Don Solo Maybe have it so that if they play a Thursday night game, their next game is on Monday or if they’re he other team they’re on a bye the next week.

Blah Blah If it’s the first game of the season they’ll be rested enough to go by week 2 so they shouldn’t need a bye. Same goes for week 2. And if this occurs in the season with 2 byes, they can have an early one and a later one.

The Sportier how about 2 pre season games, 2 bi weeks including a week off following Christmas (obviously NFL is big Christmas weekend) and would give teams a week with family, and to be ready for their final week of the season. Would help a lot of players show for their final game which could be the biggest of the year. And would give the fans football expanded a week longer and keeps fans happy.

There's a few cases where that idea might not work so well, but I actually like this idea. This is how I would break it down. I have also attempted to nickname some of these games for shits and gigs. Feel free to finish the others off. The New Yorker - Giants vs Jets Battle for LA - Rams vs Chargers The Desert Derby - Cards vs Raiders The Lone Star Derby - Texans vs Cowboys The Snow Bowl - Bills vs Packers The Big Cat - Bengals vs Panthers Gold & Cold - Broncos vs Niners The Coast Bowl - Patriots vs Seahawks Ravens vs Redskins Dolphins vs Bucs Jags vs Saints Steelers vs Eagles Colts vs Bears Lions vs Browns Chiefs vs Vikings Titans vs Falcons Most of these make sense apart from the absolute anomaly that is the Patriots vs Seahawks game. Feel free to make any adjustments as well.

1 preseason game. 20 weeks. 2 bye weeks. 18 games because 17 is odd and weird. 14 or 16 playoff teams to prove anybody can win a game if given the chance. Everyone gets a bye week before the playoffs. The top 2 teams in each conference get 2 weeks off before their divisional playoff game. Could be crazy

I would like fewer games. The Eagles played a NFL playoff game with the announcers commenting "you have to check the rosters to remember who these backups are". I want to see the best players still healthy for meaningful football.

Pat you are so 1000% right on this. I’ve thought the same thing about how insane the way the and nflpa treat each other. No other business gets done with the mindset that were going to get everything we want and give up nothing - even if it’s something we don’t care about a - just because we don’t want to “lose” on a point. Also I think your 17 game with 2 byes is perfect.

KomodoDojo Clay Travis has the idea of a regional game, so they play at a neutral field somewhere in the middle of them where people who can’t normally go to games get to go to one.

Two Monday night games every week. First game always Eastern or Central home games, second game Mountain or Western home games, and get rid of the Thursday night.

Just lower the preseason to one tryout game with the practice squad and special teams players, bump the regular season up to 18 games. 6 division games, 12 conference games, 2 bye weeks + a bye week before playoffs, and expand the playoffs to the top 8 conference teams. Then we could all hear a 9-9 Cowboys fan talk about "yeah, but if we'd have played the Dolphins or the Jets we wouldn't be an 8 seed."

17 games, 2 bye weeks, and increase roster size to 55 total and 48 on game day. That'll give teams the ability to keep an extra lineman or two if they want. After that it's just about getting the money right so players don't lose ground.

Little Fact Check Pat. The Green Bay Packers President said during the offseason Owners meeting (several years ago)( the Packers are a Public team and therefore have no Owner( for those who did not know that )) that the season should be 17 weeks here was his break out 8 home 8 away 1 international game( London Mexico Canada etc) this way we get more games and the press from the international stage grows. I feel that how it should be done this way there is a fair and equal balance and not 16 teams getting more home games then the other 16 teams

The BYE week is the most important thing here...even if they didnt add another game, they still need more BYE weeks. One isn't enough. Bye weeks should also coincide with Thursday games.

A 17 week season is a good compromise for the owners and players. Playing all games at Noon local time on Sunday makes sense for the fans. So go with 17 weeks, but no more Sunday Night, Monday Night, or Thursday Night football. And if they want to play in London, the game starts at the home team city's Noon. That's 7pm GMT for West Coast teams.

I've always said if they want to add more games then just remove them from the pre-season. Seems pretty logical, removing 2 and then adding a second bye week and one game totally makes sense.

I have been saying this for over 10 years now , eliminate 2 preseason games ( nobody cares about these games anyway )and add 2 regular season games. Then make 2 weeks in the middle of the season a bye week . So 16 teams play one week and 16 teams play each other the following week. No more of getting a bye week in week 5 instead all teams get a bye week in weeks 9 and 10. Also STOP playing in London!

I'm all for the idea of 17 or 18 games but have to make the roster at least 60 man roster and add the extra bye week and pay the players for the extra time of course but also should extend the trade deadline in my opinion and could make the preseason games 12min Quarters to lower the risk of injury and fatigue on players body's even tho it's only 3 mins less time it does save the players on the physical side of not getting roughed up little less time.

It's not the owners are "savage" it's that the players literally can't bring themselves save 20% of their salary so when the strike comes they cannot miss checks. If the players could go even six weeks they'd get a lot more.

Thank you Pat. Very good discussion. I can see you as a U.S Senator as you understand both sides, but you a decent man. Compromise. The owners need the players, & the players need the owners. I say, leave it as it is, 16 games. I can only imagine how tough it is. Thanks again. Deflagate , I thought was a bunch of noise. Just the NFL saying they've got a bigger one. And I was rooting for Colts. Ken Brett could hit a lick. No wonder he was a pinch hitter. His brother George wasnt too shabby either.

Have 18 games but only allow players to play a max of 16 games. You would have to strategically plug in your backups and practice squad players and your backup QB would have to break a sweat too at least twice. Lots of starters miss a game or two with injuries anyway.

Hockey makes football look like a Pee-wee sport. I’m not even a Hockey fan. They play all those games, fuck’n trash each other. Meanwhile, The average amount of actual action in an NFL game has been calculated to be between 11 and 15 minutes. NFL player will play like 170-230 minutes every regular season... Meanwhile hockey players play around 3,280-4,123 hours a regular season...

ZP Bets not disagreeing just saying. Size arguments don’t work as shaq played with small guards. Offensive guards play with corners. Phillip rivers and rajon rondo have played in torn ACLs. Rondo even went to OT on it
