side. I hope this explains it enough. Beautiful cowl! 30:59

Thank you for another lovely podcast! I’ve knitted the Albion sweater for one of my sons too. He’s also very hard wearing on his sweater 😅. I’ve also knitted the Fort sweater by Brooklyn Tweed for both my son and my husband. In this pattern the possibility of knitting elbow patches is given. They suggest using sock yarn with some nylon in it. You might try this for the new sweater 😅😂. Of course you could also consider leather elbow patches like in the old days😊

I am so excited for the Thegither Cowl! I love how the same three colors can shine so differently in the different sections. And, I love the way it lays with the double twist! Your son is going to love the Stick Season pullover, it is gorgeous, and clearly he loves his knits. I just cast on a self-drafted colorwork cowl with a burdock design I created, but it will be sitting for awhile. I am heading to Ukraine next week to volunteer for a little while. I've got a pinstripe cowl that will be my plane knitting, and yarn for some mitts & maybe a hat too, that will be in the suitcase to keep me happy in the downtimes. Thank you for this episode!

Ahh. Thegither looks amazing. I just ordered knitting for olive to do a Simon cowl from Twinset & Purl. I’m very much in a ‘knit all the things’ head space lately. That said I’m very proud to have cast on some slippers last night. Feeling nostalgic for slippers my mum made me as a child was the start of my knitting journey in 2019. Although I’ve knit several pairs of socks, I never knitted the slippers until now. I saw some Instagram post that all the planets turned direct on the 27th…maybe that’s why I finally cast them on. Thanks for the podcast episode, card, and poem.

Your tartan cowl is *wonderful*! I'd love to be a test knitter for it. Do you have a place for test knitters to apply? Having been draped as a "Winter" way back in the 80s and then as a "Type 4 in Carol Tuttle's system (very similar), I knit and wear the colours that you have been told suit you.

Love your tartan cowl! Just wondering why you aren’t just spit splicing your Drops yarn as it is non superwash as that would be a lot easier?

hoping that you don't let the label of Winter steer you too far away from the lovely autumnal golds and rusts and etc. you've been so drawn to in the past -- i actually think they suit you much better than the Benetton-esque colors, if you don't mind my honesty. and knitted tartan, what a fabulous idea! i wonder if i could put my own family's colors together (we're in the Buchanan line, so beautiful bright reds and greens and yellows).

I would so love it if you would put the chapter time markers to mark the different segments of your lengthy videos. Thank you!

Hi Amy, lovely podcast again. Could you share the amounts of linen quill you used to make your Soho Square please? I did look at Rav but couldn’t find the project on your page.

Yes - no project page so far! But I used the quantities specified in the pattern. 2 skeins for each MC and 1 skein for each CC.

Apologies if mentioned elsewhere, but can you tell me the name of the music over the final footage? Love your work!

Amy, that was a beautiful poem. It resonated with me seeing that I am planning a sunny get away with my friend. Can you tell me the name of that and who wrote it?

It’s Fiere by Jackie Kay. I have a link in the show notes which will take you to the poem over at The Scottish Poetry Library website.

Question: I'm going to plan my yarn for this project. Does this use one skein of each color? In DK weight? thx!
@AmyPalko

It uses 3 skeins of The Scottish Yarn Festival 4ply which is 350m per 100g.

So enjoyed your podcast! Lovely for the quiet time for knitting in the late evening. Listening to you reminds me of my mum and that I need to text my auntie to see how she is doing. My mum and her family were from Edinburgh many, many years ago. I have some family still in Great Britain. Loved your tartan cowl. Will have to add that to my must knit list this year. Love the poem at the end. Thanks you 💗🧶
