Florida is a police state and locks up more then twice per capita as any other state combined. I get terrified every time I visit my Dad down there and all I do is smoke weed which is legal in most states. I don't lie, cheat, or steal but Florida will put me in jail because my brand of cigs are Cresco, Rythm, and Verano. Welcome the Florida where the lowest grade misdameanor will soon be 3 felonies and end of your life as you knew it.

From what I see online, a spot fine is a legitimate penalty in South Africa. "A spot fine is an immediate penalty issued on the spot for an observable traffic violation. It could be anything from an expired vehicle license to not wearing a seatbelt. The immediacy of these fines serves two purposes: Instant Accountability and Swift Action."

South African here. A spot fine is a legitmate term, but it refers to a fine that is delivered to you on the spot. If you receive a speeding ticket from a traffic officer that has pulled you over for speeding, that is a spot fine - as it is generated and handed to you on the spot as opposed to being mailed to you. If you are caught speeding by any form of speed camera, that fine is delivered by post and is not classified a spot fine. There is no municipality that allows payment of fines directly to the officer issuing it on the side of the road - for obvious corruption reasons that can be seen in this video. Just like a "regular" fine, you have a court date and you can opt to pay the fine before then too. "Spot" is only used to identify how the fine was issued.

When i lived in South Africa for a couple years, every time i got pulled over it seemed they were fishing for a bribe. I always asked for a ticket and when they refused I told them to take me to jail and my lawyer would figure it out. They'd always jusy throw me my license and tell me to leave.

We also have special "wreckless" driving laws. Those are for if you're driving more than 200 km/h, 100% over the limit or blow above a 2.0. Then they'll take your license, your car, give you a ticket equal to a months salary after taxes and 20 days in prison. And those are the starting charges.
