We used a company that used satellite from space that can see down into the earth layers to locate water underground, it tell you how deep and how much it will produce. They locate and come out and put a spike in the ground and say dig right here. Yep it was 100%, this was 14 years ago, we've since used it on two other parcels of land we own, 100% on the mark!

Don't suppose you could share that specific company's name? I'm considering getting some land out in an equally-dry area to the vid, and would love some recommendations on good folks.

I applaud your efforts on not only buying land and establishing some kind of roots for your future, but drilling for water because water is essential in the desert. However, look around you there's SNOW and consider the RAINFALL the desert gets... CAPTURE THAT AS WELL. Consider a water catchment system, an essential in the desert.

Linnea, as a well driller (in Tennessee), it actually hurts my feeling a bit to hear that you feel that after doing a GPR survey, you still think you're gambling on a well being drilled. If the survey says the water is there, it's a 95% chance IT'S THERE. The other 5% is just how deep it is. In your case I would venture a guess that since you have a creek nearby, the elevation difference between the creek and where you're drilling will be fairly close to the depth of the well + or - 20'... 😁👍

Who would have thought that drilling a well in the desert could be so thrilling and fascinatingly addicting to watch?!?! Your commentary and your real reactions throughout to the stress, hope, despair, gratitude, and finally total joy made this video the gem it is. With all that said, I am thrilled for you that your piece of heaven has water and you will be able to make your dreams a reality. I look forward to watching you build it. I also just wanted to say, that your humanity and kindness shines through on every one of your videos and shorts as well as a joy for life few are lucky to find. I am thankful I found your channel. That’s incredible congratulations ❤ side note… I’d rethink cottonwood trees. They tend to not be hardy. Won’t stand up to wind, are a horrible firewood source and have white cotton all over them in the spring that makes you sneeze and gets all over everything at least here in Oklahoma that’s the case 😊 just my 2 cents. You’ll do amazing whatever you choose to grow and plant.

Research swales.. they will collect any water when it rains in the trench area you dig and you plant trees along the raised part of the swales where you pile the dug up soil.. Also look up swales in Africa, and greening the desert.. this will give you perspective of what you can do in a dry land..
@brianvandy40027 ай бұрын
I don't know where your property is, but where I've been looking you can get water trucked in for 8 cents a gallon. So if you have a 500 gallon water tank (usually to be found for a bout $1k) it's $40 or so to fill it up. Set up rain catchment off any rooves you may have for irrigation so the trucked water is just for human use. When you consider it might cost $20-30,000 for a well going down over 500 feet required to hit the aquifer in the area, you can refil that tank a lot of times. Plus, it takes a lot of electricity to pump water 600' out of the ground.

It’s important to select plants that will thrive in a desert environment, as well as elevation-appropriate plants. It’s a good idea to create swales, detention basins, and install rainwater capture devices in order to lessen the dependence on well water, as our western underground aquifers need to continually recharge.
