The missing color-grading video is now the found video.

This video is old. But I haven't been able to make videos for a long time and found this one, that I actually dumped and made another one. But after seeing it again, I forgot why I thought it was bad. It is about the steps of color grading and very much along the line of the one that is already uploaded to this channel. The camera is the Fujifilm X-T3, but it will translate to most cameras anyway.

@4:13 the RGB parade isn’t for saturation, it is a 0-100 IRE luminance reading of exposure. The reason it’s high is because all of the brightest light sources in the scene are red/orange/yellow dominant. Also, when doing exposure adjustments in post you should really start with the highlights to put them accurately within the scope of their actual range. So “white” at 100ire or keep it around 90 to stay broadcast safe. Then do the same thing with the shadows, adjusting until you have pure black at 0-10 ire. Then set correct the global exposure with the mid tones. Easiest way being to just adjust the mids until skin tones are at 65 ire. It’s really only after that which you should start adjusting saturation or color tones. Lastly, HLG is a pretty specialized format and should only really be edited on its own timeline because it works in a different color space. I’d be willing to bet when you tried to import it on that timeline Final cut probably gave you a pop up advising you not to. Not trying to be a know it all, I really enjoy your videos. I just think it’s important that when people search for color grading Fuji video and this pops up that there are some worthwhile additional points made. Its probably a safe bet to say that you pretty much always shoot in the standard Eterna profile so this isn’t exactly your wheelhouse. Nor does it need to be as your videos look great with just lightly tweaked eterna. Be well.

Thanks for the input and you are right. But I think we approach it from different angles. It does affect the balance between the RGB channels, if one is more prominent than the others: But I think I did mention that there is a lot of reds in the scene naturally and one shouldn't be too concerned, because of what you said about the yellow, orange and reds. I use HLG in a little different way than you're supposed to. This video is quite old and it was my first time trying it. But because it has so much info, I used HLG for the Camera Punk film all the way through, to be able to pull it into rec709 colorspace and make use of the extended dynamic range, so I could bring out very defined shadows and very defined highlights. FCPX have no issues with that, and I can use the footage for both HDR 2020 and rec709 colors spaces if i want to. It's a bit hacky in thought, but works perfectly well IRL. But again. thank you for the input. I'll consider how I word these things in the future.
