It's a snowball effect, because now you feel like you didn't live your teenage years, and you need to live that stage, so you will be trying to be teenager at 30. I'm in this exact situation... I literally feel like going back to highschool and do it the right way, I'm stuck in this nostalgic depression where I listen to music I use to listen to as a teen and cry, trying to recreate the same sensations and feelings I had back then. My existence has been a waste, and the worse thing is that I had it all to thrive--- middle class, private school, decent looking... which makes me feel even worse bc I wasted it all

Will this affect my recovery? Will my brain return to the way it was at the time of the addiction? I have been suffering from erectile dysfunction caused by watching porn, will masturbation affect my recovery? How many days do I need to recover from porn-induced erectile dysfunction? Some thoughts on people having a hard time trying to find a date while leaving porn/sexual addiction behind: A difficulty in the discussion of "modern coupling" is that for adults outside of college, or a conventional job(retail/food service/etc), seeing other adults that one knows regularly(like one would in going to school) who are also single, who are like minded, is quite tough. If one works from home, orders clothes from, etc, this becomes doubly challenging. An agitation that can drive people to the screen, is the frustration of not knowing where to find fellow singles in a comfortable, inviting environment, where at the very, very, least there is an opportunity to talk to one another to see if there is a genuine emotional, sexual, connection to be had and explored in a healthy way. Talking to strangers is seen more now as rude, or nuisance, meet up groups don't want people trying to get dates in the group, online dating has a host problems in its user base and basic functionality. So even if one is working on themselves, following their path, these real world difficulties keep people at such a physical and emotional distance, with not many practical solutions. Which may cause the fear of a sexless existence they didn't ask for, but has been forced upon them, so they turn to the screen which seemingly won't reject/ignore them, it just distracts them while it harms them. That said, I understand this channel is focused on neuroscience solutions to the causes of pornography addiction and it the real damages it inflicts, and it is unfair to ask Dr. Leigh to solve, much less account for, all the dating problems under the Sun(though how cool would that be?!). I just wanted to bring forth this important element in the difficulties for adults in finding opportunities to even get a date, much less get into a relationship. That when people say "can't find a date" it's not always because of the bad habits they have cultivated but it can also be because they are improving themselves, applying genuine effort, because of reasons out of their control, nothing is working. There's alot of very lonely, anxious, emotionally unwell, people out in the world, using many unhealthy means, with unhealthy mind sets, to cope with their situations. Alot of them are scared, don't want to be hurt, want to love and be loved, even if they don't have the words to think or articulate it. thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. There's fruit salad on the way out.
@DrTrishLeigh

First of all… I love this Ted talk… I appreciate this, and it’s totally true. It’s difficult to sell the issues of intimacy and connection in a world of isolation. What I promote is good old-fashioned joint things… venture out into the world to find like-minded people. It is not easy but it’s worth it. And who doesn’t love free food. 🍉🍓🙅‍♀️❤️‍🩹

Someone in chat mentioned what if your partner isn't available but still need a "release"? As a woman, the last thing I want to feel like is a man's "release". How about exercising, taking a cool shower, going for a long walk, playing basketball or something. I really think that term devalues the act of sex.
@tomsl7111
@tomsl7111 2 жыл бұрын
It isn't about you, it's about what is going on within a man who's got these questions as he moves forward in this process of leaving porn behind. I've also wondered that many times... This is a good site to bring up this uncomfortable question, which for a guy is perfectly legit. Does he have to ask for your permission? If society, in general, already looks down on men going through this and it's shameful to overtly say it in public, then when can we speak up? As to the "release" issue, you have to understand that men and women are wired differently; us men are polygamous and, like it or not, that is why pornography is so appealing to us, because it basically offers unlimited access to unlimited sexuality (being, obviously, the unhealthy way to express it). But don't panic, masturbation without porn and simply appealing to our imagination (which is the natural way) also counts as a "release", and yes, doing other stuff like what you mentioned above is precisely what we default to in order to rewire our brains. Please, don't make out of that question an insult and try to put yourself on our shoes, even though it's only once. This is a site where it's spoken about explicit issues: no more and no less than masturbation, pornography, sex and even trauma. Get real.

Trish, this why I have real distaste for my cousin Barb. When I start seeing someone, eventually it will reach the point where they want to see "that thing". If this doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense. But it will always reach the point where they will want to see something. I can say, well, I've got this instead or I can say "well, I just don't have that". Then if they decide it's not enough or choose to walk away, well, that's life. What would be completely detestable is to act like I had that thing when I know I didn't, or to somehow make it the other's person fault for asking. Like they were too stupid to ask the right questions. And being a man or woman makes no difference. That is unforgivable, at least right now. Nothing wrong with having a deficiency if you're willing to recognize it and not make it other people's fault. I'm not sure there was ever a time that I didn't know I was going to have to face when people wanted that thing from me or at least become very good at explaining it. Anything less I just couldn't accept, who would I be to myself? Love John.

I just turned 59. Porn and Masturbation have robbed me of everything! I started masturbating around the age of 4 or 5 long before actually viewing porn. How can this be? This is the only life I've ever known. No one can even begin to understand or care. I just can't go on like this. Please help me to make some sense of all this

Hi there! thank you so much for your channel. I'm on Day 7 now of the 30 day rewire program and I love it! I have one question: What about watching porn every once in a while? Like once a month or so? Because in the past porn has really inspired me to do awesome things with girls in real life and to be honest it taught some beautiful things too. I had girls with whom I recorded my own porn for private use and we both really liked it. So a part of me doesn't want to completely cut it out in life because of those reasons. I guess it just has to be a healthy ratio?

Hello, Dr. Trish. My name is Daniel. I am 19 years old. I want to ask you. I have a 12-year-old brother, can he use a Muse bandage? I think it will help him a lot in terms of brain calibration for the average beta frequency. That 12, that 19-year-old guys, have quite bad control over emotions. I wouldn't care about such a bandage myself. It's a much more useful investment than buying chocolate in which a huge amount of sugar that will do harm than good I want to thank you Dr. Trish. You're a very smart woman. Moreover, you tell such useful things. I have never seen anyone before who would have so competently and clearly laid out this CATASTROPHE on the shelves I want to share my story with you. If you don't mind, can I write to you somewhere? I WILL BE VERY GLAD IF YOU ANSWER ME DR. TRISH!!!!!!!👋😁👍

While I think using “woke” for a metaphor is a very good idea I also recommend you reference the move the matrix or if you haven’t heard about it watch some clips. In short terms it is about a man who chooses between two pills with the red pill freeing him from the enslaving control of the machine-generated dream world and allow him to escape into the real world, but living the "truth of reality" is harsher and more difficult but he has total freedom to control his life for the better. On the other hand, the blue pill represents a beautiful prison-it would lead him back to ignorance, living in confined comfort without want or fear within the simulated reality of the Matrix. The man chooses the red pill and joins the rebellion. So I recommend you tell this to your audience “shall it be the red or the blue pill?” I would also like to thank you for helping me on my path to exiting my nightmare of porn addiction. As a teenager it may be one of the hardest journeys in my life but it is one I must forego in order to control my life and relationships. Having a plan is truly a MUST and it is beneficial I think the most for teens that are really struggling to use the time they have, especially in the summer as a pivot in their life that they can anchor themselves to and then shoot forward and achieve their dreams and have success. Whether it be Hobbies, exercise, Social events, volunteering, work, a schedule, etc it is 100 percent necessary to overcome it. So, I can not thank you enough for all the things you are doing for young men and women of all ages, so thank you eternally and God Bless.

I'm not sure if you're against porn in total or you are just trying to help people who have abused it as a recreational outlet.

I have been fighting this addiction for years. Been sober and relasped multiple times. Today i took the stand not only to delete triggers like tik tok and instagram. I also put blockers on all my devices that will not allow me to access and adult content or social media. That was my biggest trigger. The mindless scrolling and seeing something temtping to go peek. I take my life back today and you can to. Im 39 years old and had to go to my doctor today to get ed medicine... smh.. im taking my life back.

Porn is exactly that a nightmare . I used to think porn was my friend and it wasn’t, it dumps all of ur dopamine and turns u into a zombie simp. I’ve only been roughly 2 weeks without it and my life is much better now.
