Today's solved true crime video is on the murder of Playboy model & playmate of the year, Dorothy Stratten - one of Hugh Hefner's favourite Playboy bunnies. Dorothy was married to Paul Snider, but lived with Hefner at the Playboy mansion in Hollywood, LA as she pursued her dreams of becoming an actress. Along the way she met Peter Bogdanovich who would change the trajectory of her life forever.

How was he problematic if these women literally agreed to the conditions? They were laid out. Before they agreed. I'm just genuinely curious. I'm a woman also. And I don't doubt for a moment these women knew what they were walking into agreeing to be with heff and live in the mansion.

He is controversial in the way that he ran his "empire". Yes, the women in his mansion agreed to live there and were likely aware of many things they'd be asked or expected to do. However, much like a cult, it offered promises and success but it often came at a price of having to say yes to things they were not fully comfortable with. Many of the women who lived in his mansion have shared the strict rules he kept once they were in and certain acts they were required to participate in. While I am unsure how much could be considered nonconsensual or controversial I do believe it should be acknowledged he was profiting off objectifying women. If the woman were fine with that, cool. But if he set up an environment that promised success for every time they said yes, well that's pretty manipulative. The women were constantly shown how being one of "his girls" offered independence, fame, money, etc. if they just said yes to what he asked. Not to mention, once learning that Cosby was accused of his assault crimes and that many instances were at Heifner's mansion, he only stated that it was sad someone would accuse his close friend Cosby of that.

So I have to be mad, pulling my hair, fuming? No, just pointing out a certain direction. And the boy here made the comment seem like age cap is always a problem. That Paul dude was born in 1939, making him 41, but I guess since his age was not mentioned, this age cap was ignored. I know you're just trying to make it seem like you're the morally superior one, but I have a feeling that this child/adult relationship would have been pretty much okay if the mature adult man was 18.

@@Ahdekia you realize that they met in the 70’s right? That was acceptable then. Now it is not but then it was normal. You are looking at it from today’s standard. Like how now women are not to smoke or drink while pregnant. It is dangerous to the baby. It was ok years ago. Again, I don’t agree with it BUT it was normal. Hefner had a good business going and none of those girls HAD to stay if they didn’t want to. Watch the documentary on the mansion, it’s very educational, and yes they were made to follow rules but it’s what made this place so successful. Back then no one saw the shaming as shaming. I believe Hugh loved his ladies (maybe too much) but they were the most protected ladies of this time, whilst on the property only! I’d just go watch that show if I were y’all. I feel like consent is dubious when you put someone's livelihood and shelter on the line if they say no. I know these girls wanted to be there for the modeling opportunities, but finding jobs after being a sex worker is notoriously hard so I feel like these girls probably felt absolutely trapped and forced to have sex with these people who have trapped them in their web. The playboy manor seems like a house of horrors disguise as a man's paradise.

You could make the precise same argument for any marriage. Usually one of the partnership will be the main earner. The other wouldn't be able to afford the upkeep of a house on their own. Consent is given BEFORE the partnership begins with a full understanding of the situation. To claim that a smoking hot blonde woman would have any trouble finding well paying work or a rich partner is ridiculous. Hot women live life on easy mode.

I just learned about this story last week! Really appreciated the in-depth coverage in your video. There are so many layers to this story that would be interesting to unpack-I think particularly about grooming. It’s unsettling that even the guy that seemed like such a better match for Dorothy ends up writing a creepy book and marrying her sister…
@jes7119
@jes7119 2 жыл бұрын
Of course Dorothy couldn't see his red flags. She was a child when they started dating. She was barely an adult when she died. I feel sorry for her, being groomed by three powerful, much older men (Paul, Peter, Heff). I don't care if Heff never slept with her; he had no problem sexualising and conditioning a teenage girl to be a male fantasy. So if he couldn't have her that way, at least another man could. Happy to share with his friends 🤢

Exactly and I hate the people arguing that she was an adult, technically yes, but I as a 21 y/o do not feel like I am an 'adult.' I still make dumb, misinformed decisions and can be manipulated if gaslit enough. All of this happened in a three year time span and I can only imagine how long she thought for each event. We'll never know the true life she lived, but I see her as a naive young lady who was promised so much and was on her way to getting that, however had people with other motives around her.
@jes7119
@jes7119 2 жыл бұрын
@@samanthaM7119 I agree completely. Do people really think a woman changes so much between the ages of 17 and 18? What does that one day of their birthday change? The age of consent has to be somewhere but that doesn't magically equip a person with the skills and experience to navigate life; least of all to navigate toxic and manipulative people. Sadly that comes with experience. We learn slowly, and I'm sure Dorothy would have slowly learned too if she'd had the chance. If people recognised that adolescence really ends around 24 and that full grown men shouldn't be influencing young women, least of all teenagers, then so many situations like this could be avoided. It's funny how young men are defended in situations of naivety or even wrongdoing. Yno, he was young, still learning, didn't know better, taken advantage of. Let the boy make some mistakes! His whole life shouldn't be ruined! But young women are expected to be above it. No, young women are calculating, deceptive, using their bodies to control men, should have known better, etc. The expectations and connotations we place on young women are disgusting and they only serve to excuse men's inappropriate behaviour.

I was one of the youngest girls that worked in a prestigious place and looking back now they used me to ease in other girls around my age at the time, there ended up being 2 of us that where 16. And she was my great buddy for a long time. I ran into her again a few years ago (I hadn't seen her for 20 years), she didn't recognise me, and I didn't say anything. Her life wasn't great by a long shot but she was doing the best she could. And she still kept her looks and beautiful heart. You seem to find that, that people that go through a shit load when their young have beautiful souls. I think having the inner strength to get through what we did makes us pretty special people. And beautiful hearts will always have beautiful faces, maybe we look broken when wer hurt but once wer strong again we shine! Miss you sky... Hope the last 2 years have been good to you... I know she'll never see this.. But I wanted to say something to her. Peace Love and Prosperity to all ✨💖

This obviously millennial feminist very unprofessional narrator's screechy high pitched voice in that grating millennial feminist accent is just so irritating. I wanted to hear this full story but the combination of her annoying voice and the obviously millennial feminist bias just make it to grating to continue listening to the end. Can we please have a PROFESSIONAL , OBJECTIVE, NOT SO IRRITATING NARRATOR TO JUST HIVE US THE OBJECTIVE FACTS, MINUS ALL YOUR MILLENNI AL FEMINIST BULLSHIT? II don't mind if it's a male or female narrator, but not crap like this, please....This is just such a badly made documentary on a topic that could have been interesting and worth watching, had it been done professionally, not this very second rate garbage. Do you seriously expect any intelligent woman to watch this and take you seriously? Come on now. Oh, and by the way, I am a very independent emancipated woman, though I would never identify as a feminist. Just intelligent and critical of certain, but not ALL manifestations of feminist ideaology eg crap lije this typically trotted out by millennial feminists. My rating for this video? 1 out of 10. In other words, crap.

@@piersnivans5983, she was a bunny. Hugh Hefner sent her a card in which he grouped her in with the rest of his bunnies, and when I said exactly that,, she explained what made her a bunny in a way that makes perfect sense. I've forgotten how she said because my injured brain screws with my memories, but she proved her bunniness beyond a reasonable doubt.

I ordered Function of Beauty (in June 2021) because of watching your videos previous true crime vids and always seeing your hair so healthy & lovely... so I finally ordered through your link, got the discount (Thank you!) I set up for every 6 months and it has been truly wonderful! I have sensitive sinus allergies and it's hard to find products that are lightly scented but work specifically for hair needs. This company is legit. I'm 47 and happy to pay the price charged. It's almost the same as ordering the high quality products hair salons charge, except this is formulated for my needs! I just adore you & your content (including your "rants" or personal opinions) & continue to watch your vids. I just wanted to let you & others know that I'm just a regular person living in Florida, USA, not getting paid to review Function of Beauty. Now, next to try are your indestructible phone cases!!
