@@TheRealRichardWong I bought the twin lens kit from Japan so I have the 20-60 and 50 1.8, but my most used focal length is the 85 and I’m getting good results with the canon one, I also adapted the crop sigma 30mm 1.4 art and pretty much have full frame coverage with just slight vignetting

I also had a chance to use it and was nervous about the aperture range but MAN! This lens is so much more then the aperture makes you think. It’s hella fun to use and the aperture never got in the way. I think your review is spot on bro. Thanks for making this 🙌🏼

If we were working with a crop sensor then it may have been a bit of an issue, but since it's full frame, includes O.I.S and of course, amazing dual native ISO for video shooters, it genuinely hits the mark on so many levels! I'm legit super excited about this lens! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it dude :)

Love the versatility. I’ve usually got the Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 parked on my S5ii but this focal range plus reduced size…perfect for throwing it in a bag and taking on vacations.

@@castielvargastv7931I think they are more concerned about having a do it all usable zoom range which can go wide and also zoom. The 24-105 is more probably the only alternative ,compared to say a 70-200 which may not be wide enough.

I use the S5 for work, mainly with primes or the 24-105mm, but until now I still use my G9 for travel with the 14-140mm, which is an amazing lens, and hard to beat for flexibility, size and weight. This might be the lens that means I can ditch the G9 altogether - can’t wait to test it out.

Lumix are prioritising size and portability, and I think its's a refreshing stance to have. Bringing a camera with you everywhere can sometimes be a bit cumbersome, but pairing this with the S5II makes an extremely capable package that won't break your back!

This is more exiting then the spec list suggests, and your reaction reflects that! I had the Olympus 12-100mm pro and this lens reminds me of it. Combined weight of lens and body is similar when paired (em1iii 12-100mm and s5ii 28-200mm) Very temped to switch systems because of this release

It depends what you want from a lens. For me, the 28-105 f4 is a better lens for daily use, because its OiS and constant aperture. Yes, its bigger, but not so that it becomes a problem. This new lens is more like a good hiking lens for daylight use. For everything else not so much.

Great lens and looks as useful as my 14-140 on my Lumix G8, which is my travel/holiday camera at the moment, but that could change if I got this for my S5 II. Love the videos and great choice of watch too... I'm also a big Christopher Ward fan 😃

I love zoomlenses with crazy reach and this one seems to fit the bill. Still think the 24-105 is in a different league with the constant F4. The 28-200 is a great outdoor lens, for sure.

Wish this lens existed a few months back when I went out to Sri Lanka; I took the 24-105mm with me but this would have been just that bit nicer for some of the wildlife shots; great to see Lumix growing the lens lineup, hopefully I'll have another reason to consider this lens soon.

This is fantastic news! Considering that you're getting nearly 8x zoom in this lens, the price seems very reasonable to me. If I owned it, it would make choosing between my 24-105mm f/4 and this very difficult.

Beautiful video footage. You made me confident that despite it's low aperture it can deliever stunning results nonetheless, particularly in low-light shooting. You shot at night with a 7.1 aperture you mad-man, you'll have the reddit people practically foaming at their mouths for that! Thanks for this

Hahaha! It's doable - I think people get too hung up on Aperture to be honest. If you want blurry backgrounds then of course it has a massive role to play, but if it's just a case of balancing light, then these modern cameras can truly surprise you with their higher ISO performance :) Thanks for watching !

Great review Josh. The variable aperture on all the Lumix L mount zooms makes them unlovable for video. Good value for money though, if that doesn't matter.

OIS and the size makes it a very nice option. I have a Nikon F mount 28-300 but that thing on a dSLR is huge. I would have liked to see it more like f4-f5.6 but I guess keeping that small casing does give them some pretty strict constraints. I'll definitely be waiting for it to be used though... $1000 is too much.

I do get that with the compression f7.1 doesn’t feel like f7.1… but I’ve never been a fan of variable aperture lenses. I’d rather not be limited. Though for the price, you’re right, it’s fair. I’d happily pay more so I’ll just keep saving for the 70-200 I guess 😅🫠🫠 great video though Josh!

I've owned superzooms in the past, and didn't find myself using them for photography as much as I thought. However for video this is closer to camcorder lens range, which still has a use, with far better high ISO performance. Max aperture is always a compromise. Make it brighter and no one will use it as a carry round lens.

I can see two lenses being in my 'take most of the time kit'. The 14-28 (which I already own) and this new 28-200. You can cover a great range with those two which is probably one reason why this new lens starts at 28 for crossover (and of course you can cover from 21-300 in APS-C mode with those two lenses). The only other lens I'd probably want is a prime like the 50mm 1.8 just in case I need some extra bokeh on certain subjects like a portrait shot or an interview set up.

This is definitely the idea I had too! Those two lenses will cover pretty much everything you could ever need in terms of focal range, and both being as compact as they are, it really wouldn't be hassle to keep them both in the bag at all times :)

@@JoshCameron absolutely. These two lenses cover everything in a broad term and you can get a few other lenses that you need for specialised needs over these. Yes they aren't super fast lenses or have a constant aperture of even F4 but then if they were the price point would make them unattainable for most people (which isn't what Panasonic is aiming for) and the quality of them is still very good for most professional work (certainly for anyone shopping for an S5II). This is certainly a lens I will be looking at getting.

Amazing lens. Now, for this use i think gh6+ oly 12-100 f4 is better, add a small laowa 7.5 or 10mm and the kit is perfect. The reason is that if you need that kind of lens, you are on the move, shooting handheld, probably a lot of movement.... And mft sensors have less rolling shutter.

If the 20-60 had a baby with the 70-300 😂 The lens looks absolutely perfect for travel! Lumix look to be making some really good versatile lenses for the full frame system. This is somewhat close to the Lumix 14-140mm MFT which is one of the most versatile lenses for that sensor.

The aperture could definitely have been a bit smaller, but I guess with the constraints of the size I can kind of understand. it also doesn’t kill the 70 to 200 which is something I was considering. If it had been a lower aperture, I might’ve skipped on the 70-200 but now I might have to get both 😂🙈

This lens is really making me question my recent G9ii purchase. The 14-140 is my most used m4/3 lens. I would have been tempted to get an S5ii and 28-200 instead. Throw in a couple of the f1.8 primes for a lightweight and capable kit. The OCD me really likes the constant look of the recent S lenses, and the same filter size would be so convenient.

The aperture 7.1 and the missing zoom-lock is just keeping out of buying this lens. Like to go hiking and want to bring a nice zoom but hanging my camera on my backpack strap will have the lens fully extended all the time. And 4.0 isn’t gonna cut it for star photography

The Lumix S 20-60mm will be a better choice for many people. Getting that extra wide end is essential for interiors. Whereas one can simply crop to get more apparent magnification. And it's one-third the price. And a bit faster. Still, this lens was designed for a purpose and I am glad Panasonic gives people more choice. Can't understand all the naysayers in the comments who wish this was a different lens entirely. What is packed into this package is quite amazing.

What would you recommend instead for a single travel/content creator lens? I have 20-60, 50mm and a Tamron 90mm macro. I find it too time consuming to switch lenses on vacations. I also feel like I’m lacking depth of field in the 20-35mm focal length. I’m thinking sigma 16-28mm. But then I’m missing a good 35mm option. Also with the 1.5x crop in video I always find I’m shooting around the 50mm focal length unintentionally 🤔

I beg to differ. Convenience comes at a price and image quality _will_ take a hit. There is no getting around it. But I love my 20-60 which is on my S1 most of the time. When I need extra reach I take my Canon 70-200 f4 IS with me. Together they are a killer combo.

HI, JOSH .. love from Bangladesh...like the works of yours.. but I need a help I got an issue with my Panasonic S5 IIx. Brought it from Japan in november 2023. When I take a picture it turns out completely pitch black i tried every format like raw and jpeg also changed everything including iso ,shutter speed and exposure . also try it with card format and camera reset. But there is no hope. but there is no issue with the video, it is working fine as it was. I live in Bangladesh . There is no lumix support center. so i don't have any idea what to do...

the sony rx10iv has better image quality than full frame cameras with approx 24-200mm zoom lens attached. has this lens managed to break that barrier and actually bring increased image quality?

Love your videos, well done as always...but am I the only one disappointed with this announcement? Tamron showed what can be done with a 28-200: fast(ish) with stellar IQ. I guess I was thinking they'd do something to match that. Maybe I was wrong to think that, but I know plenty of people who moved to Sony specifically because of the Tamron 28-200 which could literally be the only lens you need. This isn't even close in my opinion. No one is switching systems for 4-7.1. I'd give up 3/4 of an inch of compactness for something that's usable indoors. Not to mention this is more expensive than the Tamron! Big miss in my book.

Make it a 24-200mm f/4 (constant) and regardless of how huge and expensive it would be, it will fly off the shelves. Also, Lumix needs to match Sony with a 20-70 f/4, and maybe phase out the 20-60mm.

Yeah, this is a lovely travel lens, but bit of a downer.. I was hoping for something similar to Tamron 28-200 f/2.8-5.6 which is also reasonably light and faster at both ends. Lumix needs to get some lenses that are extraordinary, and improved from the lenses we've seen in the past. This Lumix 28-200 seems a decent enough travel lens, but not much more than that
