Out of all the different Ned Rig retrieves, this one has been the best. Not only does it catch bass, but it does a good job of locating them as well. Links to some of my favorite lures are listed below.

I found some jig heads with willow leaf chatterbait blades on them for soft plastics. Today I tried one in the saltwater and caught a croaker pretty quickly with a Berkeley Gulp tail. I recommend you get some of those heads. I have never seen a bait saim and hunt like that on a steady medium speed retrieve. It vibrates but not so hard like a normal chatterbait blade and when you pop it off the bottom it feels amazing. I wasn't in the best place to judge how it catches fish, it was too shallow and there was a lot of dead seaweed floating around. But from what I can tell it's absolutely worth trying. The hook wire is light and the attachment clip can't be very strong so I wouldn't use over 10 lb test with them. I'm pretty sure they'll slay bass with the right tail. A boot tail could work, but I had a ribbon tail on that looked really good. I don't see why a craw or creature bait wouldn't work with it for bass. Edit, it's called the Z Man Willow Vibe.

Steve, excellent tip. I think the Ned gets pigeonholed as a slow, subtle presentation when it’s actually pretty versatile. I think dragging it through the sand and the muck is a great way to get the fish interested and I mix in a few pops during the retrieve just to clean it off and maybe trigger a reaction strike. Cheers!

Great stuff. LowBrowFishing suggestion of a swimbait fish like a ned sounds great, particularly if you don't have a lot on rods on the deck. If rods are limited, my go-to is a Mud Minnow Ned from Z-man. It looks like a minnow, so I can do some covering water by just making it "swim" by imparting action with the rod tip and the retrieve.

@@jasonleon8788Oh, any, I've used trout magnet floats with the packaged instructions, classic mainline bobbers that hook onto the main line, addicted fishing floats, ones you fill w/ water, but my favorite way to float a Ned is with the main line tied to a wooden bobber. Tie your leader to the same eye in the bobber and you're almost fishing I just try to remember not to use too big a Ned head, more than 3.5g could possibly drown any bobber lol

Steve, Try this. At no additional cost, use TRD Tubez or EZ tubez and rig them BACKWARD on a standard ned rig jig hook. Shove the back end of the hook first into the open end of the tube followed by the jig head portion. DO NOT penetrate the hook through the elaztech. Instead, penetrate just the jig head hook eye through the elaztech near the tube tentacles. This rig is weedless, falls tentacles first giving erratic action on the fall, snags less readily on the bottom owing to the tentacles navigating the bottom instead of the hard head, and hooks up well when bit as the hook readily penetrates the soft elaztech. Try rigging your Zman Ticklerz and Hula Stickz backward, too, to get fewer snags of the lead head in rocks. Hope this helpz (LOL … not affiliated with Zman… juzt having fun).
@mistertwister1816
@mistertwister1816 Жыл бұрын
***I wanted to add that I’m aware of the other specialty jig hooks that Zman sells to make Ned rigs weedless ( i.e. Bulletz & Nedlockz jig hooks). These specialty heads still snag easily in rocks where the heads jam more often than hook points. The reverse rig minimizes this. Also, these specialty jig heads come at an extra cost of $$$ and storage space, whereas the method I describe above can be use with any common jig head, even a plain round head. No special keeper is needed. My thoughts.

@@SteveRogersOutdoors I'm talking about the approach rather than the tackle. Brewer's greatest contribution wasn't the 3" worm or the little Texas rig heads (although both are awesome)....it was how he fished. His "polish the rocks" technique is really a lost art, but if you can find a copy of the book, it'll help you refine this technique even further and you'll be making a presentation to fish people often overlook these days of electronic fishing to suspended fish. Ever get to SE Wisconsin in your travels? I don't guide anymore, but I'd be happy to teach you what I am talking about.
