Some fun facts about futurelight (i am a north face employee): -north face had to get a new lab to test the fabric because it was so much more waterproof than anything they’ve made before, even in the new lab that is used to test fire fighting equipment, it was able to withstand an hour of water exposure (230 gallons of water) -the goal is not to compare it to goretex, it is a new north face technology designed to push limits and be disruptive innovation, not to compete with goretex because realistically it is very different -it is VERY breathable and is very good for activity, everything they say in the promo videos is true, it breathes as hard as you do

This fabric is an embarrassment to 2019. It wets out in 20 minutes of a light mist. I'm talking fully saturated, weighing you down. Meanwhile my running shorts, exposed to the same mist, were still nearly dry. The North Face won't let me return it for a refund. This fabric steps back decades in technology.

Dawn S You didn’t read my comment... I don’t care about winter. It’s not even close to waterproof. It soaks through nearly instantly. I have t-shirts that are more waterproof. TNF should be embarrassed to have released this.

I can’t even wear it for casual use in a light rain. It. Doesn’t. Work. It’s a glorified windbreaker at best.

Does anyone know where the Futurelight fabric is manufactured? I read somewhere that it is made near Seoul, Korea. Does anyone have more specific information regarding the mills Company Name?

Looks great ...any word yet on the actual waterproof stats for futurelight? The MVT ratings are certainly spectacular and while there’s general anecdotal reference to waterproofness some actual figures from TNF would be nice considering it’s now on the market.

Hallo , can someone tell me what will happen to 800pro down after first wash ? Because in description says will stay warm even when is wet. And that's is the difference between Normal fill and profill...

Did you guys have to wear anything warm underneath the L5 Summit jackets during your climbs? How warm do you think they would be for non sports use?
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
hiya. The jacket is twice as breathable as most waterproofs, so if you aren't moving around much, you may well need to layer up to stay warm!

I’m looking to get both the L3 down hoodie and the L5 jacket. Would you recommend getting both in the same size or sizing up on the L5
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, thanks for your message. The L5 jacket has a pretty generous fit so we think the L3 down hoodie would fit under at the same size. The L5 LT (light) jacket is a more regular fit so you may need to size up for that one.

At what - Celsius degree it holds ... Because I'm living in Russia Siberian region... Region has roughly -5 to -90 extremely cold... ... Do you have any jackets it holds those colds in my country....
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. The FutureLight is a hard shell jacket designed to work with other warm layers to provide weather protection. On its own it won't cope with very cold temperatures and as it's very breathable it may feel colder than other similar jackets when you are not moving. The warmest waterproof jacket we sell is the Rab Resolution, which is a down filled jacket with a waterproof outer. Sorry we don't have a temperature rating for it, but you can have a look here: www.outside.co.uk/mens-clothing/mens-jackets/mens-down-jackets/rab-resolution-down-jacket.html

Is this enough of an upgrade (from GoreTex/GoreTex Pro) to warrant the $?
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Timothy, well that all depends on how many $ you want to spend! If you're in the market for a new waterproof it is a premium jacket for sure, but it's not the most expensive option, and it is more breathable than GTX.
@dawnzb4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the amount of activity you do. If you are just planning on wearing a rain coat occasionally to walk from your car to buildings, probably don’t need to upgrade. If you plan on hiking a lot in the jacket/climbing mountains/lots of activity, this is a great jacket and very worth it. (I am a north face employee)
@forbes6463 жыл бұрын
@@dawnzb how does it do for the cold? I want to use it as a winter jacket in the city. I know it's not meant to be a Parka or anything, but since it's windproof I figured I'd be okay as long as I get a good fit
@UrwahK4 жыл бұрын
How does it compare to GoreTex though?
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
Well it's a lot more breathable than GTX and the fabric is really supple and feels great. It's hard to speak to durability until it's been on the market for a few years, but we've given it a thorough test out in the wet and it's worked great.

Can this beat Arcteryx Gore Tex jackets ?
@canmtb46764 жыл бұрын
Glenn Johnson : ya, i know that the goretex has been one of suppliers to NF. Well, as for the W.L. Gore and Associates’ business impact, its division of ski / outdoor products only accounts less than 10% of its overall business revenues even if NF decides to drop all goretex from their product lines.
@18casco274 жыл бұрын
Is it better than Gore-tex?
@OutsideHathersage4 жыл бұрын
Hiya. Depends on what's important to you! It's lighter, feels great to the touch, it's twice as breathable and it's recycled. It's also new so we can't yet speak to durability, but James gives it a good test in all the situations you can see in the video.
@MtKenya-qq3jv4 жыл бұрын
It is not necessarily lighter, but the fabric itself is not that rigid as GoreTex Pro [GTP]. Here are the weights for the shells I have : Arcteryx Alpha SV [GTP 2015?, size L] : 522 gr. TNF L5 Summit Series [Futurelight 2019, size M] : 658 gr. TNF Summit Series [Windstopper 2009?, size L] : 694 gr. Years with question mark, I am not sure exactly it.

They pay you to saying that or really think that. My experience of The North Face Torre Eggerw jacket is horrible. I wear it day after i bought the jacket and i went to mall and my shirt was wet from inside like a crazy. I never had similar experience with goretex
@OutsideHathersage29 күн бұрын
No one pays us to say anything in our videos. This video is now yesrs old. When these first came out there were some issues with the membrane. Our trail jackets did perform well, some others didn't. TNF promise all issues are resolved.
