It may be that GRRM has decided against this theory, and is struggling to find a different ending to the story that fits the themes of duty vs. desire, character perspective and identity, and the power of sacrifice. The World of Ice and Fire seems to deliberately provoke the A+J=T theory, almost as if to test avid fans’ interest. As a television writer, GRRM would be no stranger to testing ideas on focus groups and then making changes. HOTD establishes that the Targs were motivated by prophecy, and Dunk and Egg could end with Summerhall to explain details of sacrificial magic so that there is meaning to being a secret Targ raised by a foster father who sacrificed their dignity. The Tyrion theory is cheesy, but GRRM has also stated that Tyrion’s introduction in AGOT was regretfully cheesy. Tyrion’s intro includes him questioning whether Tywin is his actual father and ends with literal foreshadowing of Tyrion as a king. Tywin as a sympathetic character fits the idea that nobody is purely good or evil. We’re made to view Tywin as a bad guy and Ned Stark as a good guy, but we’ve never seen Tywin’s perspective. Every POV character in the story hates Tywin, but in AFFC Genna Frey/Lannister shows a touch of sympathy by portraying Tywin as a victim of circumstance. He was forced to be cruelly dutiful to protect innocents from the desires of powerful people like his father. Depending on details, I could see myself feeling sorry for the guy getting murdered on the toilet by Tyrion. Tywin-Tyrion would mirror Ned-Jon. I’m not rooting for Tyrion Targ to be true, I’m just rooting for the books to come out lol… can we appreciate the irony that this being a laughable idea confirms the challenge GRRM would have with it?

TLDR - I’m speculating that GRRM intended Tyrion Targaryen as the ultimate plot twist, but he accidentally made fans (including myself) love the Tyrion-Tywin dynamic as is, and now he’s stuck figuring out how to end the story… which is a very funny situation
