There is no solitary confinement, exceeding the necessary. It's the last measure that is only taken when there are no other options. Prison guards know, that solitary confinement becomes a form of torture over longer durations and it harms the inmate and the educational goals of the institution. And courts persuit torture! So solitary confinement is used in hoemeopathic doses if at all.

Actually it was after he rejected her because of the stigma of magical AIDS (lycantrophy), which makes the fact that the patronus takes Lupin wolfish form even more meaningful. She love him as he is even if he himself does not.

"We don't torture people's minds in prison" ...solitary... seriously after a month hallucinations, audio and or visual. After 3 it's both frequently. A year, incessantly berating you. A few days are nothing but a mild torture. Being forced as people have essentially permanently cripples their mind and we still do this today.

There's a bit in the book _Half-Blood Prince_ that mentions Harry getting in trouble with Snape for arguing with him about the best way to deal with dementors in a Defence Against The Dark Arts class. This makes me wonder if there is another way to handle dementors other than the patronus charm, or is it merely that Snape thinks that focusing on a happy memory isn't the best way?

I feel like it would have been even better if the Patronus mouse became more powerful due to the villagers' combined laughter. Since dementors hate happiness and the Patronus draws power from positive emotion, it would make sense. Plus it makes the story better since the entire village takes part in saving the day. As apposed to a random villager just happening to cast this Hail-Mary spell.

@4:15-4:37 (1) truth serum is a fair point. there may be nuance to the "truth serum exists therefore wrongful convictions cannot happen", but the argument holds water as far as I can see. (2) thoughts do not and cannot confirm or deny guilt of a crime, therefore reading thoughts can only be considered to be a form of testimony, not discovery of facts. (3) extracted memories are canonically known to be able to be altered, either before or during extraction or both, though I do not know if it is canonically possible to alter them after extraction, it is also unclear whether altered memories can be detected to be altered, it would appear that certain altered memories look weird and inconsistent, but we do not know if this was because the specific case was clumcily altered or whether any alteration, regardless of how skillful, would look weird and altered. Also, memories are canonically able to be selectively deleted, even in oneself.
