I get relly sad everytime I hear about stuff like that. Insulin is super cheap to manufacture and most other countries with robust healthcare recognize the importance of it and makes it cheap and easy to get. In my country life saving medication is free if the annual cost would exceed $213. American health care and others like it are scandalous.

There is nothing more wrong than pricing a drug on how important it is, and not what it costs you to make + a typical additional profit margin. It's pure greed.
@Kveldred
@Kveldred 2 ай бұрын
I mean, you're not wrong; but - though this video may cover it later, only half done atm - what you describe IS how almost ALL pharmaceuticals are priced! E.g., in the case of Thiola & other price hikes, important context: → The company that made Thiola beforehand only managed limited production runs and often had none available: simply no incentive, as very few people needed it. → Hence, in more than a few cases, without a new company finding another use... or giving it a price hike... the medication simply disappears. Raising the price allows for more consistent availability - and in the case of Thiola, even then it _was still sold at a loss!_ → The pharmaceutical industry is my passion, ultimately - so maybe I'm biased, heh - _but:_ I think I've not *ever* seen a case wherein a pharma company does not make essential medication available, even when it requires significant losses. (Of course, this isn't *ideal,* obviously!) There are always programs for those who can't afford it, and the like, and 🤫 inside secret: → ...people don't seem to think of trying this, _but:_ if you send a heartbreaking letter about how much you love the company but you will unfortunately have to sing their praises in the grave because you can't afford their compound... ...they'll make it possible for you. It's good publicity, at relatively little cost; and, believe it or not, most of the people I personally have known in pharmaceuticals chose the field out of genuine love for healing and improving lives. Just don't call up ranting like a crazy person, heh, and they'll play ball - IME. _(FWIW, if anyone reads this someday and is unable to afford a vital medication here in the US, leave me a reply here. I can probably get you in touch with someone at most of the "big 6", esp. Merck or Bayer.)_ -------------------------------- People are really unaware how slim margins are in the industry: *1)* R&D is expensive, and less than one in a hundred compounds will make it all the way to the final trials; *2)* FDA approval has become immensely slow and expensive: we're talking a decade and $3 *billion* (with a b!); *3)* if somehow you manage to thread that needle, and spent billions, and brought a drug to market, _a._ how large is the patient population? developing a drug for a rare disease is essentially never profitable; and _b._ once you are actually producing the compound, it's only good for 20 years _at best_ - Indian generics will screw you outside the U.S. long before that, and the U.S. gives you two decades to recoup the billions spent... (...all the while you are subsidizing necessary drugs that aren't profitable at all and subsidizing patients that have no insurance and cannot pay full price, etc.) *tl;dr:* Big Pharma is a really bad industry to get into if profit is your main motivation. But, because our healthcare system is so messed up _(trick question: how many prices does a single pharmaceutical product tend to have, and who pays which... and how does this affect price?),_ and because it's such a vital, emotional area, people tend to have a more distorted view than they do of less-emotional industries with much higher margins.

For every Martin billionaire pharmabro fuckboy you have 100 companies that employ evil sacks of shit who would squeeze all the money they can out of you, treating you your whole life until you went bankrupt and died in poverty. The reason most medical care in the USA is so expensive is primarily because of the insurance companies, and since the ACA the government. Hospitals up charge when people have insurance, and the insurance companies negotiate the price Down. They send you a bill if you are uninsured, and little old you will have very little success trying to negotiate. An example of this is I was uninsured in 2021, and was charged 180 dollars for a Covid test, then was hospitalized because of pneumonia. I was billed 75,000 dollars, so I tried to contest it, and was told I’d be turned over to collections if I didn’t pay it. I could hire a lawyer and sue, but that would cost thousands more with no guarantee. What are the uninsured supposed to do? I tried to sign up for the affordable care insurance in 2014, and my deductible was going to be 6000 dollars, and it would cost me 350 dollars a month. I could not afford that at that time, so I didn’t sign up. I was then fined by my government for being uninsured, and they stole part of my tax refund. I was in such financial trouble I had no choice, but to file for bankruptcy in 2022. My credit is ruined, I live in a motel, and drive a 25 year old vehicle with no A/C in the hot and humid southeastern United States. On a positive note I found a decent job, and have begun to rebuild my life. I guess if I ever get sick again I’ll just go somewhere and die.

As someone with a fatal genetic disease (Cystic Fibrosis) I always get really ticked off about medical crap like this. All my medicines are rare. Like, only people with my disease take them, and there's only 30k of us alive in North America according to my doctor last month. That's SO SMALL in a pool of 579 million (as of 2016). Suffice to say, the drugs we take are not profitable. There's no "money making" reason to make medicines for my disease, at least not immediately, as research is a losing business. It's done to help save lives. It's a long, costly, and frustrating process for everyone involved that some people just do not survive the time it takes to make headway. Every breath I take, everything I eat, at any moment of the day, my life is controlled by the medicines I have access to, that's just a fact. And people that can do this to people that are so fragile, as I am, I have nothing but contempt for.

Case in point, at 11:58 the person keeps changing the magnification on the microscope with reckless abandon. I can only assume that you must change the height of the surface the sample is on to focus it and they just keep changing the lens until they get to one that is too close for the position of the sample, and it breaks the glass slide right before the shot cuts.

To get Escitalopram Oxalate, aka Lexapro, a medication I'm on, the most EXPENSIVE listing is $28.20, (also at CVS Pharmacy, amusingly enough.) Half that would be enough to last 123/62 years, depending on if it’s taken once/twice a day, and still cost about $34 million. $34 million that a poor soul that has to take the drug twice a day has to spend, and they still wouldn’t make it past 70. Hope the more-than-likely crushing debt was all worth it, had they not committed self-deletion well before. The only way to sell and make it real was to physically go into an office 4 hours away, and even then hours and hours on the phone, to never get anything done. I fix cars, I don't understand legal jargon that is meant to make it extremely complicated for normal people to even know how to get their money. Even my financial advisor is constantly trying to talk me out of whatever I want to do. If I take my money out, fees and penalties, making it seem unreasonable to use my own money how I want. There were even dividen checks from Merrill that had complicated language on the front that made them impossible to cash. And I'm sure it's all on purpose. If they treat everyone the same way, they get millions from using multiple micro transactions to slowly steal from everyone. Pointless now What used to be worth 6000$ is worth 600$ today. It's Not even enough to hire a lawyer. I still want to out of principle, but would actually cost me out of pocket. I just don't make enough to play that game. With Daraprim in particular the insurance companies that didn't want to pay for it just switched to another much cheaper option. There's no reason why any insurance company had to keep using Daraprim and he know most of them would switch. He was basically just milking the insurance companies who didn't care enough to switch after the price increase. If you change insurance $3 and then go to $1000, even if you lose like 95% of your insurance customers, the 5% that weren't paying attention, or didn't bother switching because so few people use the drug anyway end up more than making up the difference and you make more money. People paying out of pocket wouldn't even be a factor, I doubt anybody has ever paid for that drug out of pocket, it's nothing like insulin or epipens which people like to keep bringing up for some reason, I guess just to vent.

I'm facing 25 to life for defending myself against a mad man with a gun in Portland Oregon. Him and his girlfriend jumped me when I asked him not to have her over anymore. His gf was a evil battery in his back. Found out later he beat up his last roommate the same way they attacked me but due to covid police dropped the charges.

The sad thing with Arnold is that prior to his betrayal he has saved the revolution by delaying the British from marching down from Canada for a year. Without that Canada campaign the US would have died in infancy, but then he threw all his honor away

Something people who idolize this guy should understand is: there are almost zero people who will ever love him for *who* he is. He will forever be regarded for *what* he is and *how* he behaves. There will never be a true genuine relationship in his life until it's over. To stroke his ego he sacrificed real connections and no matter how "based" that some how makes you, that is a lonely and miserable existence. If her wasn't such a narcissist I wouldn't be surprised to see him having chosen to end himself in the next 15 years.

Sad thing is, that he is probably honest with women wanting to fuck him as a result of his notoriety. Bundy fathered a child after he was known as a killer for example. "When was Ted Bundy's daughter, Rose, Born? Rose Bundy was born on October 24, 1982. Boone got pregnant while visiting Bundy when he was on death row, according to E! News"

unfortunately some people are so poor that those words are nothing more than text that reminds them they might not even afford a decent funeral. as bad as it is, money talks. now Im not so foolish as too lose that which gives people fuel to live, other people. Though, isnt it ever enticing to grab the gun of the villain and just assume you could do good with it. Cause money makes the world go around, there is very little that money cant buy. Problem is those few things make life worth living. money, the root of all evil. Not cause owning a credit that can get you something is evil. Its the potential, people convincing themselves that materialism is more important than family. Seeing others who are at the top of the world cause of money and not the people who gave them a chance. The people who arent wise enough to see that all the things money can buy can't fix a lonely heart. The chase of money as a method of happiness, is the root of all evil.

That’s any man. Men are not valued in society for who we are. We are only valued for what we do. We are providers, workers, fathers, soldiers, or we are criminals, predators, vagrants. Being considered useful, being depended upon, is the closest that most men will ever come to actually being loved. We are not wanted, we are at best, needed. But always treated as replaceable.

@@kacecrimson8297 "all the things money can buy can't fix a lonely heart" Sure it can lol, money just represents time. If you have a bunch of money you can afford to go out with people, have hobbies, make friends, all that jazz. Working 50 hours a week to get by is what makes people lonely because they don't have time to see their family or loved ones, if they even have time to have such.
