If Mrs. Hall's motive was preserving her reputation, placing love letters next to the bodies doesn't sound like a good move. I do think she was (directly or indirectly) responsible for the crime, but it sounds more like a crime born out of jealousy and spite. Cutting Eleanor's throat and tongue kinda looks like whoever the perpetrator was, they wanted to symbolically remove her singing talent from her - even after death.

No, not really, because it was about humiliating and condemning them in front of the entire community. See? See what they were! You thought he was a pious man and she a good wife and mother, but this is what they were up to the entire time! Now rally round and feel sorry for me and condemn them...The cheating scoundrels who got what they deserved! Now THAT'S how people minds work. So many cases of religious people fearing community scorn for a divorce, so they murder their spouse! In one case, the bf bludgeoned the girlfriend's husband in the bed next to her. Who would suspect her? Now these two people have never consummated their relationship before and after the murder, never got together. The entire murder was motivated by the fact that they loved each other and she was married. They moved away from that community, ended up marrying others and getting on with their lives for a couple of decades. I can't remember how the case got reopened, but a murder case can always be prosecuted. The cops showed up at her door and showed up at the guys door. The guy was a respected member of the community, he was married, had children. He didn't look anything like anyone who would have done such a thing but he ended up confessing. The woman didn't seem all that surprised when the cops showed up and almost, basically, gave herself away like she was waiting all those years for them to show up. I can't remember what the convictions were. R wife had stood my the husband and still couldn't believe he'd done it even after he admitted it in open court. Yeah, but these two very religious people were more concerned about the prospect of a divorce or the scandal of an affair, but had no problem bludgeoning to death that poor woman's husband. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Now THAT'S people for you. Don't try to apply LOGIC! Ask any homicide detective!

Nice catch on the jurisdictional conflict on the murder site. New Brunswick, indeed, contains both the church and Lord Stirling School and is in Middlesex County. Both parties were living and working in N.B. I drove to the murder road on time and it has populated another since 1922. I went sometime between 2010-2022. This tale is part of local lore.

If Mrs Hall had them killed to protect her reputation from her husband's affair, staging the bodies together to call attention to the affair as a motive makes no sense. Again: Belief in god stops nobody from committing adultery. Members of religious institutions seem particularly vulnerable to the temptation to stray from their vows, probably because the veneer of being a good and devout person allows the parties to consider that they have access to a more devout, and better person than they currently have. "He/she really understands me," etc. I've seen this with my own eyes. The religious have no special access to - or power derived from - their beliefs or their deities. Human nature always wins, unless the person is particularly self-aware and has unusual self-control. This goes for the desire to murder for revenge or out of jealousy.

You're right. I watch a ton of true crime and as soon as I hear "devout", "religious", or "faith". I believe the reason is because a Loving God wanted to make creations that would look to Him and love Him in return. This whole existence is a video game to meet the Maker and appreciate his work. So often people in music ministry end up involved in adultery scandals! Churches need strict standards about male ministers and staff being alone with women, unless she is elderly. I think adultery by religious workers should be a crime, as it violates community trust. Too often predators gravitate to churches. They need to be punished even if the victims are adults. If the religious worker wants to have affairs, they must renounce their ordination and employment by any house of worship or religious educational institutions, as well as any work with vulnerable people. Probably the minister's wife paid someone to kill the offending couple or her brothers did it.

Hello, BC. Your narratives help me "travel in time," a welcome escape from the noise of our reality. Thank you. I wonder whether this crime will ever be resolved? It see that we are dealing with limited number of suspects. Of course, they are all deceased now, but I hope the authorities will reopen the case. Thank you, BC. Have a great week:).

I grew up in New Brunswick, NJ. Ironically my paternal line's name is Hall but we are of a mixed background. The church where Rev. Hall is still active, his old home still on Carmen St. The area where they were found is broken up with some having homes on it. Rutgers Law School tried this case and there was no conclusion. There are also virtual murder mysteries held by the NB Public Library. Maybe one day it will be solved since it happened over 100 years ago.

Oooh, such a good, mysterious case and your voice is always so perfect for relating these crimes from a bygone era, BC💼 No doubt someone wanted to punish them for adultry.. but who got Eleanor's tongue? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think the true perpetrators got away with murder..

Imagine how many old time cases had evidence that went missing because of people contaminating the crime scene. Like someone out there could have the missing piece to solving a case in grandma’s attic or something. And on top of that whatever evidence was left has been lost in the custody of police.

@@BriefCaseOfficial Thank you for asking. It is so far. But we are implementing a new way to make our IV solutions on Tuesday.
